Head Units – Road Glide 2015–2023
Head Units for the 2015 to 2023 Harley-Davidson Road Glide®
The 2015 to 2023 Road Glide® runs the factory Boom! Box radio integrated into the Sharknose fairing, combining navigation, infotainment and audio on a touchscreen. That gives you two upgrade paths. You can replace the factory unit with a wireless CarPlay and Android Auto head unit such as the SoundStream HDHU.V2 or WHD14+, or you can retain the Boom! Box and add an amplifier behind it. Both are common, and the right one depends on your current unit and what you want the system to do.
If you replace the head unit, each SoundStream unit includes internal speaker-level amplification for a non-amplified speaker system, plus front, rear and subwoofer RCA pre-outs for an aftermarket amplifier. The Sharknose integration is tighter than on the batwing, with extra connector positions, navigation antenna routing and display mounting to account for. Where you keep the factory Boom! Box on a WHD.14-series build, the WHD.UNLOC kit retains the factory Boom! amplifier and adds gauges and thumb control.
Why You'll Love It
- SoundStream HDHU.V2: an 8.3 inch wireless CarPlay and Android Auto head unit that matches the factory footprint closely.
- SoundStream WHD14+: a compact 7 inch wireless CarPlay and Android Auto option for the same dash.
- Two clear paths: replace the head unit for CarPlay, or keep the Boom! Box and amplify it, whichever suits your goals and budget.
- Amplifier-ready: front, rear and subwoofer RCA pre-outs on the replacement units, with internal amplification for a non-amplified system.
- WHD.UNLOC integration: retains the factory Boom! Stage 1, Stage 2 and HD Audio amplifiers on a WHD14+ build, and adds digital gauges and thumb control.
FAQ
Should I replace the Boom! Box or keep it and add an amplifier?
Both work. Keep the Boom! Box and add an amp if the factory unit is in good order and you mainly want more output. Replace it with a SoundStream CarPlay unit if you want wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Tell us your goals and we will advise.
Do the replacement head units fit the Sharknose fairing?
Yes, with the supplied harness and mounting hardware, though the Sharknose integration is tighter than the batwing. Confirm your exact year and model with MAA before ordering.
Do I need a separate amplifier?
Not necessarily. The replacement units have internal amplification for a non-amplified speaker system and RCA pre-outs for an aftermarket amp. Bikes with a factory external amplifier may need integration hardware. See the Road Glide amplifiers.
What does the WHD.UNLOC kit do?
On a WHD14+ build, the WHD.UNLOC kit retains the factory Boom! Stage 1, Stage 2 and HD Audio amplifiers and adds real-time digital gauges and advanced thumb control. Check the product page for the exact part for your setup.
