The original horn coaxial for the 2014–2023 Harley Touring fairing.
The Cicada Audio CH65.2C is the Larry Frederick Classic 6.5-inch horn coaxial — a purpose-built 6.5-inch upgrade driver for the 2014–2023 Harley-Davidson® batwing Touring fairing and the 2015–2023 Road Glide® fairing. 250W RMS, 96.4 dB sensitivity, aluminium horn tweeter dome, Black Coat™ OFC mid-bass voice coil, N35SH neodymium motor, and an external 12 dB crossover in a die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™. Sold in pairs.
The horn coaxial is a different approach to the same problem every motorcycle audio builder faces: how to get high-output, high-clarity sound from a fixed factory speaker position. Where a conventional coaxial uses a dome tweeter with a dispersion guide, the CH65.2C loads an aluminium tweeter dome into a horn waveguide — a design that delivers significantly higher sensitivity than a conventional driver. At 96.4 dB, the CH65.2C extracts more volume from every watt of amplifier power than a standard 91 dB coaxial. That efficiency advantage is audible at highway speed.
Who This Speaker Is For
For riders building around the horn coaxial character — higher sensitivity, more projected treble, and the output levels that come from 250W RMS in a 96.4 dB driver. The CH65.2C is the Larry Frederick Classic design in its 2Ω configuration, correct for dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifiers including the FLX700.4 and FLX1000.4. For bridged amplifier configurations or builds where a 4Ω load is preferred, the CH65.4C is the 4Ω variant.
What This Is Best For
- High-sensitivity fairing builds on 2014–2023 Street Glide® or 2015–2023 Road Glide® — 96.4 dB from a 6.5-inch fairing driver delivers output headroom that a lower-sensitivity driver cannot reach at the same amplifier power. For builds where maximum SPL at highway speed is the brief, the sensitivity advantage of the CH65.2C is measurable and audible.
- High-output builds running the FLX1000.4 or FLX700.4 at full rated output — 250W RMS power handling at 96.4 dB sensitivity means the CH65.2C is built for the output levels these amplifiers produce. The driver keeps up where lower-power-rated speakers begin to limit the system.
- Riders who want the horn tweeter character — the horn-loaded aluminium tweeter delivers a more projected, presence-forward treble compared to a dome tweeter. For riders who have listened to horn systems and prefer that character, the CH65.2C is the horn coaxial option for these fairings.
- Fairing upgrades on 2014–2023 Harley Touring models — 6.5 inch is the upgrade size these fairings accept. On CVO™ and higher-specification factory audio packages of this era it is also the factory driver size; on most standard models the factory driver was 5.25 inch. A 0.5-inch spacer is included for models that need the extra depth. Confirm the mounting hardware and depth for your exact model and audio package before ordering.
Before You Order — Factory Speaker Size, Then Impedance
Check your factory speaker size first — 6.5" is the upgrade size, not necessarily the factory size. On 2014–2023 batwing Touring and 2015–2023 Road Glide®, the factory fairing driver was 5.25 inch on most standard models and 6.5 inch on some CVO™ and higher-specification factory audio packages. Either way these fairings accept a purpose-built 6.5-inch driver, which is what the CH65.2C is — the upgrade does not require the factory driver to have been 6.5 inch. Harley published no fairing speaker size at all for the FLHXS and FLTRXS Special models from 2016 to 2023, so on those bikes confirm the driver on the bike rather than assuming a size.
The CH65.2C is a 2Ω speaker. Choose the 2Ω version when running a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier in stereo — this is where the CH65.2C delivers its full rated output. For bridged amplifier configurations where a minimum 4Ω load is required, the CH65.4C (4Ω) is the correct choice.
The Bottom Line
250W RMS and 96.4 dB sensitivity in a purpose-built 6.5-inch horn coaxial for the 2014–2023 Harley Touring fairing — the Larry Frederick Classic design in its 2Ω configuration.
Ready to upgrade? Add to cart above. For the 4Ω variant, the CH65.4C is the same speaker at 4Ω. For a larger-format horn coaxial in a custom position, the CH69.2W is the 6×9 version.
What’s Inside the CH65.2C
The tweeter is an aluminium dome in a horn waveguide — the defining element of the CH65 Classic. Horn loading increases the efficiency of the tweeter element significantly: the horn waveguide couples the dome’s output to the air more effectively than a free-air dome, which is why the CH65.2C measures 96.4 dB sensitivity against a typical 91 dB for a dome tweeter coaxial. The aluminium dome itself delivers a bright, extended, low-distortion high-frequency response — harder and more projected in character than a soft dome or PEI dome. On the road: presence-forward treble that cuts through wind and engine noise at highway speed.
