Ultra / Electra Glide (1998-2013)

Audio upgrades confirmed compatible with 1998–2013 Ultra Limited, Ultra Classic and Electra Glide models. These bikes share the batwing platform with the Street Glide and carry the same analogue audio architecture — conventional speaker-level head unit outputs, 6.5" front fairing positions, and 5×7" saddlebag positions. Ultra models also have Tour-Pak lid positions (6.5" per side) for a third speaker stage.

The Tour-Pak on an Ultra opens up rear audio options not available on the base Street Glide. A dedicated Tour-Pak speaker stage driven from its own amplifier channel gives two-up riders significantly better rear-seat audio. The Tour-Pak lid positions use the same 6.5" cutout as the front fairing — most fairing speakers also fit the Tour-Pak directly, simplifying parts selection.

Pre-Rushmore Ultras are one of the best platforms to build a comprehensive Harley audio system — the Tour-Pak space also provides useful amp mounting real estate. If you're planning a full front-fairing-plus-Tour-Pak build, call us to discuss the right approach. Ships Australia-wide and to New Zealand.

Ultra & Electra Glide Audio — 1998–2013 Classic Full-Dresser Platform

The 1998–2013 Ultra and Electra Glide models are the original full-dresser Harley touring platform — fairing speakers, Tour-Pak speakers and a factory audio system built for long-distance comfort. Upgrading this platform properly means addressing multiple speaker positions and, for serious systems, running separate amplifier channels to each stage.

Factory Audio on This Platform

Classic full-dresser models left the factory with fairing speakers, Tour-Pak speakers and a CD-based head unit sharing limited amplification across all positions. Volume falls off at highway speed across every stage — front fairing and Tour-Pak alike. Long Australian and New Zealand touring runs expose these limitations quickly.

Common Upgrades

Fairing speaker upgrade: The front stage is typically the first priority. High-efficiency 5.25" replacements give the biggest per-dollar improvement for most riders.

Tour-Pak speaker upgrade: Tour-Pak positions can be upgraded independently or alongside the front stage. Matched upgrades across fairing and Tour-Pak give your passenger comparable sound quality to the rider.

Amplifier addition: A 4-channel amp drives front and Tour-Pak positions independently — eliminating the factory head unit as the bottleneck across both stages simultaneously.

Head unit replacement: Replacing the factory CD unit brings modern connectivity and meaningfully better pre-amp output across the whole system.

Fitment Notes

This platform uses 5.25" fairing speakers in most configurations. Tour-Pak speaker sizing varies by model and year — confirm at the product level before ordering. Wiring harnesses differ from 2014+ models; use generation-appropriate loom kits. Contact us before ordering if you're unsure what fits your specific model year.
