Best Harley Road Glide Speakers: 1998-2013, 2015-2023 and 2024+

Because the Road Glide's Sharknose fairing is frame-mounted rather than bolted to the handlebars, its speaker orientation stays fixed as the bars turn, giving the installer a consistent physical aiming position for the front speakers. That is one factor among many, though: actual vibration, resonance and sound quality still depend on the speaker pods, mounting rigidity, damping, amplifier setup and tuning, which matter more to the end result than the fairing mount alone. This guide covers the best speaker upgrades for the Road Glide fairing and saddlebag positions across the main model years.

Road Glide Speaker Positions: What You Are Working With

A Road Glide has two primary fairing-speaker positions and, depending on trim and audio package, may also have saddlebag speakers, Tour-Pak pods or aftermarket locations. The Sharknose fairing also has kidney grille positions that can take separate tweeters:

• Fairing pods (front zone): two speaker positions in the Sharknose fairing, one per side, the primary front source. On 2015-2023 models the fairing accepts a purpose-built 6.5-inch aftermarket driver (mounting tabs, depth and grille clearance still need checking). That is a statement about the mounting architecture and the upgrade, not about what left the factory: the factory driver was 5.25-inch on most standard models, and 6.5-inch on some CVO™ and higher-specification factory audio packages. 1998-2013 models are generally 5.25-inch. On 2024+ Skyline bikes the standard Road Glide is 5.25-inch while the CVO models and the 2026 Road Glide Limited are 6.5-inch, so confirm your exact model.
• Saddlebag lids (rear zone): where a Road Glide has factory saddlebag-lid speakers, the factory position is 5x7-inch (Harley-Davidson Audio / Rockford Fosgate lids), not 6x9 — no Harley has been fitted with a factory 6x9 speaker. On 2015-2023 Road Glide models a saddlebag lid speaker was effectively a CVO™-tier feature: an ordinary Road Glide left the factory with no saddlebag speaker opening at all, so check the lids actually on your bike. A 6x9 needs replacement lids, a cut-in kit or a conversion. The redesigned lids on the 2023½-later CVO and 2024-later standard Road Glide are a separate architecture. In MAA's workshop experience, factory saddlebag speakers are often the weaker part of the stock system.
• Kidney grille positions (tweeter option): the Sharknose fairing has kidney-shaped grille openings that can accept separate tweeters, distinct from the fairing pods. This is where the CHDRGGTK tweeter kit mounts, building a component-style layout without cutting the fairing.

Road Glides with Tour-Pak speaker enclosures have an additional pair beside the Tour-Pak. Note that although the standard 2015-2023 fairing and the redesigned fairing can share a nominal size, the enclosures, grilles and mounting provisions differ, so previous-fairing products should not be assumed to fit the redesigned platform.

Fairing Pod Upgrades: 2015 to 2023 Standard Road Glide (6.5-Inch Upgrade)

The frame-mounted Sharknose fairing on a 2015-2023 Road Glide® accepts a purpose-built 6.5-inch driver. That is the standard upgrade for this generation and the same size class as the Cicada CX, CXX and CHX 6.5-inch ranges. It is a fact about the fairing, not about the factory speaker: on most standard 2015-2023 models Harley fitted a 5.25-inch fairing driver, with 6.5-inch appearing on some CVO™ and higher-specification factory audio packages. The 6.5-inch upgrade is correct either way — the purpose-built speaker does not need the factory driver to have been 6.5-inch in order to fit. One gap worth stating plainly: Harley published no fairing speaker size at all for the FLTRXS Road Glide Special from 2016 to 2023, so on those bikes the factory size is not established from published data and should be confirmed on the bike itself. The fairing speakers are the primary front source, so efficiency and high-frequency reach matter here for cutting through wind noise.

MAA's recommendation for riders prioritising maximum high-frequency projection from a single fairing speaker on an amplified build is the CHX65. The horn-loaded tweeter improves efficiency and directional control compared with a dome tweeter, which matters where high frequencies need to carry through wind noise. The fixed fairing orientation keeps the aiming consistent as the bars move; the final result still depends on mounting, pod resonance and tuning. The Kidney Grille Tweeter Option: CHDRGGTK

The Sharknose fairing has dedicated kidney grille positions most riders never use for audio. The CHDRGGTK Road Glide Kidney Grille Tweeter Kit ($600) is a direct-fit kit for the previous-generation 2015-2023 standard Road Glide fairing (confirm CVO fitment separately). It replaces the factory kidney grilles with precision-punched grilles carrying a matched pair of RR075T shallow horn tweeters (4Ω, 50W RMS), with a 12 dB passive crossover and mounting hardware included, no drilling or fabrication.

Because the tweeters sit separately and higher in the fairing, a well set-up install can produce a wider, more defined front stage than a single low coaxial, with the final result depending on crossover design, amplifier channels and tuning. The included passive crossover high-passes and protects the tweeter; the mid-bass still needs appropriate high-pass filtering at the bottom of its range. In a passive one-channel-per-side configuration, a DSP can EQ and high-pass the combined front stage, but it cannot independently level-match or time-align the mid-bass and tweeter; that requires separate amplified and processed channels.

For 2024 and later Road Glide, the 24CHDRGGTK-075 tweeter kit ($685) is the matching kit for the redesigned fairing.

14CXK65 vs CHDRGGTK: Choose One Tweeter Path

Both build a component front stage, but you only want one tweeter-and-crossover solution:

Do not pair the CHDRGGTK tweeters with a CHX65 coaxial (which already contains a tweeter); the cleaner path is a dedicated CM65X mid-bass in the pods with the CHDRGGTK tweeters in the grilles. Pick one path.

