Choosing a Head Unit for Your Harley
Fitment first. Head units are model and year specific — a Street Glide unit won't fit a Road Glide, and a 2014–2023 unit won't fit a 1998–2013 bike. Check the year range pills on each product carefully before ordering. If you're unsure, contact us before purchasing.
Screen size and fitment. All SoundStream 7" and 8.3" units are direct replacements for the factory Boom! 4.3, GT and GTS radios on 2014–2023 models — they install using the original mounting hardware and factory antenna with no modification required. For 1998–2013 models, the WHD.9813 is a direct OEM replacement that uses the factory mounting hardware and original AM/FM antenna with no brackets, trim panels or antenna adapters needed. The SG.V2, WHD.SG and WHD.RG offer a larger screen format while remaining direct factory replacements. The Rockford Fosgate 3" unit is a compact option suited to riders who want Bluetooth connectivity without a full display upgrade.
Plug & play installation. Every head unit in this collection connects directly to the factory wiring harness using the original OEM connectors — no cutting, splicing or custom wiring required. The factory antenna, steering wheel controls and handlebar-mounted switches all retain full functionality after installation. For 2014–2023 models the factory amplifier bypass is handled by a plug-and-play harness included with or available alongside the head unit. Installation is straightforward for anyone comfortable with basic motorcycle disassembly.
CarPlay and Android Auto. All current SoundStream units support wireless CarPlay and Android Auto — no cable required. If you're running an older phone or prefer wired, confirm the specific unit supports your setup before ordering.
Pre-out voltage and amplifier pairing. If you're adding an aftermarket amplifier, pre-out voltage matters. Higher pre-out voltage gives your amplifier more clean signal headroom and reduces noise. Check the product page for the specific pre-out spec — it varies across the range.
The WHD.UNLOC is not a replacement head unit — it's an integration module that adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to existing WHD.14 series head units already installed on your bike. If you already have a SoundStream WHD.14, this is the upgrade path rather than a full head unit replacement.
