Cicada Audio CHX69.4 — 6x9" Pro Coaxial Horn Motorcycle Speakers (4Ω, Carbon Matrix Composite)

Cicada Audio CHX69.4 — 6×9″ Pro Coaxial Horn Speakers for Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Audio Systems (4Ω, Carbon Matrix Composite)

If you want huge rear-stage output with amplifier flexibility and rock-solid control, the CHX69.4 delivers.

The Cicada Audio CHX69.4 is a high-output 6×9-inch Pro Coaxial Horn speaker engineered for Harley-Davidson saddlebag lids, rear pods and touring systems requiring power, clarity and durability. Featuring a Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone, oversized 2.5″ mid-bass voice coil and a 1.75″ horn-loaded tweeter, the CHX69.4 provides powerful, controlled output with excellent efficiency.

The 4Ω configuration offers increased amplifier compatibility, making it ideal for bridged channels and multi-speaker systems while still delivering serious rear-stage authority.

Key Features

  • 6×9″ pro coaxial horn design: Wide coverage and high-output projection.
  • Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone: Lightweight, rigid and weather-resistant.
  • 4Ω impedance: Ideal for bridged amplifiers and multi-speaker channel sharing.
  • N35SH neodymium motor: High-efficiency performance with improved thermal control.
  • Repairable horn tweeter: Serviceable 1.75″ tweeter voice coil (CHT175).
  • External 12 dB crossover: Includes -3 / -6 dB tweeter attenuation.
  • Motorcycle-ready construction: Designed for harsh touring environments.

Recommended Power Amplifiers

For correct output, control and long-term reliability, Cicada Audio recommends the following amplifiers:

  • FLX1000.4 — ideal when bridged with 4Ω speaker loads
  • FLX1400.4
  • FLX1400.4P — DSP-equipped for advanced tuning and protection
  • FLX2000.4

Note: Using a properly powered amplifier with adequate headroom is essential to prevent distortion and mechanical damage.

⚠️ IMPORTANT – Crossover & Setup Requirements (Read Before Installation)

All horn speakers have mechanical limits. Regardless of power ratings or advertised “MAX” figures, a speaker can only move so far before mechanical failure occurs.

Most horn speaker failures are NOT burned voice coils. In real-world motorcycle installs, damage is typically caused by over-excursion — the speaker moving too far because it is crossed over too low.

This leads to tinsel leads tearing away from the voice coil or spider. Once this happens, the speaker is permanently damaged.

Required High-Pass Crossover Settings
  • CH65.4v2 / CH65.2v2: 120 Hz and up, 24 dB/octave
  • CH69.4W / CH69.2W: 90 Hz and up, 24 dB/octave
  • CH8.4W / CH8.2W: 90 Hz and up, 24 dB/octave

Lower crossover points WILL cause distortion and speaker damage.

Saddlebag & Pod Installations – Critical Note

When using 6×9 or 8-inch Pro Mid-Bass / Horn drivers inside saddlebags, internal air volume is limited.

Cicada Audio strongly recommends the following DSP settings:

  • 250 Hz @ 24 dB/octave, or
  • 300 Hz @ 12 dB/octave

Never run these speakers full-range.
Any lower crossover point in saddlebag applications will result in mechanical over-excursion and permanent speaker failure.

Amplifier & Wiring Setup Notes
  • Most “blown” horn speakers are caused by under-powered or clipping amplifiers, not excessive power.
  • Always use a high-pass filter on horn drivers.
  • Avoid running speakers below their resonance frequency (Fs).
  • Set amplifier gain correctly to prevent clipping.

Always high-pass coaxial horn drivers.

Why It Works So Well on Motorcycles

  • Huge output capability: 6x9 format moves more air for a bigger, fuller rear stage.
  • Perfect for lids: Provides the projection needed to keep up with strong front stages.
  • Clear at any speed: Horn tweeter easily cuts through wind, exhaust and road noise.
  • Engineered for touring: Built to survive harsh Australian heat, vibration and weather.
