The 3-inch neo compression motor for extreme horn stage builds.

The Cicada Audio RR3TM is a 3-inch N35SH neodymium compression motor — 300W RMS, 8Ω, 110 dB sensitivity, 1.2 kHz – 20 kHz response — designed for mounting in any Cicada Acoustic Wave Guide for maximum-output horn-loaded high-frequency stages on motorcycles and powersports vehicles. Includes 2.9 kHz passive crossovers. Sold as a pair.

The RR3TM is the top-tier motor in the Cicada horn system — a larger-diameter, higher-power, neodymium-driven compression driver that steps up output, frequency extension, and SPL capability over the RR2TM. Like the RR2TM, it mounts directly into any of the five RR3WG-* acoustic wave guides, but the 3-inch diaphragm and N35SH neodymium motor produce a noticeably more aggressive output character — more output at the same power, and more headroom before the motor reaches thermal limits. The neodymium motor structure also runs lighter than ferrite, which matters for builds where weight on the saddlebag lid or fairing assembly is a consideration.

Who This Is For

Riders building an extreme horn-based high-frequency stage where maximum output, low weight, and headroom are the priorities. The RR3TM is the neodymium motor option — higher power, lighter, and capable of wider frequency extension than the ferrite RR2TM. For a solid, thermally proven ferrite motor at lower cost, the RR2TM is the 2-inch ferrite version in the same system.

What This Is Best For

  • Front fairing horn stage, maximum output — mounts in the RR3WG-65F (6.5-inch flat) for Street Glide and Road Glide fairing positions; delivers more output and extension than the RR2TM in the same waveguide.
  • Saddlebag lid horn stage, extreme SPL — pairs with the RR3WG-69F (6×9 flat), RR3WG-69S (6×9 shallow), or RR3WG-69A (6×9 angled) for high-output rear horn stages on Touring saddlebag lid builds.
  • 8-inch flat horn builds, competition-level output — mounts in the RR3WG-8F for the highest-output horn stage in the Cicada system; suited to competition builds and large-format Tour-Pak or custom pod installs.
  • Builds where lightweight motor assembly matters — neodymium motor runs significantly lighter than ferrite, relevant when total lid or fairing weight affects handling.
  • Active DSP horn stage — compatible with the Cicada FLX700.4PRO, FLX1400.4PRO, and DSP412PRO for active crossover and level control.

The RR3TM requires an acoustic wave guide — it does not operate as a standalone unit.

The RR3TM is a compression motor only. An RR3WG-* acoustic wave guide is required and sold separately. Choose the right waveguide for your mounting position: RR3WG-65F (6.5-inch flat), RR3WG-69S (6×9 shallow), RR3WG-69A (6×9 angled), RR3WG-69F (6×9 flat), or RR3WG-8F (8-inch flat).

The Bottom Line

300W RMS, 110 dB, N35SH neodymium compression motor for extreme Cicada horn stage builds. Works with all five RR3WG-* acoustic wave guides. Includes 2.9 kHz passive crossovers. Sold as a pair. For the ferrite motor, the RR2TM is the 2-inch ferrite version.

What's Inside the RR3TM

The RR3TM compression motor uses a 3-inch / 76mm titanium high-temp voice coil driven by an N35SH neodymium motor assembly. The larger 3-inch diaphragm moves more air per stroke than the 2-inch RR2TM — contributing to both the higher power handling (300W RMS vs 200W RMS) and the extended low-frequency reach (600 Hz with appropriate loading). The N35SH neodymium magnet structure delivers high flux density at low mass — a lighter motor assembly than ferrite at equivalent output. The Nanofram™ horn cover is included for environmental protection.

As with all compression drivers in the Cicada system, the RR3TM generates acoustic energy at the motor throat, then uses the mounted waveguide horn to shape dispersion, extend the acoustic path, and focus output toward the listening position. The 110 dB sensitivity means serious output is achievable on relatively modest amplifier power — relevant in motorcycle builds where available amplifier channels are shared across a full front and rear stage. On the bike: the RR3TM produces a dense, aggressive high-frequency presentation — more forward-throw and more perceived loudness at highway speeds than conventional dome or ring radiator tweeters at the same power level.

The included 2.9 kHz / 6 dB passive crossovers provide basic high-pass protection. For active DSP builds, the crossover can be bypassed and the high-pass implemented at the amplifier or DSP, which is the recommended approach for maximum output and tuning control. A system-level high-pass set above 1.2 kHz is strongly recommended to protect the motor from out-of-band content.

RR3TM vs RR2TM

The RR3TM and RR2TM mount into the same five Cicada Acoustic Wave Guides and share the same overall system architecture. The RR3TM steps up in power handling (300W vs 200W RMS), sensitivity (110 dB vs 108 dB), motor weight (neodymium is lighter than ferrite), and maximum output headroom. The RR2TM's ferrite motor offers better thermal stability under continuous extreme load at lower cost. For most high-output builds, the RR3TM is the preferred choice; for continuous-duty competition builds where motor temperature is a design constraint, the RR2TM is the thermal-margin option.

Acoustic Wave Guide Compatibility

The RR3TM is compatible with all five Cicada Acoustic Wave Guides. The waveguide determines mounting footprint, mounting depth, and acoustic character:

  • RR3WG-65F — 6.5-inch flat. Fairing positions, pods, tight spaces.
  • RR3WG-69F — 6×9-inch flat. Maximum horn mouth area, highest throw and efficiency in the 6×9 format.
  • RR3WG-69S — 6×9-inch shallow. Tight mounting depth, saddlebag lid positions with clearance constraints.
  • RR3WG-69A — 6×9-inch angled. Directional aim built into the horn — targets the rider from the saddlebag lid position.
  • RR3WG-8F — 8-inch flat. Largest mouth area, maximum projection. Tour-Pak, custom pods, large-format builds.
