The largest PRO horn coaxial – an 8" 2Ω driver at 400W RMS for custom builds, saddlebag lids and lower fairings
The Cicada Audio CHX8.2PRO is an 8-inch 2Ω coaxial with a horn-loaded aluminium tweeter, rated at 400W RMS (800W peak) with 92dB sensitivity. A Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone is driven by a 64mm (2.5") flat-wound voice coil and N45SH neodymium motor in a vented diecast basket, with a Nanofram™ horn cover and external 12dB crossovers. Cicada designed it for 2014–2023 Harley-Davidson® 8" saddlebag lid kits and aftermarket lower fairings. Sold as a pair.
An 8" coaxial is for custom builds, saddlebag lid, lower fairing or Tour-Pak® positions, and any Harley application where the space allows a larger driver and the goal is maximum output from a coaxial design. The CHX8.4PRO is the 4Ω version, and the original CHX8.2 stays in the range. The PRO adds an N45SH motor, a flat-wound TIL-former coil, Vortex Flow Venting™, a cloth surround and a 3-year warranty.
Who This Is For
Builders who have, or are creating, an 8" opening. That might be a custom enclosure, an 8" saddlebag lid kit on a 2014–2023 Touring bike, an aftermarket lower fairing cut for 8" drivers, or a Tour-Pak® lid built to suit. They want a single coaxial that covers mid-bass through treble with more cone area than a 6×9. The amplifier should be 2Ω-stable with power to spare. For bridged channels, choose the CHX8.4PRO. For a standard lid without an 8" kit, the CHX69.2PRO suits Cicada's 6×9 cut-in kits.
What This Is Best For
- Maximum cone area from one coaxial – a round 8" cone has more radiating area than a 6.5" and moves more air in the upper bass than smaller coaxials. Where the space allows it, that means more output before the system has to add a separate mid-bass driver.
- Lower fairing builds – in aftermarket lowers cut for 8" drivers, the CHX8.2PRO puts a full-range horn coaxial near the rider's knees. That adds output and fills out the stage below the fairing when it's level-matched to the front pair.
- A 2Ω amp with power in reserve – the FLX1400.4 delivers 350W × 4 at 2Ω, within this driver's 400W RMS rating. The FLX2000.4 (542W × 4 at 2Ω) needs its gain set to respect that 400W ceiling.
- Weather in exposed positions – lowers and lids take spray and sun directly, and the Nanofram™ horn cover and Rain or Shine Pro™ construction are built for exactly that.
90Hz High-Pass Required
Run the CHX8.2PRO behind a high-pass of 90Hz minimum at 24dB per octave, lower only if the enclosure has been designed and measured for it. A horn coaxial reaches its travel limit below that, and over-excursion tears the tinsel leads, however much power the speaker is rated for. With a 12dB-per-octave filter, set the frequency higher.
8" PRO at 2Ω or 4Ω?
Wire one speaker per channel in stereo on a 2Ω-stable amp and the 2Ω CHX8.2PRO extracts the amp's highest rating. Bridge two channels into each speaker and each channel sees half the speaker's impedance, so a 2Ω driver would push it to 1Ω. That build needs the CHX8.4PRO. Both versions are identical apart from the coil winding.
The Bottom Line
The CHX8.2PRO is the biggest coaxial in the PRO horn range: 400W RMS and 92dB from an 8" CMC™ cone, for builders who have made room for it. For a system designed around 8" positions, talk to us about a custom build.

What's Inside the CHX8.2PRO
The 8" Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone has to stay stiff across a wide diameter, which is where composite construction earns its place over paper or plain polypropylene. It rides on a low-profile cloth surround that keeps moving mass down. On the road: a large cone that stays controlled at volume, so bass notes start and stop cleanly.
A 64mm (2.5") voice coil of flat-wound copper on a TIL composite former, sealed in Black Coat™ thermoset resin, handles 400W RMS. The N45SH neodymium motor keeps its strength at high temperature. On the road: a lower fairing sits near the engine, and this motor is built for that heat.
The Vortex Flow Venting™ diecast aluminium basket moves air across the coil as the cone travels. On the road: sustained output without the gradual loss of punch that heat-soaked coils suffer.
The horn-loaded aluminium tweeter uses a 44mm (1.75") coil behind a Nanofram™ cover, on a removable threaded flange for modification. On the road: clear treble from a low mounting position, protected from spray.
Why 2Ω
A 2Ω load lets a 2Ω-stable amp deliver its highest per-channel output in stereo. The FLX1400.4 rises from 225W at 4Ω to 350W at 2Ω. At 400W RMS, the CHX8.2PRO has room for that. It is never bridged.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
92dB (1W/1m) sensitivity and a 75Hz to 20kHz (±3dB) response make this a high-output full-range coaxial once it is high-passed at 90Hz. The internal 12dB-per-octave crossover splits cone and horn at 4kHz, with –3dB or –6dB tweeter attenuation to balance it against the rest of the system.
Mounting
Mounting depth is 83.9mm (3.3") and mounting diameter is 181mm (7.1"). Check both against your lid kit, lower fairing or enclosure. Cicada lists it for the 2014–2023 H-D 8" saddlebag lid kit (14HDLID8LT) and aftermarket lower fairings.
