The fairing deserves a speaker that was actually built for it.
The CX65.2 is Cicada's 6.5" fairing coaxial — a 2Ω full-range driver built for motorcycle audio, with 100W RMS, 94 dB sensitivity, IMPP cone, Black Coat™ voice coil, DPSH® Dual-Phase Slot Horn tweeter, and Rain or Shine™ weatherproof construction. Grills and mounting hardware included. Sold in pairs.
Factory Harley fairing speakers are built to a price point. The CX65.2 is built for the position — specified for the thermal demands of an enclosed fairing in Australian summer heat, the output levels required at highway speed, and the 2Ω impedance the Harley audio ecosystem is designed around.
Who This Speaker Is For
For riders wanting a meaningful fairing upgrade without rebuilding the whole system. The CX65.2 runs directly from a Boom! Box GTS — Harley's own fairing speakers are rated at 1.7Ω and the GTS is designed around that, so the CX65.2 at 2Ω is a direct plug-in improvement. Paired with a dedicated amplifier such as the FLX500.4 or FLX700.4, it's a proper amplified fairing stage. For bridged-amp configurations or a more conservative build, the CX65.4 is the 4Ω variant.
What This Is Best For
- The plug-in upgrade from a stock Boom! Box GTS — same 2Ω impedance as Harley's factory fairing speakers, direct fitment, noticeably more output from the same power thanks to the 94 dB sensitivity. Worthwhile improvement without adding an amplifier straight away, and a solid foundation for an amplified build when you're ready.
- The amplified fairing stage — running the CX65.2 from a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier such as the FLX500.4 or FLX700.4 puts the full 100W RMS to work. This is the straightforward fairing upgrade done properly.
- Riders who want output at highway speed — at 94 dB sensitivity and 100W RMS power handling, the CX65.2 driven by a proper amplifier delivers a substantial step up over factory or generic aftermarket without requiring a multi-way component build.
- The first speaker in a staged build — start here, add CX69.2 saddlebag speakers or a subwoofer later. Step up to the CXX65.2 for Kevlar cone and N45H motor when the build progresses. The Cicada ecosystem is designed to scale.
2Ω vs 4Ω — Choosing the Right Version
The CX65.2 is a 2Ω speaker. The Harley Boom! Box GTS is already built around low-impedance speakers — Harley's own stock fairing speakers are rated at 1.7Ω — and the CX65.2 runs directly from it as a plug-in upgrade. For maximum output, a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier is where it properly comes alive. Most quality Harley-specific amplifiers — including the Cicada FLX500.4 and FLX700.4 — are 2Ω stable. Choose the CX65.4 (4Ω) for bridged amplifier configurations or when a more conservative system with better amplifier thermal margin is the priority.
The Bottom Line
A properly engineered 6.5" fairing coaxial built for the Harley 2Ω ecosystem — 94 dB sensitivity, 100W RMS, IMPP cone, Black Coat™ voice coil, DPSH® tweeter, weatherproof construction, in the same low-profile chassis that fits any 2014+ Harley-Davidson factory 6.5" fairing location. Runs from a Boom! Box GTS straight out of the box. Built for dedicated amplified operation. Grills and mounting hardware included.
Ready to upgrade your fairing stage? Add to cart above. For bridged-amp configurations or a more conservative build, the CX65.4 is the 4Ω variant.
What's Inside the CX65.2
The cone is IMPP (Injected Moulded Polypropylene) — moisture-resistant, dimensionally stable across a wide temperature range, and stiff enough to maintain linear excursion at higher output levels. The NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) surround holds its compliance through cold morning starts and sustained summer heat — unlike foam surrounds, which degrade in outdoor conditions. On the road: the speaker handles a closed fairing in Australian summer heat or a cold morning start without the compliance changes that degrade performance over time.
The 1.4-inch Black Coat™ voice coil carries Cicada's proprietary high-temperature treatment on the former and windings. In an enclosed fairing under sustained load, voice coil temperature is one of the primary failure points for speakers not built for motorcycle audio. The Shortening Ring motor design reduces inductance at high frequencies, keeping distortion low at the top of the mid-bass range and improving the handoff to the tweeter. On the road: cleaner output at volume — the driver handles the upper midrange without the breakdown in control that precedes tweeter overload.
The tweeter is a 1.0-inch PEI dome — chosen for thermal stability and resistance to UV and moisture — loaded by Cicada's DPSH® (Dual-Phase Slot Horn). The DPSH® horn geometry shapes tweeter dispersion for wide coverage. At highway speed, the rider's head position relative to the fairing changes constantly — the DPSH® maintains usable high-frequency energy across a wide listening window rather than a narrow beam that disappears off-axis. On the road: consistent treble coverage whether you're sitting upright at lights or leaning through a corner at speed.
The built-in 6dB crossover protects the tweeter from low-frequency energy without requiring an external crossover unit. The Heavy Duty Injected High Temp Polymer frame and N35 Neodymium motor keep the assembly light and rigid across the operating temperature range.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
At 94 dB (1W/1m), the CX65.2 is meaningfully more efficient than most coaxials in this size class. In a motorcycle system where amplifier output is constrained by the charging system, sensitivity is one of the most valuable specifications a speaker can carry — every additional dB of efficiency is headroom you don't need to generate with more amplifier power. A 94 dB speaker produces the same output as an 88 dB speaker running four times the amplifier power.
Frequency response runs 54 Hz – 20 kHz (±5 dB), covering full-range coaxial coverage suited to the fairing position running full-range or with a high-pass filter. The 54 Hz lower limit gives genuine bass extension for a 6.5-inch driver. For builds also running a rear stage, the CX65.2 pairs cleanly as the front stage, with the CX69.2 covering the lower frequencies from the saddlebags.
Why 2Ω — Power and Output
Harley-Davidson's Touring audio system is built around low-impedance speakers. The stock GTS fairing speakers are rated at 1.7Ω, and the Boom! Box GTS is designed to drive them. The CX65.2 at 2Ω sits within the same design envelope — the correct impedance for the Harley ecosystem, whether the system is stock or amplified.
A 2Ω speaker presents a lower electrical load to the amplifier than a 4Ω speaker. When the amplifier is rated for it, that lower load allows more power delivery — and on a motorcycle competing with wind and road noise at highway speed, that extra power is genuinely useful. An amplifier producing 100W RMS × 4 at 4Ω might produce 175W RMS × 4 at 2Ω from the same hardware. The trade-off is current demand — a 2Ω load asks more from the amplifier, so pairing with an amplifier genuinely rated for 2Ω and a properly done install is important.
