What's Inside the CXX525.2

The cone is Kevlar — the woven aramid fibre chosen for its low mass, high stiffness, and moisture resistance. In a 5.25" driver operating in a pre-2014 Harley batwing fairing, dimensional stability across the temperature range of a motorcycle environment matters. A Kevlar cone maintains shape at higher excursion levels, producing less distortion as output increases. On the road: the music stays clean at volume, not just at low level — particularly noticeable in the midrange where less stiff cones begin to break up at amplified output.

The N45H neodymium motor is a step up from the N35 used in the standard CX range — the same physical motor size producing a stronger magnetic field, with more flux density in the gap and better voice coil control at high excursion. The voice coil is 1.4-inch copper wound. The H-grade temperature rating ensures the magnet holds its strength under sustained thermal load. On the road: tighter, more controlled output at high volume and consistent performance across a full day of riding.

The tweeter is a 1.0-inch PEI dome loaded by the V8™ Dispersion Guide — Cicada's 360° tweeter projection system. From the batwing fairing position, the tweeter is not always pointing directly at the rider. The V8™ horn geometry spreads high-frequency energy more evenly across the full listening area, keeping treble presence consistent regardless of head position. On the road: consistent treble coverage with no dead spots and no harsh peak in the narrow axis.

The custom-tooled polycarbonate basket is UV-stabilised and thermally resistant, maintaining driver alignment under the vibration and heat conditions of a fairing at speed. The built-in 6dB crossover is integrated into the assembly, protecting the tweeter from low-frequency energy without requiring an external crossover unit.

Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage

At 91 dB (1W/1m), the CXX525.2 is a capable sensitivity figure for a 5.25-inch coaxial. Combined with 100W RMS power capacity and the 2Ω impedance that extracts maximum power from a dedicated amplifier, the CXX525.2 has the output to perform as a fairing stage at highway speed. An amplifier producing 100W RMS × 4 at 4Ω might produce 175W RMS × 4 at 2Ω from the same hardware — in a fairing position competing with wind noise, that headroom is usable.

Frequency response runs 50 Hz – 20 kHz (±3 dB). The 5.25-inch format gives meaningful mid-bass extension from the fairing position, covering the front stage's frequency responsibilities. In builds also running rear saddlebag speakers, the fairing stage handles the upper frequencies while the rear stage reinforces the low end.

Why 2Ω — Power and Output

Dedicated motorcycle amplifiers — including the Cicada FLX500.4 and FLX700.4 — publish their rated output at 2Ω. The CXX525.2 at 2Ω is the correct impedance match for extracting full rated output from the amplifier into a speaker rated to handle it. At 100W RMS power capacity, the CXX525.2 is built for exactly that operating condition.

The trade-off is current demand — a 2Ω load asks more from the amplifier. Pair with an amplifier genuinely rated for 2Ω operation and an install done with proper gauge wiring. For bridged configurations where a 4Ω minimum load is required, or when amplifier thermal margin is the priority, the CXX525.4 is the correct choice.