Saddlebag Lid Upgrades: 5x7 Factory or 6x9 Conversion

The saddlebag speakers handle the rear zone and add low-midrange body: bass warmth, vocal weight and fullness. If the bike already has powered saddlebag speakers, upgrading them can noticeably improve balance; if it has no speaker lids or powered rear channels, the fairing is the more straightforward first upgrade. Two paths exist. First, check what the bike actually has: on 2015-2023 Road Glide® models a saddlebag lid speaker was effectively a CVO™-tier feature, and an ordinary Road Glide left the factory with no saddlebag speaker opening at all. Where factory speaker lids are fitted they are 5x7-inch, and the Cicada CXX57.2 or CXX57.4 is the matching replacement, subject to impedance, wiring and fitment (2015-2023 CVO lid baskets in particular may require modification). To run a 6x9 you need 6x9 replacement lids, a cut-in kit or a conversion first.

One caveat on the redesigned lids: the 2023½-later CVO and 2024-later standard Road Glide lids accept model-specific 5x7 speakers and Harley-Davidson's Stage III 6x9 accessory kit in the same original opening. Stage III is an accessory upgrade, not a factory-fitted speaker, and the fact that Harley's own model-specific 6x9 fits that redesigned opening does not mean every aftermarket 6x9 shares the same direct-fit mounting provisions, so keep that distinction in mind and confirm the specific product. Once the correct lids or conversion hardware are fitted, the 6x9 options below apply.

Fairing Pod Upgrades: 1998 to 2013 Road Glide

The factory front position on 1998-2013 Road Glide models is generally 5.25 inches. Some model-specific aftermarket kits adapt or replace the mounting arrangement to accept 6.5-inch speakers, so the direct-fit product, not nominal diameter alone, must be checked: confirm the exact year, mounting pattern, grille arrangement, depth and hardware. Where a 5.25-inch speaker is the right fit, the Cicada CHX525 range suits this position, with the CHX525.4 (4Ω) and CHX525.2 (2Ω) horn coaxials. Saddlebag fitment depends on the lids installed (commonly 5x7 factory-style; 6x9 or other sizes with aftermarket lids or conversions).

2024+ Road Glide (Skyline) and CVO Road Glide

The redesigned Road Glide® fairing first appeared on the 2023½ CVO™ Road Glide and then the 2024-later standard Road Glide, both on Skyline OS. The quickest way to tell the two platforms apart is the display, not the model year: a 12.3-inch screen means Skyline OS, while a 6.5-inch screen means Boom! Box GTS. Note that the 6.5-inch figure in a Boom! Box 6.5GT name is the screen size and says nothing about speaker size. The key thing to get right is that front-speaker size differs by model:

• Standard 2024+ Road Glide (FLTRX, Skyline): the factory front is a pair of 5.25-inch drivers, with no factory rear. A confirmed model-specific 6.5-inch aftermarket speaker can be fitted to this fairing, subject to that specific product's mounting tabs, grille, adaptor and depth and to the factory audio package; nominal diameter alone does not establish direct fit. Harley does not publish a mounting-opening diameter for this position, so treat any claim about the size of the opening behind the factory 5.25-inch driver as an inference rather than a specification.
• CVO™ Road Glide: the factory fairing runs two 6.5-inch speakers. The CVO Road Glide also carries two factory 5x7 saddlebag speakers, while the CVO Road Glide ST and CVO Road Glide RR run the two 6.5-inch fairing speakers with no factory rear. Treat CVO as a multi-zone, factory-amplified build to plan separately.
• Road Glide Limited (2026): two 6.5-inch fairing speakers plus two 6.5-inch Tour-Pak speakers from the factory.
• Road Glide 3 (trike): two 5.25-inch fairing speakers and no factory rear. The 2026 trike range moved to Skyline OS, while the 2023-2025 Road Glide 3 remains on Boom! Box GTS.
• Saddlebags: the standard 2024+ Road Glide ships with fairing speakers only and no factory rear speakers; where speaker lids are fitted, confirm the lid generation and opening.
• Component tweeter: the 24CHDRGGTK-075 kidney grille tweeter kit fits the 2024+ grille positions.
• Amplification: a confirmed direct-fit speaker swap that keeps the factory amplification needs no interface, but adding an external amplifier or DSP on Skyline normally uses a compatible A2B interface, confirmed for your exact model and audio package. Recommended Build Paths for Road Glide

Stage 1 (front speakers only): upgrade the fairing speakers using the impedance and fitment appropriate for the radio or amplifier installed. Identify the existing radio, amp and audio package first: Harley systems in this range include both 4Ω Stage I and 2Ω Stage II products, so do not default to a particular impedance. The CXX range is worth the step over CX if you intend to add an amp later.

Stage 2 (speakers with amplifier): CXX65 in the fairing pods plus CXX57 (5x7) or CXX69 (6x9-capable lids) in the saddlebag lids, with an FLX700.4 or FLX1000.4.

Stage 3 (component front stage plus rear): CM65X mid-bass in the fairing pods with CHDRGGTK tweeters in the kidney grilles, plus rear speakers for the actual lid configuration. Two ways to power it:

• Passive front component: use the 4Ω CM65.4X with the CHDRGGTK tweeter and supplied passive crossover per side. One channel of a four-channel amp such as the FLX1400.4 powers each front side, leaving two channels for the rear. Because the load is frequency-dependent, confirm the final impedance and amplifier stability before wiring, and because the FLX1400.4 can deliver up to 225W at 4Ω, confirm the component system's power handling and limit the channel output where required.
• Fully active front component: each mid-bass and tweeter gets its own DSP and amp channel; a rear pair makes it a six-amplified-channel system. An FLX1400.4PRO can process two additional pass-through channels, but those outputs still require a second amplifier.
