The Larry Frederick Classic horn — built for bridged and conservative builds.

The Cicada Audio CH65.4C is the Larry Frederick Classic 6.5-inch horn coaxial in 4Ω — a purpose-built 6.5-inch upgrade driver for the 2014–2023 Harley-Davidson® batwing Touring fairing and the 2015–2023 Road Glide® fairing. 250W RMS, 96.4 dB sensitivity, aluminium horn tweeter dome, Black Coat™ OFC mid-bass voice coil, N35SH neodymium motor, and an external 12 dB crossover in a die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™. Sold in pairs.

The CH65.4C shares every construction element with the CH65.2C — the same Larry Frederick Classic horn design, the same 96.4 dB sensitivity, the same 250W RMS power handling. The difference is impedance: the 4Ω version presents a higher electrical load to the amplifier, which means lower current demand, more thermal margin, and compatibility with bridged amplifier configurations. For builds where the amplifier is running bridged, or where conservative system design is the priority, the CH65.4C is the correct impedance choice.

Who This Speaker Is For

For riders who want the Larry Frederick Classic horn coaxial in a 4Ω configuration — bridged amplifier builds, conservative system designs where amplifier thermal margin matters, or multi-speaker installs where reducing total current demand on the system is a design constraint. For the standard stereo 2Ω configuration that extracts maximum power from a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier, the CH65.2C is the 2Ω variant.

What This Is Best For

  • Bridged amplifier configurations on 2014–2023 Street Glide® or 2015–2023 Road Glide® — when front channels are bridged for higher per-channel output, the CH65.4C satisfies the 4Ω minimum load requirement on amplifiers including the FLX700.4 and FLX500.4. Pair bridged output with the CH65.4C’s 250W RMS handling and gain structure accordingly.
  • Conservative builds where amplifier thermal margin is a priority — a 4Ω speaker draws less current from the amplifier at the same output level than a 2Ω speaker. In a compact fairing environment where the amplifier is running hard across multiple speaker positions, the 4Ω impedance on every driver reduces thermal build-up across the whole system.
  • Uniform 4Ω horn builds across all positions — the CH65.4C pairs naturally with the CH69.4W for builds where consistent 4Ω impedance across every horn speaker position is the design goal.
  • Riders who prefer the horn character and need 4Ω — the horn tweeter’s sensitivity advantage and treble projection are the same regardless of impedance. Riders who want the CH65 sound in a 4Ω system don’t need to compromise on speaker performance to get it.

Before You Order — Factory Speaker Size, Then Impedance

Check your factory speaker size first — 6.5" is the upgrade size, not necessarily the factory size. On 2014–2023 batwing Touring and 2015–2023 Road Glide®, the factory fairing driver was 5.25 inch on most standard models and 6.5 inch on some CVO™ and higher-specification factory audio packages. Either way these fairings accept a purpose-built 6.5-inch driver, which is what the CH65.4C is — the upgrade does not require the factory driver to have been 6.5 inch. Harley published no fairing speaker size at all for the FLHXS and FLTRXS Special models from 2016 to 2023, so on those bikes confirm the driver on the bike rather than assuming a size.

The CH65.4C is a 4Ω speaker. Choose the 4Ω version for bridged amplifier configurations, conservative system designs where amplifier thermal margin matters, or when the amplifier already delivers sufficient power at 4Ω. For maximum output from a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier in stereo, the CH65.2C (2Ω) is the correct choice.

The Bottom Line

The Larry Frederick Classic horn coaxial — 250W RMS, 96.4 dB, a purpose-built 6.5-inch driver for the 2014–2023 Harley Touring fairing — in the 4Ω configuration for bridged and conservative builds.

Ready to upgrade? Add to cart above. For the 2Ω variant, the CH65.2C is the same speaker at 2Ω. For a larger-format horn coaxial in a custom position, the CH69.4W is the 6×9 version in 4Ω.

What’s Inside the CH65.4C

The CH65.4C is identical in construction to the CH65.2C — the only difference between the two variants is impedance. All construction notes below apply equally to both versions.

