The saddlebag rear stage built for bridged-amp and conservative systems.
The CX69.4 is Cicada's 6×9" saddlebag coaxial – the 4Ω variant of the CX69.2, built for bridged-amp configurations and systems where amplifier thermal margin matters. 125W RMS, 95.5 dB sensitivity, IMPP cone, Black Coat™ voice coil, DPSH® Dual-Phase Slot Horn tweeter, Rain or Shine™ weatherproof. Grills and mounting hardware included. Sold in pairs.
Same acoustic build as the CX69.2. Same IMPP cone, Black Coat™ voice coil, DPSH tweeter, and polymer frame. The 4Ω impedance is what changes – and it determines which amplifier configurations this speaker belongs in.
Who This Speaker Is For
Built for riders running a bridged-amp rear stage – where the amplifier bridges two channels for higher per-channel output, requiring a 4Ω minimum load – or anyone building a more conservative system with better amplifier thermal margin. The CX69.4 requires a dedicated external amplifier. For non-bridged amplified builds where maximum output from a 2Ω-rated amplifier is the goal, the CX69.2 is the 2Ω variant.
What This Is Best For
- Bridged rear stage builds – when the rear amp channels are bridged for higher per-channel output, a 4Ω speaker is the correct load. Amplifiers including the FLX500.4 and FLX700.4 are rated for a minimum 4Ω speaker load when bridged – a 4Ω speaker across the bridged channel pair means each channel effectively works into 2Ω. The CX69.4 is the correct saddlebag speaker for this configuration.
- A more conservative amplified rear stage – 4Ω gives the amplifier more headroom, less heat, and better thermal margin. For long days in hot conditions, or any build where amplifier reliability under load is a priority, 4Ω is the safer choice at the same acoustic result.
- Full four-speaker Touring builds – pairing the CX65.4 in the fairing with the CX69.4 in the saddlebags gives a consistent 4Ω front and rear stage, compatible with a single four-channel amplifier running stereo or bridged on either stage.
- The rear stage in a staged build – fit the CX69.4 now with an amplifier, step up the rear to CXX69.4 Pro-series when the build progresses. The 4Ω impedance is compatible across all FLX amplifier configurations.
4Ω vs 2Ω – Choosing the Right Version
The CX69.4 is a 4Ω speaker – the correct choice for bridged-amp configurations, where the amplifier is rated for a minimum 4Ω speaker load when bridged. A 4Ω speaker across a bridged channel pair means each channel effectively works into 2Ω – the correct bridged load for the FLX500.4, FLX700.4, and most quality amplifiers. A 4Ω load also gives the amplifier more thermal margin in stereo configurations. For maximum output from a 2Ω-stable amplifier running stereo, the CX69.2 (2Ω) delivers more power from the same hardware.
What's Inside the CX69.4
The cone is IMPP (Injected Moulded Polypropylene) – moisture-resistant and thermally stable, suited to the enclosed saddlebag environment where temperatures climb under sustained load. The NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) surround maintains its mechanical compliance through the full temperature range of real riding conditions – from cold morning starts through sustained summer highway running. On the road: the speaker handles the sealed saddlebag environment – heat, vibration, and weather – without the surround degradation that takes out foam-surround speakers over time.
The 1.4-inch Black Coat™ voice coil carries Cicada's proprietary high-temperature treatment on the former and windings. In an enclosed saddlebag under sustained load, voice coil temperature is one of the primary failure points for speakers not built for motorcycle audio. The Shortening Ring in the motor gap reduces inductance at high frequencies, keeping distortion low at the top of the mid-bass range and maintaining a clean handoff to the tweeter. On the road: cleaner output at sustained volume, with the mid-bass staying controlled as power increases rather than compressing and hardening.
The tweeter is a 1.0-inch PEI dome with Neodymium magnet, loaded by Cicada's DPSH (Dual-Phase Slot Horn). From the saddlebag position, the listening axis is already off-centre relative to the rider – the DPSH horn geometry maintains broad high-frequency coverage rather than projecting a narrow beam. The built-in 6dB crossover protects the tweeter from low-frequency excursion without requiring an external crossover. On the road: usable treble detail from the rear regardless of riding position or road speed.
The N35 Neodymium motor and Heavy Duty Injected High Temp Polymer frame complete an assembly designed to run reliably in the mechanical and thermal conditions of a motorcycle saddlebag – vibration, heat, and moisture included.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
At 95.5 dB (1W/1m), the CX69.4 is among the more sensitive coaxials in the 6×9-inch category. On a motorcycle at highway speed, the noise floor is high – a speaker with genuine sensitivity extracts more output from available amplifier power, translating directly to more usable volume at the speeds you're actually riding at.
Frequency response runs 53.6 Hz – 20 kHz (±5 dB). The 6×9-inch cone area moves more air at lower frequencies than a 6.5-inch driver, giving the CX69.4 genuine mid-bass presence. For builds without a dedicated subwoofer, the rear stage carries the low-end responsibility. For full front-and-rear builds, the CX65.4 in the fairing handles the upper frequencies while the CX69.4 reinforces the low end.
Why 4Ω – Bridged Amps and Thermal Margin
When an amplifier runs in bridged mode, it combines two channels to drive a single speaker pair with more power. The trade-off is that each amplifier channel effectively works into half the speaker's impedance – a 4Ω speaker across a bridged channel pair means each channel sees 2Ω. Amplifiers including the Cicada FLX500.4 and FLX700.4 are rated for a minimum 4Ω speaker load when bridged. Running a 2Ω speaker bridged would put each channel at about 1Ω – below safe operating limits. The CX69.4 is the correct saddlebag speaker for any bridged-amp rear stage.
At 4Ω in a standard stereo configuration, the CX69.4 also gives the amplifier more thermal headroom – less current demand, less heat, more margin for sustained operation. For long-distance touring in summer heat, 4Ω is the more conservative choice. For maximum output from a 2Ω-stable amplifier running stereo, the CX69.2 is the higher-output option.