The mid-bass cone is water resistant treated paper — lightweight, thermally stable, and efficiently coupled to the motor. Paper cones produce a fast, responsive, efficient mid-bass character. The 1.4-inch / 36mm tweeter voice coil is wound with OFC copper wire for low resistance and thermal stability. The 2-inch / 51mm mid-bass voice coil uses Black Coat™ OFC copper — Cicada’s high-conductivity, thermally optimised winding treatment that reduces resistance and handles the thermal load of sustained 250W RMS operation. On the road: consistent mid-bass output without thermal compression across a long riding day.
The motor is an N35SH neodymium — H-grade temperature rating for sustained thermal stability. The die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™ provides structural rigidity and active thermal management, channelling airflow through the motor to control heat build-up at high output levels.
The external 12 dB crossover is custom-tooled, vented, and encased — mounted outside the main driver assembly and protected from weather and vibration. The crossover point sits at 4 kHz, where the horn tweeter takes over from the mid-bass cone with a 12 dB/octave slope.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
At 96.4 dB (1W/1m), the CH65.2C is significantly more sensitive than a standard motorcycle coaxial. The practical effect is measurable: a 5 dB sensitivity advantage over a 91 dB speaker means the CH65.2C requires approximately one-third the amplifier power to produce the same SPL — or produces substantially more output at the same power level. On a Harley at highway speed where every decibel matters, that difference is not subtle.
Frequency response runs 75 Hz – 20 kHz (±5 dB) — the natural operating range for a 6.5-inch coaxial horn covering mid and high frequencies. In a system with a dedicated subwoofer or mid-bass channel handling the low end, the CH65.2C fills its frequency responsibility with the output level that makes it audible over the riding environment.
Why 2Ω — Amplifier Pairing
Dedicated motorcycle amplifiers including the FLX700.4 and FLX1000.4 publish their rated output at 2Ω. At 250W RMS power capacity, the CH65.2C is built for exactly those operating conditions — extracting full rated output from the amplifier into a speaker capable of handling it. For bridged configurations requiring a 4Ω minimum load, or conservative builds where amplifier thermal margin is a priority, the CH65.4C (4Ω) is the correct impedance choice.
Fitment
- A purpose-built 6.5-inch driver for the 2014–2023 Harley-Davidson® batwing Touring fairing and the 2015–2023 Road Glide® fairing. 0.5-inch spacer included for models where additional depth is required.
- Harley-Davidson Street Glide® (2014–2023): Inner fairing. The factory driver here was 5.25 inch on most standard models and 6.5 inch on some CVO™ and higher-specification factory audio packages.
- Harley-Davidson Road Glide® (2015–2023): Inner fairing. There was no 2014 model-year Road Glide® — the generations are 1998–2013, 2015–2023 and 2024 onward.
- Harley-Davidson Electra Glide® / Ultra Limited (2014–2023): Inner fairing, and Tour-Pak pods where fitted — OEM Tour-Pak pods take up to a 6.5-inch driver, and the factory driver in this era was 5.25 inch.
- Harley-Davidson CVO™ models (2014–2023): Inner fairing. This is the tier where a 6.5-inch fairing driver was actually fitted at the factory on some models and audio packages.
- Speaker-ready or accessory lower fairings: Take a 6.5-inch driver where fitted. The lower fairing is not a factory speaker position on standard models.
- Not scoped to 2024 onward (Skyline OS). Those fairings use redesigned enclosures and mounting, so fitment from the 2014–2023 generation must not be assumed. On that platform the standard Street Glide® (FLHX) and Road Glide® (FLTRX) run two 5.25-inch fairing drivers with no factory rear position, while Limited and CVO™ run 6.5 inch.
- Confirm the mounting hardware, cutout and depth for your exact model and factory audio package before ordering. Harley does not publish a fairing mounting-opening dimension, so bracket and grille hardware can vary between models and audio packages.
- Mounting Depth: 76 mm (3.0 in). Mounting Diameter (cutout): 145.5 mm (5.7 in).
- Requires a dedicated external amplifier rated at 2Ω — FLX700.4, FLX1000.4, and other 2Ω-stable motorcycle amplifiers.
