8" mid-bass speaker pair for Harley-Davidson Touring custom installs — 200W RMS, N45H Neodymium motor, Kevlar® cone, 4Ω
The Cicada Audio CXXM8.4 is an 8-inch mid-bass speaker pair built for custom Harley Touring installs — saddlebag lids, Tour-Pak™ enclosures, or lower fairing positions fitted with the correct mounting kit or adaptor. Sold as a matched pair with 200W RMS power handling each, a Kevlar® cone, N45H Neodymium motor, OFC copper voice coils, and a custom-tooled Polycarbonate frame, the CXXM8.4 is a Rain or Shine™-rated, all-weather design built to handle direct sun and moisture exposure in an external mounting position. Grilles and mounting hardware are included.
A 2Ω version of this driver, the CXXM8.2, is also available. The two variants are otherwise identical — same cone, motor, frame, and power handling — the only difference is voice coil impedance. Choose this 4Ω version if your amplifier channel will be bridged to drive the pair; choose the CXXM8.2 if you're running the pair directly off two amplifier channels rated to handle a 2Ω load, where bridging isn't required or isn't an option.
Who This Is For
The CXXM8.4 is for Harley-Davidson Touring riders fitting an 8" mid-bass pair into a saddlebag lid, a Tour-Pak™ enclosure, or a lower fairing build on Road Glide® — using the Cicada 14CHDLID8 saddlebag lid kit on 2014–2023 models, or a custom mount/adaptor on earlier models, Tour-Pak™, and lower fairing builds. Its high sensitivity (93 dB) and Neodymium motor mean it plays loud and clean off modest amplifier power, making the Cicada FLX500.4 a sensible starting point for the pair. If your build calls for more headroom, a bridged FLX700.4 will drive the pair harder without exceeding the 200W RMS per-speaker rating. If your amp setup calls for direct, non-bridged 2Ω channels instead, the CXXM8.2 is the correct variant. If you need a deeper, higher-power 8" mid-bass for a purpose-built saddlebag enclosure instead, see the ferrite-motor CMB8.S4 (500W RMS, single driver).
What This Is Best For
- 8" mid-bass installs across saddlebag, Tour-Pak™, or lower fairing positions — The CXXM8.4 is built for saddlebag lid, Tour-Pak™ enclosure, and lower fairing installs. On 2014–2023 saddlebag lid models the Cicada 14CHDLID8 kit gives a direct mounting solution; earlier models, Tour-Pak™ builds, and lower fairing installs use a custom-cut opening or adaptor sized to the speaker's mounting hardware. On the road: the shallow 69mm mounting depth keeps clearance requirements manageable in tighter enclosure spaces where a deeper driver wouldn't fit.
- High sensitivity (93 dB) for clean output on modest amplifier power — At 93 dB (1W/1M), the CXXM8.4 needs significantly less amplifier power than a typical mid-bass driver to reach the same output level, which is why Cicada pairs it as a true stereo pair rather than a per-channel component speaker. On the road: a 4-channel amp like the FLX500.4 drives the pair to genuine output without strain, simplifying wiring and amp selection for a straightforward two-speaker system.
- Kevlar® cone for moisture and heat resistance — Kevlar® is lightweight, exceptionally strong, and resistant to both high temperature and moisture absorption — properties that matter directly for a driver mounted in an external saddlebag or Tour-Pak™ position exposed to weather. On the road: the cone holds its shape and stiffness through Australian summer heat and wet-weather riding without the softening or moisture swelling that degrades output in lesser cone materials over time.
- N45H Neodymium motor for high efficiency at low weight — The N45H Neodymium magnet delivers strong magnetic flux density in a compact, lightweight motor structure, contributing directly to the CXXM8.4's high sensitivity rating. For Tour-Pak™ installs where every gram of added weight matters, a lighter motor assembly is a real advantage over a ferrite equivalent. On the road: less unsprung mass added to a Tour-Pak™ build, with no compromise to output or efficiency.
- Rain or Shine™ all-weather design with UV-protected surfaces — Every exposed surface is UV protected against fading and degradation from direct sun exposure, and the Rain or Shine™ design rating reflects Cicada's testing for external motorcycle mounting positions. On the road: a saddlebag lid or Tour-Pak™-mounted speaker holds its finish and seal integrity ride after ride, regardless of weather.
