The 2-inch ferrite compression motor for Cicada horn stage builds.
The Cicada Audio RR2TM is a 2-inch ferrite compression motor — 200W RMS, 8Ω, 108 dB sensitivity, 1.2 kHz – 20 kHz response — designed for mounting in any Cicada Acoustic Wave Guide for horn-loaded high-frequency stages on motorcycles and powersports vehicles. Includes 2.9 kHz passive crossovers. Sold as a pair.
The RR2TM is the motor component of a Cicada horn system. It mounts directly into any of the five RR3WG-* acoustic wave guides — 6.5-inch flat, 6×9-inch flat, 6×9-inch shallow, 6×9-inch angled, or 8-inch flat — to form a complete horn-loaded high-frequency stage. Unlike a dome or ring radiator tweeter, a compression driver builds acoustic pressure at the throat of a waveguide, then uses the horn shape to control dispersion and extend throw. The result is higher sensitivity, more output per watt, and wider coverage at distance than conventional tweeter designs. The RR2TM uses a Y35 ferrite motor — thermally stable and proven for sustained high-output operation.
Who This Is For
Riders building a horn-based front or rear stage using a Cicada Acoustic Wave Guide on a motorcycle or powersports build. The RR2TM is the ferrite motor option — thermally robust and suited to continuous high-output use. For the neodymium motor upgrade, the RR3TM is the 3-inch neo version in the same system.
What This Is Best For
- Front fairing horn stage — mounts in the RR3WG-65F (6.5-inch flat) for Street Glide and Road Glide fairing positions, or with a Nanofram™ cover for direct-fit 2014–2023 builds.
- Saddlebag lid horn stage — pairs with the RR3WG-69F (6×9 flat, maximum throw), RR3WG-69S (6×9 shallow, tight clearance), or RR3WG-69A (6×9 angled, directional aim toward the rider) in saddlebag lid positions.
- 8-inch flat horn builds — mounts in the RR3WG-8F for maximum horn mouth area and front-throw in Tour-Pak, custom pod, or large-format lid builds.
- High-SPL builds where sustained thermal performance matters — ferrite motor runs cool under continuous high-output operation, making it well-suited to competition and extended-ride builds.
- Active DSP horn stage — compatible with the Cicada FLX700.4PRO, FLX1400.4PRO, and DSP412PRO for active crossover and level control at the amplifier/DSP level.
The RR2TM requires an acoustic wave guide — it does not operate as a standalone unit.
The RR2TM is a compression motor only. An RR3WG-* acoustic wave guide is required and sold separately. Choose the right waveguide for your mounting position: RR3WG-65F (6.5-inch flat), RR3WG-69S (6×9 shallow), RR3WG-69A (6×9 angled), RR3WG-69F (6×9 flat), or RR3WG-8F (8-inch flat).
The Bottom Line
200W RMS, 108 dB, Y35 ferrite compression motor for Cicada horn stage builds. Works with all five RR3WG-* acoustic wave guides. Includes 2.9 kHz passive crossovers. Sold as a pair. For the 3-inch neodymium motor, the RR3TM is the higher-output neo version.

What's Inside the RR2TM
The RR2TM compression motor uses a 2-inch / 50mm aluminium high-temp voice coil wound over a Y35 ferrite motor assembly. Ferrite offers dense, stable magnetic flux and excellent thermal handling under continuous high-output operation — the trade-off against neodymium is weight and size, with the ferrite assembly running heavier. The Nanofram™ horn cover is included on the motor for environmental protection and acoustic loading when in use.
Unlike ring radiator and dome tweeters, compression drivers work differently: acoustic energy from the diaphragm is concentrated at the motor throat, then expanded and shaped by the waveguide horn. The horn controls directivity and increases acoustic efficiency — a properly loaded compression driver converts a higher proportion of electrical input to acoustic output than an equivalent dome tweeter. The RR2TM at 108 dB means significant output from a relatively modest amplifier channel. On the bike: the RR2TM produces a projected, focused high-frequency stage — not soft ambient highs, but a forward, concert-style presentation that stays clear from front stage to rear lid at highway speeds.
The included 2.9 kHz / 6 dB passive crossovers provide a basic high-pass to protect the motor from sub-crossover content. For active DSP builds, the crossover can be bypassed and the high-pass implemented at the amplifier or DSP — this is the recommended approach for maximum tuning flexibility and output control. A system-level high-pass set above 1.2 kHz is strongly recommended to protect the motor from out-of-band content.
Acoustic Wave Guide Compatibility
The RR2TM is compatible with all five Cicada Acoustic Wave Guides. The waveguide you choose determines the physical mounting footprint, mounting depth, and acoustic character of the completed horn stage:
- RR3WG-65F — 6.5-inch flat. Fairing positions, pods, tight spaces.
- RR3WG-69F — 6×9-inch flat. Maximum horn mouth area, highest throw and efficiency in the 6×9 format.
- RR3WG-69S — 6×9-inch shallow. Tight mounting depth, saddlebag lid positions with clearance constraints.
- RR3WG-69A — 6×9-inch angled. Directional aim built into the horn — targets the rider from the saddlebag lid position.
- RR3WG-8F — 8-inch flat. Largest mouth area, maximum projection. Tour-Pak, custom pods, large-format builds.
