6×9 PRO horn output with the thermal margin of a 4Ω build.

The Cicada Audio CHX69.4 is a 6×9-inch 4Ω PRO coaxial horn speaker — 400W RMS, 92 dB sensitivity, aluminium horn tweeter with Nanofram™ all-weather horn cover, repairable CHT175 1.75-inch tweeter voice coil, Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) mid-bass cone, Black Coat™ OFC 2.5-inch mid-bass voice coil, N35SH neodymium motor, tweeter attenuation (-3/-6 dB), and an external 12 dB crossover in a die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™. Built primarily for saddlebag lid enclosures on Harley-Davidson Touring. Sold in pairs.

The CHX69.4 shares every construction element with the CHX69.2 — the same CMC™ cone, the same repairable CHT175 tweeter, the same 400W RMS power handling and 92 dB sensitivity. The 4Ω impedance presents a higher electrical load to the amplifier than the 2Ω version: lower current demand, reduced amplifier thermal stress, and compatibility with bridged amplifier configurations where a 4Ω minimum load is required. The horn output is identical. The infrastructure demands are lighter.

Who This Speaker Is For

For riders running bridged rear channels, or who want the conservative 4Ω impedance for better system thermal performance in saddlebag lid and rear stage positions. The CHX69.4 is the 4Ω variant of the CHX69.2 — same driver, same PRO construction, higher impedance. For dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifiers in stereo, the CHX69.2 extracts maximum power.

What This Is Best For

  • Bridged rear channels on Street Glide, Road Glide, or Ultra builds — when rear channels are bridged for higher per-channel output to the rear stage, the CHX69.4 satisfies the 4Ω minimum load requirement while delivering the PRO horn coaxial's 92 dB output from the same saddlebag lid position.
  • Uniform 4Ω PRO horn builds — pairing CHX69.4 rear with CHX65.4 front gives the full system consistent 4Ω impedance across every position. Consistent impedance simplifies amplifier matching, reduces wiring complexity, and cuts total system current demand.
  • Builds where the amplifier is already working hard on the front stage — 4Ω rear speakers reduce the current the amplifier draws from the rear channels, giving the front stage more headroom in a shared-amp system.
  • Tour-Pak positions with custom 6×9 lids — the same position fitment as the CHX69.2, with the impedance choice that suits the amplifier configuration. Saddlebag lid installs remain the more common application.

⚠ Crossover Setting — Read Before Installing

Set your high-pass crossover to 90 Hz minimum at 24 dB/oct slope before powering the CHX69.4. Horn coaxial drivers reach their mechanical travel limit (XMAX) at low frequencies — crossing over too low causes over-excursion. The damage is mechanical: tinsel lead connections tear from the voice coil/spider assembly as the cone overextends. This is not a power problem. It is a crossover problem.

If pairing with a 10-inch pro mid-bass in a bag divider enclosure: the limited air space of the bag divider requires a higher crossover setting. Set the CHX69.4 to 250 Hz at 24 dB/oct on DSP, or 300 Hz at 12 dB/oct on any amplifier. Any lower crossover point will cause distortion and driver damage.

2Ω vs 4Ω — Choosing the Right Version

The CHX69.4 is a 4Ω speaker. Choose the 4Ω version for bridged amplifier configurations, conservative system designs where amplifier thermal margin matters, or when the amplifier already delivers sufficient power at 4Ω. For maximum output from a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier in stereo, the CHX69.2 (2Ω) is the correct choice.

The Bottom Line

400W RMS, 92 dB, 6×9 PRO horn coaxial with CMC™ cone, repairable CHT175 tweeter, Nanofram™ all-weather cover — the 4Ω version for bridged and conservative builds in saddlebag lid and rear stage positions.

Ready to upgrade? Add to cart above. For the 2Ω variant, the CHX69.2 is the same speaker at 2Ω. For an 8-inch PRO horn in larger custom enclosures, the CHX8.4 is the larger-format 4Ω option.

What's Inside the CHX69.4

The CHX69.4 is identical in construction to the CHX69.2 — all construction notes below apply equally to both impedance variants.

The tweeter is an aluminium dome in a horn waveguide, protected by the Nanofram™ Horn Cover for all-weather protection in exposed saddlebag lid and rear positions. The 1.75-inch (44mm) CHT175 repairable OFC copper tweeter voice coil can be replaced if damaged. Horn loading delivers 92 dB sensitivity. The 4Ω impedance adds thermal headroom to both the driver and the amplifier at the operating levels this speaker handles. On the road: rear-stage PRO horn output from the saddlebag position with the amplifier running cooler across the rear channels.

The mid-bass cone is Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) — lightweight, rigid, and thermally stable. The 2.5-inch / 64mm Black Coat™ OFC copper mid-bass voice coil handles sustained 400W RMS. The motor is an N35SH neodymium with H-grade temperature rating. The die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™ manages heat build-up through active airflow. Tweeter attenuation of -3 or -6 dB allows balancing the horn tweeter's output against the mid-bass in the rear stage acoustic environment.

The external 12 dB crossover is custom-tooled, vented, and encased, with the tweeter attenuation resistor heat-sink encased separately.

Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage

At 92 dB (1W/1m) and 400W RMS, the CHX69.4 matches the output of the CHX69.2 — the impedance choice changes amplifier compatibility, not speaker performance. Frequency response runs 46 Hz – 20 kHz (±3 dB). The 4Ω impedance means the amplifier draws less current from the rear channels — in a four-channel build where all channels share one amp, 4Ω rear speakers give the front stage more thermal headroom.

Why 4Ω — Bridged Amps and Thermal Margin

A 4Ω speaker presents a higher electrical load than a 2Ω speaker — lower current demand, less heat on both sides, and compatibility with bridged configurations. For builds where rear channels are bridged for maximum per-channel output, the 4Ω load satisfies the minimum impedance requirement on amplifiers including the FLX1000.4 and FLX1400.4. For stereo installs at the amp's rated 2Ω output, the CHX69.2 is the matching choice.

Fitment

  • Designed primarily for custom saddlebag lid enclosures — the most common 6×9 position on Harley-Davidson Touring models.
  • Custom saddlebag lid enclosures: Purpose-built saddlebag lids with appropriate internal volume and a 6×9 cutout. The primary fitment for this speaker on Harley Touring.
  • Tour-Pak positions: Aftermarket Tour-Pak lids accommodating 6×9 drivers are available — the CHX69.4 fits those builds when the Tour-Pak lid is designed for this format.
  • Other rear speaker positions on models with 6×9 factory or custom locations.
  • Mounting Depth: 96 mm (3.75 in). Mounting Diameter (cutout): 145 mm × 216 mm (5.7 in × 8.5 in).
  • Wiring: 0.187 connectors — matches stock H-D speaker wiring. Four spare bare 0.187 connectors included as backups.
  • Compatible with 4Ω-rated amplifiers including bridged configurations — FLX1000.4, FLX1400.4, and other 4Ω-stable motorcycle amplifiers.
