Hertz SV 200 L — Extreme-Output 8″ SPL Mid-Bass for Custom Harley Systems
The Hertz SV 200 L is an 8″ SPL driver — Hertz classifies it as an SPL Woofer, and we run it as the mid-bass in motorcycle builds — engineered for riders building serious, competition-grade Harley audio systems. With a large cone, high excursion, and wide operational bandwidth, it delivers the punch, impact, and authority that smaller speakers simply cannot match.
Key Features
- High-excursion SPL driver designed for extreme motorcycle audio builds.
- 94.5 dB sensitivity — this driver trades efficiency for output capability. It is the least sensitive driver in the SV range (the SV 165 NEO and SV 165.1 are both 97 dB), so it needs more amplifier power than the midranges to match their level, roughly 1.8 times as much. What you get back is excursion and low-frequency reach neither midrange can approach.
- 4.5 mm Xmax and 44 Hz Fs deliver genuine low-frequency extension in a fairing or pod.
- 45–4,500 Hz bandwidth allows flexible use as mid-bass or extended midrange.
- Massive ferrite motor for strong control and deep mid-bass punch.
- V-Cone® profile improves dispersion and upper-mid transition.
- Ultra light non-pressed paper cone — pulp mixed with cotton fibre — on a lossless polymer rubber surround, driven by a 50 mm (2 in) voice coil.
- Reinforced basket withstands vibration and heavy output.
Why It Works on Harleys
- Huge mid-bass output — delivers the hit and body that 6.5″ drivers cannot produce.
- Perfect for custom fairing pods, side covers, or Tour-Pak enclosures.
- Excellent for multi-amp systems where individual bands are actively crossed over.
- Wide usable range allows seamless integration with tweeters and midranges.
Recommended System Use
- Amplifier Power: 200–250 W RMS. Do not under-power this driver — at 94.5 dB it needs more power than the SV midranges to keep up with them, so budget amplifier channels accordingly.
- High-Pass Filter (Mid-Bass Use): 60–80 Hz @ 12–24 dB/octave
- Low-Pass Filter (Mid-Bass Use): 300–400 Hz
- Midrange Use: HPF 80–100 Hz, LPF 1,500–3,000 Hz
- Enclosure Mounting: Thiele-Small parameters are listed below so you can model a sealed or ported pod properly rather than guessing at volume.
- Note: For fairing installations, ensure strong mounting due to the driver’s weight (2.3 kg).
Fitment
- Designed for custom Harley-Davidson Touring applications
- Often used in 8″ fairing pods, lower fairings, side panels, and Tour-Paks
- Can also use the American Hard Bag 8" Speaker Adaptors for 6x9" mounts
- Requires a 178 mm (7 in) cutout and 82 mm mounting depth (91 mm total depth), with an overall frame diameter of 209 mm (8.3 in)
- Requires adequate mounting depth and structural support
- Not a drop-in replacement for OEM speaker locations
