Which Harley models take 6.5 inch fairing speakers?
6.5 inch is the standard fairing upgrade on 2014 to 2023 batwing and 2015 to 2023 Road Glide® models, where the factory speaker is 5.25 inch and a purpose-built 6.5 inch speaker mounts in the factory housing. It is also used in selected lower-fairing and Tour-Pak positions. On 1998 to 2013 bikes the factory fairing is 5.25 inch and a 6.5 inch driver needs an adapter, and on 2024 and newer Skyline bikes the factory size is 5.25 inch on standard models and 6.5 inch on selected CVO and Limited models. Does a 6.5 inch speaker mean the factory opening is 6.5 inch?
No. Harley publishes the factory speaker size, not an opening or basket size. The reason 6.5 inch works on 2014 and later fairings is that speakers built for these bikes bolt into the original housing using the factory screws and alignment pin, without cutting. Diameter alone does not prove fit, so use a speaker confirmed for your fairing rather than a generic 6.5 inch driver.
Should I choose 2Ω or 4Ω?
Match it to your amplifier. Bridging two channels into one speaker commonly needs a 4Ω load, and a 2Ω-stable amp makes more output into a 2Ω speaker per channel in stereo. Check the amplifier's minimum load.
Do 6.5 inch speakers need an amplifier?
They perform best on a dedicated amplifier. Some compatible coaxial models can operate from the factory radio, although output depends on speaker impedance, sensitivity and the radio's available power. Higher-output and dedicated mid-bass models generally require an external amplifier.
