200 watts. 8 inches. Pro coaxial construction with thermal margin to spare.
The CXX8.4 is Cicada's Pro-series 8" coaxial — the 4Ω variant of the CXX8.2, built for bridged-amp configurations and custom Harley builds where amplifier thermal margin matters. 200W RMS, 93 dB sensitivity, Kevlar cone, N45H neodymium motor, 2.0-inch copper voice coil, V8™ Dispersion Guide for 360° tweeter projection, and Rain or Shine™ weatherproof construction. Tour-Pak, saddlebag lid, lower fairing, and bespoke build positions. Sold in pairs.
The CXX8.4 shares the CXX8.2's specification in every dimension except impedance — Kevlar cone, N45H motor, 2.0-inch voice coil, V8™ Dispersion Guide, 200W RMS, 93 dB. The 4Ω version presents a higher electrical load to the amplifier: lower current demand, less heat, and more tolerance for the wiring realities of a large-format motorcycle install. For bridged amplifier configurations where a 4Ω minimum load is typically required, or systems where amplifier thermal margin is part of the brief, the CXX8.4 is the correct choice.
Who This Speaker Is For
For riders building custom Harley audio systems with 8-inch speaker positions who are running a bridged amplifier configuration or want the conservative system benefits of 4Ω operation. The Pro-series CXX8 build remains unchanged — the impedance choice is about matching the amplifier architecture. For maximum output from a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier at rated stereo output, the CXX8.2 is the 2Ω variant.
What This Is Best For
- Bridged large-format builds — when the amplifier channel driving the 8-inch position is bridged for higher output, the CXX8.4 satisfies the 4Ω minimum load requirement. Bridging halves the impedance the amp sees — a 4Ω speaker bridged presents a 2Ω load, within safe operating range for most quality amplifiers including the Cicada FLX700.4. Match the bridged output level to the speaker's 200W RMS rated capacity.
- Conservative high-output builds — 200W RMS Pro coaxial output with the 4Ω impedance that runs the amplifier cooler and provides more wiring tolerance in a large-format motorcycle install. For long days in hot conditions, or any build where amplifier reliability under sustained load is a priority, 4Ω is the more conservative choice.
- Tour-Pak, saddlebag lid, lower fairing, and custom builds at 4Ω — same application range as the CXX8.2, for systems where 4Ω operation is preferred across the build. Pairs with CXX65.4 and CXX69.4 for a consistent Pro-series 4Ω system throughout.
2Ω vs 4Ω — Choosing the Right Version
The CXX8.4 is a 4Ω speaker — the correct choice for bridged-amp configurations, where bridging two amplifier channels halves the impedance the amp sees. A 4Ω speaker bridged presents a 2Ω load — within safe operating range for the FLX700.4 and most quality amplifiers. A 4Ω load also gives the amplifier more thermal margin in stereo configurations. For maximum output from a 2Ω-stable amplifier running stereo, the CXX8.2 (2Ω) delivers more power from the same hardware.
The Bottom Line
Pro-series 8-inch coaxial output for serious Harley custom builds — 200W RMS, Kevlar cone, N45H neodymium motor, 2.0-inch copper voice coil, V8™ 360° tweeter projection, and Rain or Shine™ weatherproof construction with the 4Ω impedance that adds thermal margin and unlocks bridged configurations. Requires a dedicated external amplifier.
Ready to build? Add to cart above. For non-bridged builds or maximum output from a 2Ω-rated amplifier, the CXX8.2 is the 2Ω variant.
What's Inside the CXX8.4
The cone is Kevlar — low mass, high stiffness, and moisture resistance for an 8-inch driver running at 200W RMS. A stiff Kevlar cone maintains its shape at high excursion, reducing distortion at the output levels this driver is rated for, with dimensional stability across the full range of operating temperatures in a motorcycle environment. On the road: the system stays clean and controlled at high output rather than compressing and hardening as power increases.
The N45H neodymium motor drives a 2.0-inch copper voice coil — sized to handle the thermal demands of 200W RMS and the control requirements of an 8-inch cone at high excursion. N45H delivers the magnetic flux density to manage that coil properly. The H-grade temperature rating ensures the magnet holds its properties under sustained load at highway speed. On the road: consistent output across a full day of riding — no thermal rolloff as the speaker heats up over distance.
The tweeter is a 1.2-inch PEI dome loaded by the V8™ Dispersion Guide for 360° tweeter projection. At the scale of an 8-inch build, wide tweeter coverage is essential — the V8™ system distributes high-frequency energy across the full listening area rather than toward a single axis. The built-in 6dB crossover protects the tweeter without requiring an external network, and the custom-tooled polycarbonate basket provides UV-stabilised, thermally resistant structural support. On the road: usable treble detail regardless of rider position or mounting angle.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
At 93 dB (1W/1m) and 200W RMS, the CXX8.4 has the output capacity to be heard over Harley exhaust and highway wind noise without running out of headroom. The 4Ω impedance means the amplifier runs cooler and with more current headroom — in sustained high-output riding conditions, that margin is what keeps the system performing over a full day rather than throttling back.
Frequency response runs 50 Hz – 20 kHz (±3 dB). The 8-inch cone area moves substantially more air at lower frequencies than smaller format drivers, giving the CXX8.4 a real contribution to the low end of a system. For builds also running CXX65 and CXX69 in factory positions, the CXX8.4 in a custom location adds genuine bass extension and acoustic scale.
Why 4Ω — Bridged Amps and Thermal Margin
When an amplifier runs in bridged mode, it combines two channels to drive a single speaker pair with more power. The trade-off is that bridging halves the impedance the amplifier sees — a 4Ω speaker on a bridged channel presents a 2Ω load to the amplifier. Most quality amplifiers including the Cicada FLX700.4 are stable at 2Ω in bridged mode. Running a 2Ω speaker bridged would present a 1Ω load — below safe operating limits for most amplifiers. The CXX8.4 is the correct large-format speaker for any bridged-amp custom build.
At 4Ω in a standard stereo configuration, the CXX8.4 also gives the amplifier more thermal headroom. A 4Ω load asks less current from the amplifier than a 2Ω load — less heat, less stress, and more margin for sustained operation. For maximum output from a dedicated 2Ω-stable amplifier running stereo, the CXX8.2 is the higher-output option.
Fitment
- Mounting depth: 69 mm (2.7 in).
- Designed for Harley-Davidson builds with 8-inch speaker positions — Tour-Pak, custom saddlebag lid, lower fairing, and bespoke build locations. Not a direct fit for standard factory Harley speaker positions.
