Cicada Audio CXX4.2 — 4" 2Ω Pro Coaxial Motorcycle Speakers (Pair)
Pro-series 4" for Gold Wing, BMW, and Indian factory positions.
The CXX4.2 is Cicada's Pro-series 4" coaxial — engineered for factory 4-inch speaker positions on Honda Gold Wing, BMW touring, and select Indian Motorcycle models. 100W RMS, 91 dB sensitivity, Kevlar cone, N45H neodymium motor, 0.75-inch PEI dome tweeter, V8™ Dispersion Guide for 360° tweeter projection, and Rain or Shine™ weatherproof construction. Sold in pairs.
Factory 4-inch locations on the Honda Gold Wing, BMW touring range, and select Indian models come with modest OEM drivers. The CXX4.2 replaces them with a fully engineered Pro coaxial: Kevlar cone, N45H neodymium motor, V8™ Dispersion Guide, and a polycarbonate basket built to handle the thermal and UV demands of a motorcycle environment. In a 4-inch chassis, every component decision matters more — there is less room, less cone area, and less thermal mass. The CXX4.2 is built with that constraint in mind, not around it.
Who This Speaker Is For
For riders on Honda Gold Wing, BMW, and select Indian Motorcycle models with factory 4-inch speaker positions who want a genuine Pro-series upgrade rather than a budget OEM replacement. At 2Ω, it is the correct impedance match for dedicated motorcycle amplifiers publishing their rated output at 2Ω. For bridged amplifier configurations or conservative system designs where 4Ω is preferred, the CXX4.4 is the 4Ω variant.
What This Is Best For
- Honda Gold Wing factory speaker positions — a Pro-series replacement for OEM 4-inch positions in the fairing and dash locations, with the full CXX construction package: Kevlar cone, N45H motor, V8™ Dispersion Guide, and Rain or Shine™ weatherproof build in a direct-fit format.
- BMW touring factory 4" positions — compact factory position, modest OEM driver, significant headroom for improvement with a Kevlar-coned, N45H-motored Pro coaxial designed for the thermal and vibration demands of a motorcycle environment.
- Select Indian Motorcycle 4" positions — for Indian models with factory 4-inch speaker locations, the CXX4.2 brings Pro-series build quality to positions that rarely receive the attention of a larger driver.
- Multi-speaker builds requiring consistent Pro-series coverage — for riders who have upgraded the primary fairing and saddlebag positions and want to bring the compact 4-inch locations up to the same specification level. Pairs with CXX65.2 and CXX69.2 for a uniform Pro-series 2Ω build across the entire system.
Requires an External Amplifier
The CXX4.2 is a 2Ω speaker rated at 100W RMS, designed for use with a dedicated 2Ω-rated motorcycle amplifier — including the Cicada FLX500.4, FLX700.4, Rockford Fosgate, Soundstream, and Diamond Audio. Choose the CXX4.4 (4Ω) for bridged amplifier configurations or when a more conservative system with better amplifier thermal margin is the priority.
The Bottom Line
Pro-series construction in a 4-inch format — 100W RMS, Kevlar cone, N45H neodymium motor, and V8™ 360° tweeter projection for factory speaker positions on Honda Gold Wing, BMW, and select Indian Motorcycle models. Requires a dedicated 2Ω-rated external amplifier.
Ready to upgrade? Add to cart above. For bridged amplifier configurations or conservative system designs, the CXX4.4 is the 4Ω variant.
What's Inside the CXX4.2
The cone is Kevlar — a meaningful specification on a 4-inch driver. In a compact format running at 100W RMS, a stiff Kevlar cone maintains shape at the excursion levels this driver is rated for, reducing distortion where a less controlled cone material would begin to break up. Moisture resistance and dimensional stability across temperature complete the case for Kevlar in a motorcycle application. On the road: clean, detailed output at volume rather than the hardening and loss of clarity that comes from a cone working beyond its limits.
The N45H neodymium motor is sized for the chassis — delivering the magnetic flux density needed to control a 1.2-inch copper voice coil at 100W RMS, with the H-grade temperature rating for sustained thermal stability. In a compact driver at high output, magnetic control and thermal management are what separate a well-engineered driver from one that clips and fatigues. On the road: consistent output with no thermal rolloff across a full day of riding.
The tweeter is a 0.75-inch PEI dome loaded by the V8™ Dispersion Guide for 360° tweeter projection. Compact speaker positions — fairing panels, dash locations, instrument surrounds — rarely place the rider in a direct listening axis. The V8™ horn geometry ensures high-frequency energy reaches the listening area regardless of the driver's orientation, keeping treble consistent across the full ride. On the road: usable treble detail from compact positions that typically deliver very little of it.
The custom-tooled polycarbonate basket is UV-stabilised and thermally resistant. The built-in 6dB crossover protects the tweeter without requiring an external network.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
At 91 dB (1W/1m) and 100W RMS, the CXX4.2 delivers the sensitivity and power capacity needed to perform in compact positions that need genuine output. A 4-inch driver will not move air the way a 6.5-inch or 6×9-inch will, but at 91 dB with 100W RMS behind it, the CXX4.2 has the headroom to be heard clearly where it's installed. The 2Ω impedance extracts maximum power from a dedicated amplifier into a speaker rated to handle it.
Frequency response runs 100 Hz – 20 kHz (±3 dB) — a 4-inch coaxial's natural operating range, covering mid and high frequencies effectively. In a system with a larger driver or subwoofer handling the low end, the CXX4.2 fills its position's frequency responsibility precisely.
Why 2Ω — Amplifier Pairing
Dedicated motorcycle amplifiers — including the Cicada FLX500.4 and FLX700.4 — publish their rated output at 2Ω. The CXX4.2 at 2Ω is the correct impedance match for extracting full rated output from the amplifier into a speaker rated to handle it. At 100W RMS power capacity, the CXX4.2 is built for exactly that operating condition.
The trade-off is current demand — a 2Ω load draws more from the amplifier. An installation done with proper gauge wiring and a genuinely 2Ω-stable amplifier is essential. For bridged configurations or conservative system designs where 4Ω is preferred, the CXX4.4 is the matching variant.
Fitment
