The 6.5 inch SPL midrange for an active, DSP-tuned Harley front stage
The Hertz SV 165.1 is a dedicated 6.5 inch SPL midrange driver for riders building a serious multi-amp, active front stage. With 97dB sensitivity, a strong ferrite motor and a 100 to 10,000Hz mid-focused bandwidth, it projects forward, detailed vocals that stay clear at highway speed. 150W RMS (rated hi-pass filtered at 200Hz, 12dB/oct), 66mm mounting depth. This is a midrange-only driver: separate tweeters are required.
This is not a coaxial you drop in and forget. It is the midrange in a built front stage where tweeters and mid-bass are amplified and crossed over separately. For a lighter neodymium version of the same driver, see the Hertz SV 165 NEO.
Who This Is For
You are building an active, DSP-tuned front stage and you want a dedicated midrange with the efficiency to cut through wind and exhaust. The SV 165.1 belongs in a system with separate tweeters such as the Cicada RR075T horn tweeters, dedicated mid-bass like the Hertz SV 200-L, and a processor such as the Cicada DSP412PRO. If you want a single full-range fairing speaker instead of a component midrange, a coaxial is the simpler choice.
What This Is Best For
- The midrange in an active front stage. Run it with its own amplifier channel and crossover so the mid does only mid duty, which is what gives a built system its clarity and staging.
- High efficiency where power is limited. 97dB sensitivity turns modest amplifier power into real output, so vocals stay forward without huge wattage.
- Cutting through noise. The mid-focused 100 to 10,000Hz band covers the vocal and instrument range that wind and pipes mask most, keeping speech intelligible at speed.
- Controlled excursion. The double-wave treated surround and ultra light pressed-paper cone keep distortion low as levels rise. Xmax is 1.2mm, so the crossover point matters: this is a midrange, not a mid-bass.
This is a midrange, not a full-range speaker
The SV 165.1 covers 100 to 10,000Hz and needs separate tweeters for the top end. Plan 100 to 150W RMS per channel and a low-pass around 3,500 to 5,000Hz where it hands over to the tweeter. For the high-pass, use Hertz's rated condition: 200Hz at 12dB/octave. That is the filter the 150W continuous rating is measured under, and with Fs at 110Hz and only 1.2mm of Xmax there is little excursion in reserve below it. Crossing lower than 200Hz is possible but reduces the power the driver will safely accept, so drop the crossover point and you must drop the power with it. It is built for active, DSP-controlled systems, so if you are not running separate amplification and crossovers, a coaxial fairing speaker is the better fit. Confirm your fairing has 66mm of mounting depth.
The Bottom Line
The Hertz SV 165.1 is the dedicated SPL midrange for a serious active Harley front stage, delivering forward, efficient vocals in a properly amplified and DSP-tuned system. Add it to cart above, and build around it with horn tweeters, mid-bass and a DSP412PRO. For the lighter neo version, see the SV 165 NEO.

| Model | Position | Requirement |

Inside the SV 165.1
The driver pairs an ultra light pressed-paper cone with a ferrite magnet assembly. Pressed paper is light and well-damped, giving natural midrange without the ringing of a stiffer material, while the ferrite motor provides strong, reliable force. On the road: vocals sound natural and stay composed at the high levels a fairing stage runs at.
The double-wave treated surround is the detail that lets it play loud cleanly. It allows controlled excursion while resisting weather, so the mid holds together at output and survives open-air mounting. On the road: the driver takes sustained highway volume without the distortion a lesser surround introduces.
