The dedicated 6×9" mid-bass driver for bridged-amp and 4Ω saddlebag builds – CMC™ cone, ceramic motor, Rain or Shine™.
The Cicada Audio CMB69.4 is a dedicated 6×9-inch 4Ω mid-bass driver – 150W RMS, 88 dB sensitivity, Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) cone, Black Coat™ OFC 1.5-inch voice coil, Y35 ceramic motor, die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™, and Rain or Shine™ all-weather construction. Frequency response 45 Hz – 1 kHz. Sold in pairs. Requires an active DSP crossover or passive high-pass filter – not for full-range use.
A coaxial in the saddlebag lid divides its energy across the full frequency range. At highway speed, the mid-bass goes soft under load and the integrated tweeter takes a beating covering ground it shouldn't. The CMB69.4 takes a different approach: a dedicated mid-bass driver that handles 45 Hz to 1 kHz with authority, freeing a dedicated tweeter to cover the highs cleanly. Pair it with an RR1T horn tweeter, run the crossover through a DSP412PRO or FLX700.4PRO, and you have a two-way rear stage that sounds like a real system. The 4Ω impedance is what sets the CMB69.4 apart from the CMB69.2 – the correct choice when running a bridged amplifier configuration or building a consistent 4Ω system. For the higher-output pro version with neodymium motor and 94 dB sensitivity, see the CM69.4X.
Who This Is For
Riders building a two-way component rear stage in 6×9-inch saddlebag lid positions who are running a bridged amplifier configuration, or who need a consistent 4Ω impedance across the system. The CMB69.4 is the 4Ω version: when an amplifier bridges two channels to drive a speaker pair, each channel effectively works into half the speaker's impedance. A 2Ω speaker on a bridged channel pair would put each channel at about 1Ω – below safe operating limits for most amplifiers. The CMB69.4 meets the minimum 4Ω speaker load that quality motorcycle amplifiers are rated for when bridged – each channel effectively works into 2Ω. For standard stereo configurations with a dedicated 2Ω-stable amplifier, the CMB69.2 (2Ω) delivers rated output with less current demand per channel. For riders who want a single coaxial in the same saddlebag position, the CHX69.4 includes the horn tweeter and crossover in one package. For the highest-output dedicated mid-bass build in the 6×9-inch position – neodymium motor, 94 dB, 250W RMS – step up to the CM69.4X.
What This Is Best For
- Bridged-amp rear stage builds – when the amplifier bridges two channels for the rear stage, it needs a minimum 4Ω speaker load to operate safely. The CMB69.4 at 4Ω meets that rating – each channel effectively works into 2Ω – for amplifiers including the FLX700.4PRO and FLX1400.4PRO. Running a 2Ω driver bridged would put each channel at about 1Ω – a configuration that exceeds safe operating limits for most amplifiers.
- Two-way component rear stage with DSP crossover – the CMB69.4 in the saddlebag lid opening, crossed over actively and paired with a dedicated horn tweeter. The RR1T or RR075T handles the highs; the CMB69.4 handles the mid-bass with a dedicated driver that isn't simultaneously managing tweeter frequencies. The FLX700.4PRO and FLX1400.4PRO provide DSP crossover control for both channels from a single unit.
- Consistent 4Ω system builds – in builds where the front fairing speakers are 4Ω – CX65.4, CXX65.4 – the CMB69.4 keeps the full system at a consistent 4Ω, simplifying amplifier channel assignment and thermal management across a four-channel amplifier running stereo or bridged.
- Better amplifier thermal margin – a 4Ω load draws less current from the amplifier than a 2Ω load at the same volume. In sustained high-temperature conditions – a full touring day in summer – the reduced current demand at 4Ω keeps the amplifier cooler and extends operating headroom before thermal protection activates.
- Lower-bass extension in the saddlebag – the CMB69.4's 45 Hz lower limit provides more extension into the bass region than a standard fairing coaxial. Managed correctly by DSP crossover in the sealed saddlebag enclosure, the driver delivers genuine mid-bass foundation from the rear stage without a dedicated subwoofer.
