Head Units – Road Glide 1998–2014

Head Units for the Classic 1998 to 2013 Harley-Davidson Road Glide®

Road Glide head units in this collection replace the factory radio in the classic frame-mounted Sharknose fairing on the 1998 to 2013 Road Glide®. This platform never had a factory multimedia system, so a modern head unit is one of the biggest upgrades you can make to the front of the bike. The SoundStream WHD.RG and WHD.9813 are dedicated plug-and-play units for this dash, adding wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on a bright touchscreen.

Each unit includes internal speaker-level amplification for a compatible non-amplified speaker system, plus RCA pre-outs for an aftermarket amplifier. Those RCA pre-outs give a cleaner amplifier connection than high-level speaker outputs, which matters on any Road Glide build where an amplifier is part of the plan. The Sharknose fairing has real depth constraints, so units with deep mounting or protruding rear connectors can need an extension bracket, and MAA notes mounting-depth compatibility for each unit.

Why You'll Love It

  • SoundStream WHD.RG: a wireless CarPlay and Android Auto head unit built specifically for the 1998 to 2013 Road Glide® Sharknose dash.
  • SoundStream WHD.9813: wireless CarPlay for the wider 1998 to 2013 Touring range, if your build spans platforms.
  • A genuine multimedia upgrade: these bikes had no factory touchscreen, so CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and USB are a step change, not a refresh.
  • Amplifier-ready: RCA pre-outs feed an aftermarket amp cleanly, while the internal amplification runs a non-amplified speaker system on its own.
  • Depth-aware fitment: mounting-depth compatibility noted per unit for the tight Sharknose fairing.

FAQ

Will a head unit fit the classic Sharknose Road Glide dash?

Yes. The WHD.RG is built for the 1998 to 2013 Road Glide® dash. The Sharknose fairing has limited depth, so a unit with deep mounting or protruding connectors may need an extension bracket. Check the mounting-depth note on each unit.

Do I need a separate amplifier?

Not necessarily. Each unit has internal amplification that runs a compatible non-amplified speaker system, and RCA pre-outs for an aftermarket amp when you upgrade. The RCA pre-outs give a cleaner amplifier connection than high-level outputs. See the classic Road Glide amplifiers.

Is this a plug-and-play install?

These SoundStream units are designed for the factory dash location with the supplied harness and mounting hardware. The mounting kit and wiring adapter come as part of the head unit package rather than separately.

Should I fit the head unit and amplifier at the same time?

Often yes, so the wiring is done once and the RCA pre-outs feed the amp from the start. Tell us your speakers and amp plan and we will advise the right sequence.
