95 dB of pure midrange — for systems where vocal clarity is the priority

The Precision Power MAS.65MR is a 6.5" 2Ω dedicated midrange driver built for motorcycle audio systems where output and vocal intelligibility are the primary objective. With 95 dB sensitivity and 150W RMS handling, it is the highest-efficiency driver in the standard MAS range — designed for component system builds in fairing, saddlebag, and Tour-Pak® positions where a separate amplifier channel will be dedicated to the midrange band.

Most motorcycle audio upgrades stop at a coaxial speaker — a driver that handles the full frequency range from a single unit. That approach works, and for the right system it is the correct choice. But in builds where maximum vocal clarity and output are the priority, a dedicated midrange driver changes the conversation. The MAS.65MR covers 100 Hz – 12 kHz: the band that carries virtually every instrument and vocal element you actually care about at highway speeds. By reproducing only this range, it avoids the excursion and distortion trade-offs that occur when a coaxial driver is asked to cover low bass and high treble simultaneously from the same cone.

At 95 dB sensitivity — 3 dB more than the standard MAS coaxial range — the MAS.65MR produces twice the acoustic output for the same input power. In a system where the amplifier's power is shared across multiple channels, this efficiency advantage is measurable in real-world listening volume at speed.

Who This Is For

Riders building component or multi-way motorcycle audio systems where the midrange is driven from a dedicated amplifier channel. The MAS.65MR requires crossover management — either an active crossover at the DSP or amplifier level, or a passive crossover network — to band-limit its frequency range correctly. It is not intended as a standalone drop-in coaxial replacement; it works as part of a designed multi-way system alongside a separate woofer and tweeter.

What This Is Best For

  • High-output component systems — In a multi-way build with a dedicated amplifier channel, the 95 dB sensitivity allows the midrange to keep pace with higher-efficiency tweeters and subwoofers without requiring disproportionately more power.
  • Vocal clarity at speed — The 100 Hz – 12 kHz frequency coverage concentrates the driver in the range where vocals, guitars, drums, and keyboard fundamentals live. Without the compromises of a full-range coaxial, the MAS.65MR reproduces this band with greater focus and output stability at highway speeds.
  • Fairing, saddlebag, and Tour-Pak® positions — The 6.5" format and shallow mount depth fits the common speaker positions across the Harley-Davidson® Touring range. Gold-plated terminals support parallel wiring for multi-speaker configurations.
  • High-power builds — At 150W RMS, the MAS.65MR handles significantly more sustained power than a standard MAS coaxial — appropriate for amplifier channels producing 100W+ in a dedicated midrange role.
Before You Order — Application Notes

This is a midrange driver, not a full-range coaxial. The MAS.65MR covers 100 Hz – 12 kHz and does not include a tweeter. It requires crossover management to limit its bandwidth correctly — either via DSP at the amplifier stage or a passive crossover network. It is not a direct coaxial replacement for standard fairing speaker positions in a single-speaker-per-channel setup.

Separate tweeter and woofer required. For a complete system, pair the MAS.65MR with a suitable tweeter (covering 5–6 kHz and above) and, where sub-bass is required, a dedicated woofer or powered subwoofer in the signal path.

The Bottom Line

The MAS.65MR is the midrange driver for riders who need their audio system to perform in the frequency band that actually matters on a motorcycle. The 95 dB sensitivity, 150W RMS handling, and focused 100 Hz – 12 kHz coverage make it the correct component for a properly designed multi-way build — where the midrange is given its own channel, its own amplification, and its own job.

TAB 2 — TECHNICAL DETAIL --------------------------

What's Inside

Neodymium alloy magnet structure. The MAS.65MR uses a neodymium alloy magnet — up to 18 times stronger than a conventional ferrite magnet of comparable physical size. This rare-earth motor structure produces strong motor force from a compact, lightweight assembly — important in fairing and Tour-Pak® applications where space and weight matter. The high motor force also contributes directly to the 95 dB sensitivity figure by maximising the conversion of electrical input to acoustic output.

Polypropylene-coated paper cone. A paper cone with polypropylene coating combines the natural acoustic properties of paper — smooth midrange response, low colouration — with the moisture and UV resistance needed for a speaker that lives in a motorcycle environment. The paper-based cone structure is well-suited to midrange reproduction, where a stiffer polypropylene cone can introduce resonance artefacts at the upper end of the frequency range.

2" high-temperature voice coil on Kapton® former. A 2" oxygen-free copper voice coil wound on a Kapton® polyimide former handles the thermal demands of sustained high-power midrange operation. Kapton® is a material chosen specifically for its thermal stability at elevated temperatures — it maintains its mechanical properties where standard voice coil formers would begin to deform or delaminate. This is the correct voice coil construction for a 150W RMS midrange driver expected to run hard for extended periods.

Fibre-reinforced PA66® polyamide frame. The basket is moulded from glass fibre-reinforced PA66® polyamide — a material with higher thermal stability and structural integrity than standard ABS. PA66® maintains its mechanical properties at the elevated temperatures found inside fairing and Tour-Pak® enclosures on hot days, and resists the fatigue that builds over years of vibration exposure.

Gold-plated terminals. Corrosion-resistant gold-plated terminals ensure consistent electrical contact in the damp, vibration-prone environment of a motorcycle, and support parallel wiring configurations for multi-speaker setups.

Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage

At 95 dB (1W/1m), the MAS.65MR is the most sensitive driver in the standard MAS range — 3 dB more efficient than the 92 dB MAS coaxials, which represents twice the acoustic output from the same amplifier power. In a multi-way system, this means the midrange driver does not require a disproportionately high-powered amplifier channel to keep pace with more efficient tweeters or subwoofers. The 100 Hz – 12 kHz frequency coverage defines the band-limited midrange role: low-frequency content is handled by a separate woofer, upper treble by a dedicated tweeter. Crossover points at the amplifier or DSP should be set to match the response of the accompanying system components.

Fitment

The MAS.65MR fits standard 6.5" speaker mounting positions across the Harley-Davidson® Touring range — fairing pods, saddlebag lids, and Tour-Pak® positions. The 2-5/8" mounting depth is compatible with most stock speaker positions. In fairing pod positions where the MAS.652/654 coaxial is normally fitted, the MAS.65MR can be installed in the same opening with a compatible tweeter mounted separately.

Position Notes
Fairing speaker pods (6.5") Front & lower fairing positions — requires separate tweeter
Saddlebag lid speaker positions (6.5") Fits where 6.5" saddlebag drivers are used
Tour-Pak® speaker pods (6.5") Fits factory Tour-Pak® 6.5" positions — requires separate tweeter
