⚠ Crossover Setting — Read Before Installing
Set your high-pass crossover to 120 Hz minimum at 24 dB/oct slope before powering the CHX65.2. Horn coaxial drivers reach their mechanical travel limit (XMAX) at low frequencies — crossing over too low causes over-excursion. The damage is mechanical: tinsel lead connections tear from the voice coil/spider assembly as the cone overextends. This is not a power problem. It is a crossover problem.
2Ω vs 4Ω — Choosing the Right Version
The CHX65.2 is a 2Ω speaker. Choose the 2Ω version when running a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier in stereo — the FLX1400.4 and FLX2000.4 publish their rated output at 2Ω, which is where the CHX65.2 delivers its full 300W RMS capacity. What's Inside the CHX65.2
The tweeter is an aluminium dome in a horn waveguide, protected by the Nanofram™ Horn Cover — Cicada's all-weather horn enclosure. The removable threaded horn ring allows the cover to be replaced or modified. Horn loading delivers 92 dB sensitivity from the aluminium dome driver. On the road: projected, present treble from the factory fairing position that remains audible at highway speed — the horn's efficiency advantage over a dome-tweeter design in the same location.
The mid-bass cone is Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) — lighter and more rigid than treated paper, with higher temperature resistance. The 2.0-inch / 51mm Black Coat™ OFC copper mid-bass voice coil handles sustained 300W RMS. The 1.4-inch / 35.56mm OFC copper tweeter voice coil completes the signal path. On the road: consistent fairing-stage mid-bass output across extended high-output riding — the CMC™ cone maintains its stiffness and resonant characteristics where a paper cone can soften under load.
The motor is an N35SH neodymium with H-grade temperature rating. The die-cast aluminium basket provides the structural rigidity required for the factory-fit installation. The tweeter attenuation of -3 or -6 dB allows balancing the horn tweeter's output against the mid-bass — useful for system tuning against the rear stage in a full front-and-rear build.
The external 12 dB crossover is custom-tooled, vented, and encased, with the tweeter attenuation resistor heat-sink encased separately.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
At 92 dB (1W/1m) and 300W RMS, the CHX65.2 delivers fairing-stage output that extracts full rated performance from a high-output motorcycle amplifier. Frequency response runs 70 Hz – 20 kHz (±4 dB). The horn-loaded tweeter delivers the upper-frequency efficiency that makes the fairing stage audible at highway speed regardless of wind and mechanical noise levels.
Why 2Ω — Amplifier Pairing
At 2Ω, the CHX65.2 extracts full rated output from any 2Ω-stable motorcycle amplifier. The FLX1400.4 and FLX2000.4 publish their rated output at 2Ω stereo — the CHX65.2's 300W RMS capacity is matched to what those amplifiers produce at 2Ω per channel. For bridged configurations, the CHX65.4 satisfies the 4Ω minimum load requirement. The FLX1000.4 bridged into CHX65.4 at 4Ω is also a supported configuration.
