Subwoofers & Enclosures
A dedicated subwoofer adds the frequency range that full-range speakers can't reproduce at realistic volume — the 40–80 Hz bass that you feel as much as hear. On a Harley, sub bass comes from custom enclosure builds: modified Tour-Pak luggage units, fabricated saddlebag boxes, or purpose-built trunk enclosures on trike models. When done right, the result is a system that sounds as complete as a high-end car stereo.
Enclosure design is critical with subwoofers — the wrong box volume or porting undermines even an excellent driver. Most motorcycle sub builds use sealed enclosures because they're compact and forgiving; ported enclosures suit Tour-Pak builds where there's room to engineer a tuned port correctly. Driver selection must match the enclosure volume — a driver optimised for a 30-litre box won't perform in a 10-litre sealed cavity.