⚠️ Crossover Required – This Driver Will Be Damaged Without One
The CMB69.4 is a dedicated mid-bass driver and must not be run full-range. Operating this driver without a high-pass crossover in a sealed saddlebag enclosure will cause over-excursion and permanent damage – the limited internal air volume of the saddlebag lid cannot support low-frequency excursion at the driver's lower limit.
High-pass crossover settings required:
General: 80–250 Hz @ 12–24 dB/octave minimum.
Saddlebag and enclosed installations: 250 Hz @ 24 dB/octave, or 300 Hz @ 12 dB/octave minimum.
Lower crossover settings in a sealed enclosure will cause distortion and damage.
An active DSP crossover is strongly recommended – the FLX700.4PRO, FLX1400.4PRO, or DSP412PRO all provide the required crossover control. A passive high-pass filter at the correct frequency is the minimum acceptable alternative. Contact MAA before ordering if you are unsure about crossover setup in your system.

What's Inside the CMB69.4
The cone is Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) – a lightweight composite that maintains rigidity and dimensional stability across the temperature range a saddlebag speaker experiences in Australian riding conditions. The 1.5-inch / 38mm Black Coat™ OFC copper voice coil handles sustained 150W RMS with high conductivity and low resistance. As a dedicated mid-bass driver running between the high-pass crossover point and 1 kHz, the CMC™ cone's rigidity keeps its mechanical behaviour consistent across a full day's riding at output. On the road: defined, consistent mid-bass from the saddlebag lid position whether you're on the first kilometre of the day or the five hundredth.
The motor is a Y35 ceramic magnet – a thermally stable motor structure that provides the field strength required for mid-bass output at 150W RMS. The Ribbed Santoprene® high roll surround resists UV, moisture, and the temperature cycling of an outdoor motorcycle environment without the compliance degradation that foam surrounds develop over time. On the road: consistent mechanical behaviour through seasonal temperature swings – a saddlebag speaker that performs the same way in a Queensland summer as it did when it was installed.
The die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™ channels airflow through the motor assembly. In a sealed saddlebag lid enclosure where ambient temperature is high and ventilation is limited, thermal management at the basket level extends operating time at sustained output. No tweeter or crossover is included – the CMB69.4 is designed to operate as the mid-bass element of a two-way component system, with crossover management handled at the amplifier or DSP level.
Why a Dedicated Mid-Bass Driver
A coaxial speaker in a saddlebag lid handles the full frequency range from one driver. Under sustained load at highway speed, the mid-bass cone works hard across its full excursion range while the integrated tweeter simultaneously reproduces high frequencies from the same motor. At volume, the result is thermal compression affecting both frequency ranges – the output softens, imaging collapses, and the tweeter absorbs low-frequency energy it isn't designed for.
The CMB69.4 operates from 45 Hz to 1 kHz – the frequency range where the punch, warmth, and body of audio lives at highway speed. Crossed over correctly with a dedicated tweeter, each driver handles only the band it is designed for. The CMB69.4's voice coil and cone manage mid-bass excursion without simultaneously producing high frequencies; the tweeter reproduces highs without low-frequency content pushing against it. On the road: a rear stage that maintains definition and clarity at the volume levels needed to hear it at highway speed – not the softening and congestion of a coaxial being pushed past its comfort zone.
Why 4Ω – Bridged Amps and Thermal Margin
When an amplifier runs in bridged mode, it combines two channels to drive a single speaker pair with more power. The trade-off is that each amplifier channel effectively works into half the speaker's impedance – a 4Ω speaker across a bridged channel pair means each channel sees 2Ω. Amplifiers including the FLX700.4PRO and FLX1400.4PRO are rated for a minimum 4Ω speaker load when bridged. Running a 2Ω speaker bridged would put each channel at about 1Ω – below safe operating limits for most amplifiers, and a configuration that risks amplifier damage under sustained load. The CMB69.4 is the correct mid-bass driver for any bridged rear-stage configuration.
At 4Ω in a standard stereo configuration, the CMB69.4 also gives the amplifier more thermal headroom – less current demand, less heat, more margin for sustained operation. For long touring days in hot conditions, the 4Ω configuration is the more conservative choice. For maximum output from a dedicated 2Ω-stable amplifier running in stereo, the CMB69.2 (2Ω) is the higher-output option per channel.
