Digital Signal Processors (DSP)
A DSP — digital signal processor — gives you independent control over every speaker channel: parametric EQ, time alignment, crossover frequency and slope, and output level. On a motorcycle where the listening position is fixed and the acoustic environment is brutal, a DSP is what takes a loud system and makes it sound right. Without one, you're guessing at balance and EQ; with one, you tune to your specific bike, helmet and riding style.
Most Harley audio DSP installs place the unit between the head unit's outputs and the amplifier inputs. Standalone DSPs connect in series with an existing amplifier. DSP-amp combo units combine both functions in one box — the Hertz H8 DSP Amplifier is the most common example, used in builds where space is tight and integration matters. Cicada Audio's FLX DSP series offers similar functionality tuned to the Cicada speaker range.
Tuning a DSP requires measurement — a calibration microphone and RTA software, or a professional tune by someone who does this regularly. MAA can advise on the right setup and connect you with qualified tuners for the final step. Ships Australia-wide and to New Zealand.
