Street Glide (1998-2013)

Audio upgrades confirmed compatible with the 1998–2013 Street Glide and batwing Touring platform. This generation uses a conventional analogue audio system with direct speaker-level outputs — one of the more straightforward Harley platforms to upgrade. No interface units required, no digital signal conversion: amp wiring is direct from the factory head unit or a plug-and-play replacement.

Front fairing positions use 6.5" speakers, with 5×7" oval saddlebag positions in the rear. Head unit replacement on this platform uses a conventional double-DIN or DIN-aperture unit. Aftermarket speaker adaptor rings are often required to fit wider-basket modern speakers into the factory fairing mounting positions — MAA stocks these for the common 1998–2013 fitment combinations.

If you're upgrading a pre-2014 Street Glide and want to understand the best sequence — speakers first, amp first, or head unit — call us. The pre-Rushmore platform is well understood and the upgrade path is clear. Ships Australia-wide and to New Zealand.

Street Glide Audio — 1998–2013 Classic Batwing Platform

The classic batwing Street Glide runs different audio architecture than the 2014+ generation. Pre-Boom! Box head units, earlier wiring layouts and different fairing speaker mounting mean products designed for newer models often don't cross over cleanly. Everything in this collection has been confirmed for this generation specifically.

Factory Audio on This Platform

Most 1998–2013 Street Glides left the factory with a CD-based head unit, two 5.25" fairing speakers and limited amplification. Output is adequate at low speed but falls apart on the open road — highway wind, exhaust noise and helmet buffeting will overwhelm factory speakers long before you reach legal cruising speeds on an Australian freeway or New Zealand open road.

Common Upgrades

Speaker upgrade: Replacing the 5.25" factory fairing drivers is the highest-impact single change for this generation. High-efficiency coaxials or horn-loaded replacements dramatically improve highway-speed clarity without requiring a head unit change.

Amplifier addition: Factory head units on this platform are underpowered. Adding an amplifier between the head unit and speakers unlocks the full capability of upgraded drivers and transforms highway volume.

Head unit replacement: The original CD and cassette units are old enough to be a liability on any long touring run. Modern replacements bring Bluetooth, USB, better pre-amp output voltage and in many cases Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Fitment Notes

This platform uses 5.25" fairing speakers in most configurations. Some models may accept 6.5" with adapter plates — check product-level fitment notes before ordering. Wiring harnesses for this generation differ from 2014+ models; ensure any amp kit or head unit includes a generation-appropriate loom. Not sure what fits?
