400W RMS. The 8-inch PRO horn coaxial for serious custom Harley builds.
The Cicada Audio CHX8.2 is an 8-inch 2Ω PRO coaxial horn speaker — 400W RMS, 92 dB sensitivity, aluminium horn tweeter with Nanofram™ all-weather horn cover, repairable CHT175 1.75-inch tweeter voice coil, Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) mid-bass cone, Black Coat™ OFC 2.5-inch mid-bass voice coil, N35SH neodymium motor, tweeter attenuation (-3/-6 dB), and an external 12 dB crossover in a die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™. Built for custom enclosure positions on Harley-Davidson Touring. Sold in pairs.
The CHX8.2 shares the horn coaxial architecture of the CH8.2W — same Nanofram™ Horn Cover, same N35SH motor, same die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™ — with the construction upgrades of the PRO series: Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone in place of treated paper, a 1.75-inch tweeter voice coil with repairable CHT175 construction, and 400W RMS power handling. At 92 dB sensitivity and 46 Hz – 20 kHz frequency response, the CHX8.2 extends deeper and handles more sustained power than its CH counterpart — built for custom positions where the install is permanent and the output demands are real.
Who This Speaker Is For
For riders building custom 8-inch enclosures who want PRO series construction — CMC™ cone, repairable tweeter voice coils, and 400W RMS headroom — over the standard CH8.2W. The CHX8.2 is the 2Ω version, correct for dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifiers in stereo. For bridged configurations or builds preferring 4Ω, the CHX8.4 is the 4Ω variant.
What This Is Best For
- Custom saddlebag lid enclosures on Street Glide, Road Glide, and Ultra builds — purpose-built saddlebag lid enclosures sized for an 8-inch driver give the CHX8.2 the box volume to realise its 46 Hz low-end extension. The CMC™ cone handles the mechanical demands of sustained 400W RMS output without the thermal degradation a paper cone can exhibit under load.
- Tour-Pak speaker panels on Ultra Classic, Ultra Limited, or Tri Glide — custom fabricated Tour-Pak lid panels sized to the CHX8.2's mounting requirements. 400W RMS at 92 dB from a Tour-Pak position gives the rear stage the output authority to match a high-output front fairing stage at highway speed.
- Full PRO horn system builds — pairing CHX8.2 rear with CHX65.2 front gives the complete system consistent CMC™ PRO horn character across every position.
- Builds stepping up from the CH8.2W — riders who want CMC™ cone construction, repairable tweeter voice coils, and 150W RMS of additional headroom from the same 8-inch format and footprint.
⚠ Crossover Setting — Read Before Installing
Set your high-pass crossover to 90 Hz minimum at 24 dB/oct slope before powering the CHX8.2. Horn coaxial drivers reach their mechanical travel limit (XMAX) at low frequencies — crossing over too low causes over-excursion. The damage is mechanical: tinsel lead connections tear from the voice coil/spider assembly as the cone overextends. This is not a power problem. It is a crossover problem.
If pairing with a 10-inch pro mid-bass in a bag divider enclosure: the limited air space of the bag divider requires a higher crossover setting. Set the CHX8.2 to 250 Hz at 24 dB/oct on DSP, or 300 Hz at 12 dB/oct on any amplifier. Any lower crossover point will cause distortion and driver damage.
2Ω vs 4Ω — Choosing the Right Version
The CHX8.2 is a 2Ω speaker. Choose the 2Ω version when running a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier in stereo — the FLX1400.4 and FLX2000.4 publish their rated output at 2Ω, which is where the CHX8.2 delivers its full 400W RMS capacity. For bridged amplifier configurations requiring a 4Ω minimum load, the CHX8.4 (4Ω) is the correct choice.
The Bottom Line
400W RMS, 92 dB, 8-inch PRO horn coaxial with CMC™ cone, repairable CHT175 tweeter, Nanofram™ all-weather cover, and tweeter attenuation — for custom enclosure builds where the CH8.2W's 250W and treated paper are not enough.
Ready to upgrade? Add to cart above. For the 4Ω variant, the CHX8.4 is the same speaker at 4Ω. For a 6×9 PRO horn in saddlebag lid positions, the CHX69.2 is the 6×9 version in 2Ω.
What's Inside the CHX8.2
The tweeter is an aluminium dome in a horn waveguide, protected by the Nanofram™ Horn Cover — Cicada's all-weather horn enclosure for exposed mounting positions. The removable threaded horn ring allows the cover to be replaced or modified for custom installs. The tweeter voice coil is a 1.75-inch (44mm) OFC copper CHT175 unit — larger than the CH series tweeter coil, and repairable: the CHT175 can be replaced if damaged, extending the service life of the complete driver beyond what a sealed tweeter assembly allows. Horn loading delivers 92 dB sensitivity. On the road: directional high-frequency output from custom positions, with the ability to service the tweeter rather than replace the whole speaker.
The mid-bass cone is Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) — Cicada's proprietary composite material, lighter and more rigid than treated paper with higher temperature resistance. Where a paper cone can soften under sustained thermal load, the CMC™ cone maintains its stiffness and resonant characteristics across extended high-output use. The 2.5-inch / 64mm Black Coat™ OFC copper mid-bass voice coil sustains 400W RMS with the thermal mass and conductivity to match. On the road: consistent mid-bass character throughout a full day of riding at high output — no thermal rolloff as the driver heats up.
The motor is an N35SH neodymium with H-grade temperature rating. The die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™ channels airflow through the motor assembly for active thermal management. The tweeter attenuation of -3 or -6 dB allows balancing the horn tweeter's output against the mid-bass — useful in custom enclosures where the tweeter horn's directivity may concentrate treble at some listening angles more than others.
The external 12 dB crossover is custom-tooled, vented, and encased, with the tweeter attenuation resistor heat-sink encased separately. The crossover mounts outside the driver assembly and speaker enclosure where it remains accessible.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
At 92 dB (1W/1m) and 400W RMS, the CHX8.2 delivers the output ceiling that makes a custom 8-inch rear stage a genuine match for a high-output front stage. Frequency response runs 46 Hz – 20 kHz (±3 dB) — the 8-inch cone's low-end extension reaching meaningfully lower than the CH8.2W's 75 Hz, which means real bass contribution from the rear position rather than fill. The PRO series' 400W RMS handling means the CHX8.2 has headroom above the normal operating range of a standard FLX 4-channel channel in stereo.
Why 2Ω — Amplifier Pairing
At 2Ω, the CHX8.2 extracts full rated output from any 2Ω-stable motorcycle amplifier. The recommended amplifiers for the CHX PRO series — the FLX1400.4 and FLX2000.4 — publish their rated output at 2Ω stereo, the operating condition the CHX8.2 is designed for. For bridged configurations, the CHX8.4 satisfies the 4Ω minimum load requirement. The FLX1000.4 bridged into CHX8.4 at 4Ω is also a supported configuration.