The tweeter is an aluminium dome in a horn waveguide — the defining element of the Larry Frederick Classic design. Horn loading couples the dome’s output to the air more efficiently than a free-air dome, which is why the CH65.4C measures 96.4 dB sensitivity. The aluminium dome delivers bright, extended, low-distortion high-frequency response. On the road: presence-forward treble that projects clearly through wind and engine noise at highway speed.

The mid-bass cone is water resistant treated paper — lightweight, thermally stable, and efficiently coupled to the motor. The 2-inch / 51mm Black Coat™ OFC copper mid-bass voice coil handles the thermal load of sustained 250W RMS operation with high conductivity and low resistance. The 1.4-inch / 36mm OFC copper tweeter voice coil completes the signal path with minimal thermal compromise.

The motor is an N35SH neodymium — H-grade temperature rating for sustained thermal stability. The 4Ω impedance means the motor operates with lower current demand from the amplifier, adding thermal margin across both the driver and the amplifier stage. The die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™ provides structural rigidity and active airflow management through the motor assembly.

The external 12 dB crossover is custom-tooled, vented, and encased — mounted separately from the driver, protected from weather and vibration, with the crossover point at 4 kHz.

Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage

At 96.4 dB (1W/1m), the CH65.4C delivers the sensitivity that makes the horn coaxial format worthwhile in a motorcycle application. The 4Ω impedance means the amplifier runs at higher efficiency and lower current draw — in a multi-speaker build where the amplifier is driving front and rear positions simultaneously, the 4Ω impedance on every driver meaningfully reduces the total current demand on the system.

Frequency response runs 75 Hz – 20 kHz (±5 dB). In a system with a dedicated sub or mid-bass channel handling the low end, the CH65.4C fills its frequency responsibility at output levels that remain audible over the riding environment.

Why 4Ω — Bridged Amps and Thermal Margin

A 4Ω speaker presents a higher electrical load to the amplifier than a 2Ω speaker — lower current demand, less heat generated by the amplifier, and more tolerance for wiring impedance. For bridged amplifier configurations — where two amplifier channels are combined to drive a speaker pair at higher per-channel output — the 4Ω load satisfies the minimum impedance requirement on most amplifiers including the FLX500.4 and FLX700.4. For stereo installs at the amp’s rated 2Ω output, the CH65.2C is the matching choice.

Fitment

  • A purpose-built 6.5-inch driver for the 2014–2023 Harley-Davidson® batwing Touring fairing and the 2015–2023 Road Glide® fairing. 0.5-inch spacer included for models where additional depth is required.
  • Harley-Davidson Street Glide® (2014–2023): Inner fairing. The factory driver here was 5.25 inch on most standard models and 6.5 inch on some CVO™ and higher-specification factory audio packages.
  • Harley-Davidson Road Glide® (2015–2023): Inner fairing. There was no 2014 model-year Road Glide® — the generations are 1998–2013, 2015–2023 and 2024 onward.
  • Harley-Davidson Electra Glide® / Ultra Limited (2014–2023): Inner fairing, and Tour-Pak pods where fitted — OEM Tour-Pak pods take up to a 6.5-inch driver, and the factory driver in this era was 5.25 inch.
  • Harley-Davidson CVO™ models (2014–2023): Inner fairing. This is the tier where a 6.5-inch fairing driver was actually fitted at the factory on some models and audio packages.
  • Speaker-ready or accessory lower fairings: Take a 6.5-inch driver where fitted. The lower fairing is not a factory speaker position on standard models.
  • Not scoped to 2024 onward (Skyline OS). Those fairings use redesigned enclosures and mounting, so fitment from the 2014–2023 generation must not be assumed. On that platform the standard Street Glide® (FLHX) and Road Glide® (FLTRX) run two 5.25-inch fairing drivers with no factory rear position, while Limited and CVO™ run 6.5 inch.
  • Confirm the mounting hardware, cutout and depth for your exact model and factory audio package before ordering. Harley does not publish a fairing mounting-opening dimension, so bracket and grille hardware can vary between models and audio packages.
  • Mounting Depth: 76 mm (3.0 in). Mounting Diameter (cutout): 145.5 mm (5.7 in).
  • Compatible with 4Ω-rated amplifiers including bridged configurations — FLX500.4, FLX700.4, and other 4Ω-stable motorcycle amplifiers.
