The CHX525.2 at 4Ω — for bridged channels and conservative builds.

The Cicada Audio CHX525.4 is a 5.25-inch 4Ω PRO coaxial horn speaker — 150W RMS, 91 dB sensitivity, aluminium horn tweeter with Nanofram™ all-weather horn cover, Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) mid-bass cone, Black Coat™ OFC 1.75-inch mid-bass voice coil, N35SH neodymium motor, tweeter attenuation (-3/-6 dB), and an external 12 dB crossover in a die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™. Designed for 1998–2013 Street Glide and Road Glide front fairing speaker positions. Sold in pairs.

The CHX525.4 shares every construction element with the CHX525.2 — the same CMC™ cone, the same Nanofram™ Horn Cover, the same 150W RMS power handling and 91 dB sensitivity in the 5.25-inch front fairing format of 1998–2013 Street Glide and Road Glide. The 4Ω impedance presents a higher electrical load to the amplifier: lower current demand, reduced thermal stress, and compatibility with bridged configurations where a 4Ω minimum load is required.

Who This Speaker Is For

For riders on 1998–2013 Street Glide and Road Glide running bridged front channels, or who prefer the conservative 4Ω impedance for better system thermal performance. The CHX525.4 is the 4Ω variant of the CHX525.2 — same driver, same PRO construction, higher impedance. For dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifiers in stereo, the CHX525.2 extracts maximum power.

What This Is Best For

  • Bridged front channels on 1998–2013 Street Glide and Road Glide — when front channels are bridged for maximum per-channel output, the CHX525.4 satisfies the 4Ω minimum load requirement while delivering the PRO horn coaxial's 91 dB output from the factory front fairing position.
  • Uniform 4Ω PRO horn builds — pairs with CHX65.4 in multi-speaker configurations where consistent 4Ω impedance across every position simplifies amplifier matching and reduces total system current draw.
  • Conservative system builds where the entire system runs 4Ω — the correct impedance choice when keeping total current demand low is a system-level priority.
  • Builds where the amplifier already delivers sufficient power at 4Ω — when the amp's 4Ω rated output exceeds 150W per channel, the CHX525.4 receives its full rated power without requiring the 2Ω operating condition.

⚠ Crossover Setting — Read Before Installing

Set your high-pass crossover to 120 Hz minimum at 24 dB/oct slope before powering the CHX525.4. Horn coaxial drivers reach their mechanical travel limit (XMAX) at low frequencies — crossing over too low causes over-excursion. The damage is mechanical: tinsel lead connections tear from the voice coil/spider assembly as the cone overextends. This is not a power problem. It is a crossover problem.

2Ω vs 4Ω — Choosing the Right Version

The CHX525.4 is a 4Ω speaker. Choose the 4Ω version for bridged amplifier configurations, conservative system designs where amplifier thermal margin matters, or when the amplifier already delivers sufficient power at 4Ω. For maximum output from a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier in stereo, the CHX525.2 (2Ω) is the correct choice.

The Bottom Line

150W RMS, 91 dB, 5.25-inch PRO horn coaxial with CMC™ cone, Nanofram™ all-weather cover — the 4Ω version for bridged and conservative builds in 5.25-inch speaker positions.

Ready to upgrade? Add to cart above. For the 2Ω variant, the CHX525.2 is the same speaker at 2Ω. For a 6.5-inch PRO horn in 2014+ H-D factory fairing positions, the CHX65.4 is the larger-format 4Ω option.

What's Inside the CHX525.4

The CHX525.4 is identical in construction to the CHX525.2 — all construction notes below apply equally to both impedance variants.

The tweeter is an aluminium dome in a horn waveguide, protected by the Nanofram™ Horn Cover for all-weather protection. The removable threaded horn ring allows replacement or modification. Horn loading delivers 91 dB sensitivity. The 4Ω impedance adds thermal headroom to both the driver and the amplifier at the operating levels of the 5.25-inch format. On the road: horn-loaded treble from the 5.25-inch position with the amplifier running cooler on those channels.

The mid-bass cone is Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) — lightweight, rigid, and thermally stable. The 1.75-inch / 44mm Black Coat™ OFC copper mid-bass voice coil handles sustained 150W RMS. The 1.0-inch / 25.4mm OFC copper tweeter voice coil completes the signal path. The motor is an N35SH neodymium with H-grade temperature rating. The die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™ manages heat through active airflow. Tweeter attenuation of -3 or -6 dB allows balancing the horn tweeter's output against the mid-bass.

The external 12 dB crossover is custom-tooled, vented, and encased, with the tweeter attenuation resistor heat-sink encased separately.

Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage

At 91 dB (1W/1m) and 150W RMS, the CHX525.4 matches the output of the CHX525.2 — impedance changes amplifier compatibility, not speaker performance. Frequency response runs 90 Hz – 20 kHz (±5 dB). The 4Ω impedance means the amplifier draws less current on these channels — relevant in multi-speaker builds where total system current demand is a design consideration.

Why 4Ω — Bridged Amps and Thermal Margin

A 4Ω speaker presents a higher electrical load than a 2Ω speaker — lower current demand and more thermal margin on both sides. For bridged configurations, the 4Ω load satisfies the minimum impedance requirement on most amplifiers in the FLX range. For stereo installs at the amp's rated 2Ω output, the CHX525.2 is the matching choice.
