The 4Ω CHX525PRO for bridged amplifier channels – 300W horn coaxials for 1998–2013 Harley-Davidson® and 2014+ Indian® fairings

The Cicada Audio CHX525.4PRO is a 5.25-inch 4Ω coaxial with a horn-loaded aluminium tweeter, rated at 300W RMS (600W peak) with 92dB sensitivity. A Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone, N45SH neodymium motor and vented diecast basket carry the power, and a Nanofram™ cover protects the horn. External 12dB crossovers with –3dB and –6dB tweeter attenuation are included. Sold as a pair.

The 4Ω load is the difference from the CHX525.2PRO. It's what lets two amplifier channels be bridged into each speaker, and it keeps the current draw lower on a four-channel amp running a full system. Compared with the original CHX525.4, which is still available, the PRO is rated for 300W RMS instead of 150W. It uses an N45SH motor, a flat-wound copper voice coil on a TIL former, a vented basket and a cloth surround, and comes with a 3-year warranty. Its published mounting diameter is larger, so check it against your fairing.

Who This Is For

Riders driving the front pair from bridged channels, which is the usual way to get serious power from a compact four-channel amp when only two speakers need it. It also suits builders who want every speaker on the bike at 4Ω for lower current draw and more thermal margin. The fitment is the same as its 2Ω sibling: 1998–2013 Harley batwing and sharknose fairings, and Indian® Chieftain®, Roadmaster®, Challenger® and Pursuit® from 2014 on. If your amp will run one speaker per channel at 2Ω, the CHX525.2PRO gets more from it.

What This Is Best For

  • Bridged front channels – bridge a four-channel amp into two channels and each speaker sees a single high-power output. The FLX700.4 bridges to 350W × 2 into 4Ω, and the FLX700.4PRO adds DSP on the same output stage. That is a close match for this speaker's 300W RMS rating.
  • A four-speaker system at 4Ω – the FLX2000.4 makes 331W × 4 into 4Ω in stereo, so front and rear 4Ω speakers can each get full power without the amp working at 2Ω.
  • Lower current and heat – at a given voltage, a 4Ω load draws roughly half the current of a 2Ω load. On an older charging system, or a build with several amps, that margin is worth having.
  • Horn clarity over wind – 92dB sensitivity and a horn-loaded tweeter lift vocals above road noise, with –3dB or –6dB attenuation available if the horn is too forward.

Set the High-Pass Before You Power Up

Run the CHX525.4PRO behind a high-pass filter set to 120Hz minimum at 24dB per octave. A horn coaxial this size reaches its excursion limit quickly below that point, and the damage from crossing too low is mechanical, not thermal: the cone over-travels and the tinsel leads tear. If your amplifier only offers a 12dB-per-octave filter, set the frequency higher to get comparable protection.

Bridging and the 4Ω Rule

When two amplifier channels are bridged into one speaker, each channel sees half the speaker's impedance. A 4Ω speaker therefore loads each channel at 2Ω, the lowest most Class-D motorcycle amps are rated for, so bridged builds need a 4Ω speaker. If you run one speaker per channel in stereo on a 2Ω-stable amp instead, the CHX525.2PRO draws more power from each channel. When in doubt, tell us the amp and how it's wired and we'll confirm the right version.

The Bottom Line

The CHX525.4PRO is the CHX525PRO for bridged channels and all-4Ω builds: 300W of horn-loaded output for a pre-2014 Harley or a modern Indian® fairing, at a load that keeps the amp comfortable. For a matched system, the System Builder will take your model and year and price the whole setup.

What's Inside the CHX525.4PRO

The N45SH neodymium motor drives a 38.1mm (1.5") voice coil of flat-wound copper on a TIL composite former, sealed in Black Coat™ high-temperature thermoset resin. Flat wire fills the magnetic gap more densely than round wire, and the SH grade magnet holds its strength as temperature climbs. On the road: after an hour at highway volume in a closed fairing, the speaker still has the control it had at the first set of lights.

The Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) cone is light and stiff and handles high temperatures. It sits on a low-profile cloth surround that reacts faster than a heavy rubber roll. On the road: bass lines stay defined rather than smeared when the amp is pushing hard.

The Vortex Flow Venting™ diecast aluminium basket moves air past the coil on every stroke. On the road: cooling that scales with how hard you are playing it.

The horn-loaded aluminium tweeter is protected by a Nanofram™ horn cover and sits on a removable threaded flange that can be modified. The Rain or Shine Pro™ construction resists UV and moisture. On the road: rain and road spray are kept off the tweeter without muffling it.

Why 4Ω

Impedance sets how much current a speaker asks of the amplifier. A 4Ω speaker draws less than a 2Ω speaker at the same voltage, and when a speaker is bridged across two channels, each channel sees half its impedance. The 4Ω rating is what makes bridging safe on 2Ω-stable amps such as the FLX700.4 (350W × 2 bridged). In stereo, it lets an amp like the FLX2000.4 (331W × 4 at 4Ω) run four speakers without working at its lowest load.

Crossover and Tuning

An external 12dB-per-octave crossover splits each speaker's signal at 4kHz, in a custom-tooled, vented housing with a heatsink-encased resistor for the –3dB and –6dB tweeter settings. The amplifier's high-pass filter protects the cone from deep bass: set it at 120Hz or higher at 24dB per octave.

Mounting

Mounting depth is 67mm (2.64") and the published mounting diameter is 144mm (5.67"). Cicada lists the CHX525PRO for 1998–2013 Harley-Davidson fairings and 2014+ Indian® fairings.