Saddlebag lid, Tour-Pak™, or lower fairing — confirm your mounting kit before ordering
The CXXM8.4's mounting hardware doesn't match a factory Harley speaker cutout directly. For 2014–2023 saddlebag lid models, the Cicada 14CHDLID8 kit is the purpose-built mounting solution. For 1998–2013 saddlebag lids, Tour-Pak™ enclosures, and Road Glide® lower fairing builds, a custom-cut opening or adaptor plate sized to the speaker's mounting depth and diameter is required. Confirm your mounting plan before ordering — contact MAA if you need help selecting the right kit or adaptor for your specific build.

The Bottom Line
The CXXM8.4 is a high-sensitivity 8" mid-bass pair built for custom Harley Touring installs — saddlebag lids, Tour-Pak™ builds, or Road Glide® lower fairing locations. Use the Cicada 14CHDLID8 kit for a 2014–2023 saddlebag lid install, or a custom mount/adaptor elsewhere. Run the pair off a Cicada FLX500.4 as a sensible starting point, or bridge a FLX700.4 for extra headroom. Need a non-bridged 2Ω setup instead? The CXXM8.2 is the matching variant. If your build needs more output from a single dedicated driver per side instead of a pair, the CMB8.S4 (500W RMS) is the step up. Contact MAA to confirm your mounting plan before ordering.
The CXXM8.4 pairs a Kevlar® cone with an N45H Neodymium motor and OFC copper voice coils in a custom-tooled Polycarbonate frame — a lightweight, high-sensitivity mid-bass architecture built for external motorcycle mounting positions exposed to weather and vibration.
Kevlar® Cone
The CXXM8.4 uses a Kevlar® cone — a material chosen for its combination of low mass, exceptional tensile strength, and resistance to both high temperature and moisture absorption. Unlike paper or untreated composite cones, Kevlar® doesn't soften or swell when exposed to humidity, and it holds its shape under sustained excursion at high output. On the road: the cone maintains its stiffness and linear behaviour through wet-weather riding and direct sun exposure in an external saddlebag or Tour-Pak™ position, without the gradual performance loss that moisture-absorbing cone materials suffer over time.
N45H Neodymium Motor
The N45H Neodymium magnet delivers high magnetic flux density in a compact, lightweight motor assembly — directly contributing to the CXXM8.4's 93 dB sensitivity rating. A higher-efficiency motor means the speaker reaches a given output level with less amplifier power than a comparable ferrite design, and the reduced mass matters for Tour-Pak™ installs where every gram of added weight affects handling. On the road: a Tour-Pak™-mounted pair adds less unsprung weight than a ferrite-motor equivalent, with no compromise to output level or efficiency.
OFC Copper Voice Coils
The voice coils use Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) winding — a higher-purity conductor than standard copper alloys, offering lower electrical resistance and therefore less resistive heating at a given power level. Lower heat generation extends the coil's sustainable power handling and reduces the risk of thermal compression during sustained output. On the road: the voice coils run cooler at sustained volume, helping the CXXM8.4 hold its output level through extended highway riding rather than gradually compressing as the coil heats.
Custom-Tooled Polycarbonate Frame
The custom-tooled Polycarbonate frame is engineered to withstand extreme heat without softening or warping — a meaningful design choice for a speaker that may be mounted close to dark-coloured saddlebag or Tour-Pak™ surfaces under direct Australian sun. Polycarbonate's impact resistance also protects the frame from the vibration and mechanical stress of sustained highway riding. On the road: the frame holds its geometry and mounting integrity through a hot parked afternoon in direct sun and the continuous vibration of a long touring day.
Why Neodymium and Kevlar® — and Why It Suits This Application
The CXXM8.4's combination of a Neodymium motor and a Kevlar® cone is built around one priority: maximum sensitivity and weather resistance in the lightest practical package. For an externally mounted speaker — saddlebag lid, Tour-Pak™, or lower fairing — that combination means less added weight, less amplifier power required to reach a given output level, and better long-term resistance to the moisture and heat exposure that an external mounting position guarantees. If your build instead calls for maximum power handling from a single dedicated driver in a purpose-built enclosure, the ferrite-motor CMB8.S4 (500W RMS) trades some of that weight saving for significantly higher output headroom.
