What's Inside the CXX8.4

The cone is Kevlar — low mass, high stiffness, and moisture resistance for an 8-inch driver running at 200W RMS. A stiff Kevlar cone maintains its shape at high excursion, reducing distortion at the output levels this driver is rated for, with dimensional stability across the full range of operating temperatures in a motorcycle environment. On the road: the system stays clean and controlled at high output rather than compressing and hardening as power increases.

The N45H neodymium motor drives a 2.0-inch copper voice coil — sized to handle the thermal demands of 200W RMS and the control requirements of an 8-inch cone at high excursion. N45H delivers the magnetic flux density to manage that coil properly. The H-grade temperature rating ensures the magnet holds its properties under sustained load at highway speed. On the road: consistent output across a full day of riding — no thermal rolloff as the speaker heats up over distance.

The tweeter is a 1.2-inch PEI dome loaded by the V8™ Dispersion Guide for 360° tweeter projection. At the scale of an 8-inch build, wide tweeter coverage is essential — the V8™ system distributes high-frequency energy across the full listening area rather than toward a single axis. The built-in 6dB crossover protects the tweeter without requiring an external network, and the custom-tooled polycarbonate basket provides UV-stabilised, thermally resistant structural support. On the road: usable treble detail regardless of rider position or mounting angle.

Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage

At 93 dB (1W/1m) and 200W RMS, the CXX8.4 has the output capacity to be heard over Harley exhaust and highway wind noise without running out of headroom. The 4Ω impedance means the amplifier runs cooler and with more current headroom — in sustained high-output riding conditions, that margin is what keeps the system performing over a full day rather than throttling back.

Frequency response runs 50 Hz – 20 kHz (±3 dB). The 8-inch cone area moves substantially more air at lower frequencies than smaller format drivers, giving the CXX8.4 a real contribution to the low end of a system. For builds also running CXX65 and CXX69 in factory positions, the CXX8.4 in a custom location adds genuine bass extension and acoustic scale.

Why 4Ω — Bridged Amps and Thermal Margin

When an amplifier runs in bridged mode, it combines two channels to drive a single speaker pair with more power. The trade-off is that bridging halves the impedance the amplifier sees — a 4Ω speaker on a bridged channel presents a 2Ω load to the amplifier. Most quality amplifiers including the Cicada FLX700.4 are stable at 2Ω in bridged mode. Running a 2Ω speaker bridged would present a 1Ω load — below safe operating limits for most amplifiers. The CXX8.4 is the correct large-format speaker for any bridged-amp custom build.

At 4Ω in a standard stereo configuration, the CXX8.4 also gives the amplifier more thermal headroom. A 4Ω load asks less current from the amplifier than a 2Ω load — less heat, less stress, and more margin for sustained operation. For maximum output from a dedicated 2Ω-stable amplifier running stereo, the CXX8.2 is the higher-output option.
