A sealed mono amplifier for the low end of a Harley-Davidson® system – 1,000W at 2Ω, 500W at 4Ω, IPX6 rated

The Cicada Audio WX1000.1 is a single-channel Class-D amplifier for mid-bass and subwoofer duty. It makes 1,000W RMS into 2Ω or 500W into 4Ω from an IPX6-rated extruded aluminium chassis, and its power, ground and speaker connections run through factory-moulded, over-braided leads. It has a variable low-pass and subsonic filter and up to 12dB of bass boost. Mounting brackets are included; Cicada amplifier racks are sold separately.

The WX1000.1 is the low-frequency partner in Cicada's sealed WX line. Pair it with the WX900.4 for the speakers, or run it from the pass-through outputs of the WX1200.4PRO so that the whole system is tuned from one processor. If the mono amp will sit somewhere dry and the build calls for more power, the FLX1600.1 is the next step up.

Who This Is For

Riders adding dedicated mid-bass or a woofer to a system where the four-channel amp is already committed to the fairing and saddlebag speakers. It suits riders who want that extra amplifier sealed like the rest of the WX range rather than being the one exposed component. It also suits installers who would rather plug into moulded leads than land cable in a terminal block on a bike that will be ridden in the wet. If you need 1,600W or more at 2Ω for a larger driver array, look at the FLX1600.1 or FLX2500.1.

What This Is Best For

  • A pair of 4Ω mid-bass drivers wired to 2Ω – two 4Ω drivers wired in parallel present 2Ω, where the WX1000.1 makes its full 1,000W, or 500W per driver. A pair of CMB8.S4 8" drivers (500W RMS each) matches that exactly. A pair of CMB10.S4 10" drivers (800W RMS each) runs with thermal margin in hand.
  • A single 4Ω driver – one 4Ω driver on its own receives 500W, which suits a single 10" mid-bass build that wants the amp working well inside its limits.
  • Protecting drivers in small enclosures – the subsonic filter adjusts from 10Hz to 80Hz and cuts content below the frequency a saddlebag or Tour-Pak enclosure can usefully reproduce. Below that point a driver moves further for less sound, which wastes amplifier power and risks over-excursion.
  • Mid-bass as well as sub duty – the low-pass filter runs from 80Hz right up to 20kHz, so it can be set higher than a sub-only amplifier allows. That makes it useful when a mid-bass driver has to meet fairing speakers that start fairly high.
  • A sealed, plug-in install – 305mm (12") moulded 8 AWG power and ground leads, 152mm (6") moulded 16 AWG speaker leads to a female Molex® connector, and Micro DIN signal inputs that take speaker-level or RCA signal through RCA or H-D custom-terminated harnesses.

Getting the Load Right – 2Ω or 4Ω

The WX1000.1 is rated down to 2Ω, and the way you wire the drivers decides where it runs. One 4Ω driver is a 4Ω load (500W). Two 4Ω drivers in parallel make 2Ω (1,000W total). Two 2Ω drivers in parallel make 1Ω, which is below the amplifier's rating, so wire a pair of 2Ω drivers in series for 4Ω instead. Then compare the power each driver will receive with its RMS rating. Matched or below is right. If the amp would deliver well above what the driver can take, choose a larger driver or set the gain conservatively.

The Bottom Line

The WX1000.1 gives a Harley audio system a sealed low end: 1,000W into 2Ω, filters that protect the drivers in a small enclosure, and the same IPX6 construction as the rest of the WX range. To see how it fits with the speakers and amplification on your bike, tell the System Builder your model and year and we'll match the whole system and price it.

Power Output – How the Load Changes It

At 14.4V the WX1000.1 makes 500W into 4Ω and 1,000W into 2Ω, exactly doubling as the load halves. That is ideal behaviour: halving impedance doubles the current the amplifier is asked to deliver, and an output stage that doubles its power into half the load has the current capacity to supply it. On the road: wire for 2Ω and the amp delivers its full rating; it isn't current-limited at the load it was designed for.

Filters and Bass Boost

Two filters shape what reaches the driver, both at 12dB per octave. The subsonic (high-pass) filter is adjustable from 10Hz to 80Hz. Set it just below the lowest frequency your enclosure can usefully reproduce, and the amplifier stops sending energy the driver would turn into cone movement rather than sound. The low-pass filter runs from 80Hz to 20kHz and sets where the WX1000.1 hands over to the speakers above it. On the road: a well-set subsonic filter lets the driver play louder and cleaner at highway speed, because its excursion goes on frequencies you can hear.

Bass boost adds up to 12dB around the boost frequency. Every 3dB of boost doubles the power needed at that frequency, so 12dB asks for about sixteen times the power. Used lightly, it fills out a driver that is a little lean in a particular enclosure. Used at full range with the gain already high, it quickly drives the amplifier into clipping. Watch the clipping LED when setting it.

Sealed Construction

The WX1000.1 has no exposed terminals. Power and ground leave the chassis as 305mm (12") of moulded, over-braided 8 AWG, and the speaker output as 152mm (6") of moulded, over-braided 16 AWG ending in a female Molex® connector. Each exit has over-moulded strain relief in water-repellent material. Inside, the circuit board is conformal coated, and the unit is fully encased in an extruded aluminium heatsink enclosure rated IPX6 under IEC 60529. That means protection against powerful water jets from any direction. It is not a rating for immersion, and a pressure washer held close goes beyond what the test applies. On the road: a mono amp often lives lower or further back on the bike than the four-channel amp, closer to where spray lands, and this one is built for that.

Efficiency is 80% from the IR-based Class-D output stage, and the aluminium body conducts the remaining heat out of the sealed case. The ICAD protection circuit guards against overload, backed by clipping and status LEDs.

Signal Input

The Micro DIN inputs accept high-level (speaker-level) signal straight from a factory radio or another amplifier's speaker outputs, or low-level RCA from a head unit, processor or the pass-through outputs of a WX1200.4PRO. Input sensitivity and gain both adjust across 12V to 0.2V to match the source.

Power Supply and Turn-On

The WX1000.1 operates from 9V to 16V and draws 60A at music levels and 110A at maximum; Cicada recommends an 80A fuse. Added to a four-channel amplifier, that is a significant combined load, so check the total against your bike's charging capacity before finalising the build. Use oxygen-free copper (OFC) power and ground cable and fuse each feed close to the battery. Turn-on can be REM, DC offset or VOX signal-sensing. When the WX1000.1 runs from a WX1200.4PRO pass-through output, VOX saves routing a separate remote wire.

Skyline OS Bikes

On 2023.5 CVO™ and 2024+ Touring models running Skyline OS, factory audio is carried digitally over A2B, and the system takes its signal from an A2B interface such as the NAV-TV ZEN-H or ZEN-H PRO, which is required on these bikes.

Mounting

The included brackets allow more than one mounting orientation. The WX1000.1 is also designed for a secure, factory-style fit on Cicada Audio amplifier racks, which are sold separately. Ask us which rack suits your bike.
