The PRO horn for 1998–2013 Street Glide and Road Glide front fairing positions.
The Cicada Audio CHX525.2 is a 5.25-inch 2Ω PRO coaxial horn speaker — 150W RMS, 91 dB sensitivity, aluminium horn tweeter with Nanofram™ all-weather horn cover, Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) mid-bass cone, Black Coat™ OFC 1.75-inch mid-bass voice coil, N35SH neodymium motor, tweeter attenuation (-3/-6 dB), and an external 12 dB crossover in a die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™. Designed for 1998–2013 Street Glide and Road Glide front fairing speaker positions. Sold in pairs.
The CHX525.2 is the PRO series horn coaxial for the front fairing speaker position on 1998–2013 Street Glide and Road Glide — the 5.25-inch cutout that predates the larger factory opening introduced with the 2014 models. Where the CHX65.2 fits 2014+ H-D factory locations, the CHX525.2 fits the earlier position: Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone, Nanofram™ Horn Cover for all-weather protection, 150W RMS power handling, and 91 dB horn efficiency in the direct-fit format those models require.
Who This Speaker Is For
For riders on 1998–2013 Street Glide and Road Glide who want PRO series construction — CMC™ cone, horn-loaded tweeter efficiency, and all-weather Nanofram™ protection — in the front fairing position their bike requires. The CHX525.2 is the 2Ω version, correct for dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifiers in stereo. For bridged configurations or 4Ω builds, the CHX525.4 is the 4Ω variant.
What This Is Best For
- Front fairing speaker positions on 1998–2013 Street Glide and Road Glide — direct-fit for the 5.25-inch factory cutout on these models. CMC™ cone, horn-loaded tweeter, and Nanofram™ all-weather protection in the format the fairing position actually accommodates.
- Upgrading pre-2014 Touring models to PRO horn construction — riders on older Street Glide or Road Glide builds who want the CMC™ PRO series upgrade in the factory fairing location, paired with an external amplifier for real output.
- Full PRO horn front stage on pre-2014 Touring — the CHX525.2 is the correct front fairing speaker to pair with a CHX69.2 saddlebag lid rear stage on older Street Glide and Road Glide builds.
- Custom enclosure builds sized for 5.25-inch drivers — any custom-fabricated or aftermarket speaker position designed around the CHX525.2's 4.66-inch mounting diameter and 2.75-inch depth.
⚠ Crossover Setting — Read Before Installing
Set your high-pass crossover to 120 Hz minimum at 24 dB/oct slope before powering the CHX525.2. Horn coaxial drivers reach their mechanical travel limit (XMAX) at low frequencies — crossing over too low causes over-excursion. The damage is mechanical: tinsel lead connections tear from the voice coil/spider assembly as the cone overextends. This is not a power problem. It is a crossover problem.
2Ω vs 4Ω — Choosing the Right Version
The CHX525.2 is a 2Ω speaker. Choose the 2Ω version when running a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier in stereo. For bridged amplifier configurations requiring a 4Ω minimum load, the CHX525.4 (4Ω) is the correct choice.
The Bottom Line
150W RMS, 91 dB, 5.25-inch PRO horn coaxial with CMC™ cone, Nanofram™ all-weather cover, and tweeter attenuation — the PRO series choice for 5.25-inch speaker positions.
Ready to upgrade? Add to cart above. For the 4Ω variant, the CHX525.4 is the same speaker at 4Ω. For a 6.5-inch PRO horn in 2014+ H-D factory fairing positions, the CHX65.2 is the larger-format option.
What's Inside the CHX525.2
The tweeter is an aluminium dome in a horn waveguide, protected by the Nanofram™ Horn Cover — Cicada's all-weather horn enclosure for exposed positions. The removable threaded horn ring allows replacement or modification. Horn loading delivers 91 dB sensitivity from the aluminium dome driver. The 1.0-inch / 25.4mm OFC copper tweeter voice coil provides efficient signal conversion with low thermal mass suited to the 5.25-inch format. On the road: projected, present treble from a smaller driver position that contributes meaningfully to system presence where a non-horn-loaded tweeter would struggle to carry over ambient noise.
The mid-bass cone is Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) — lightweight, rigid, and thermally stable. The 1.75-inch / 44mm Black Coat™ OFC copper mid-bass voice coil handles sustained 150W RMS. In the 5.25-inch format, the CMC™ cone's rigidity is particularly relevant: a stiffer cone maintains its behaviour more consistently near its limits than treated paper, keeping the driver's character predictable at the power levels available from this format. On the road: consistent mid-range character from the 5.25-inch position across extended riding.
The motor is an N35SH neodymium with H-grade temperature rating. The die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™ channels airflow for thermal management. The tweeter attenuation of -3 or -6 dB allows balancing the horn tweeter's output against the mid-bass in the specific acoustic environment the speaker occupies.
The external 12 dB crossover is custom-tooled, vented, and encased, with the tweeter attenuation resistor heat-sink encased separately.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
At 91 dB (1W/1m) and 150W RMS, the CHX525.2 delivers the output level available from the 5.25-inch format with PRO series efficiency. The horn-loaded tweeter's sensitivity advantage over a dome-tweeter design in the same position is the primary performance characteristic that makes the CHX525 relevant in multi-speaker builds. Frequency response runs 90 Hz – 20 kHz (±5 dB).
Why 2Ω — Amplifier Pairing
At 2Ω, the CHX525.2 extracts full rated output from any 2Ω-stable motorcycle amplifier. At 150W RMS capacity, the CHX525.2 is well within the operating range of the FLX amplifier range at 2Ω stereo. For bridged configurations, the CHX525.4 satisfies the 4Ω minimum load requirement.
Fitment
