400W 2Ω horn coaxials for Harley-Davidson® saddlebag lids – the PRO rear stage for Road Glide® and Street Glide®

The Cicada Audio CHX69.2PRO is a 6×9-inch 2Ω coaxial with a horn-loaded aluminium tweeter, rated at 400W RMS (800W peak) with 92dB sensitivity. It's built for 2014–2023 and 2024+ Road Glide and Street Glide saddlebag lids fitted with a cut-in mounting kit. A Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone is driven by a 64mm (2.5") flat-wound voice coil and N45SH neodymium motor in a vented diecast basket, with a Nanofram™ horn cover and external 12dB crossovers. Sold as a pair.

This is the 2Ω version; the CHX69.4PRO is wound for 4Ω and bridged channels. The original CHX69.2 remains in the range. The PRO moves to an N45SH magnet, a flat-wound coil on a TIL former, Vortex Flow Venting™ and a cloth surround, and extends the warranty to 3 years.

Who This Is For

Riders adding or upgrading saddlebag speakers on a 2014-or-later Road Glide or Street Glide who want the rear pair to keep up with a hard-working fairing stage. The amplifier should have 2Ω-stable channels to spare. A 6×9 in the lid gives the system more cone area and output behind the rider, and better coverage for a pillion. On bikes with standard solid saddlebag lids, adding 6×9-inch rear speakers requires either replacement speaker lids or a cut-in lid kit. Cicada's cut-in kits are listed under Fitment. For bridged rear channels, choose the CHX69.4PRO.

What This Is Best For

  • More output from the back of the bike – a 6×9 moves considerably more air than a 5.25" or 6.5", so the rear pair adds real output and fill behind the rider rather than a faint echo of the fairing. Level-match and delay it properly, and it supports the front stage instead of pulling the image backwards.
  • Using the 2Ω rating of a 2Ω amp – the FLX1400.4 makes 350W × 4 at 2Ω, within this speaker's 400W RMS rating with margin to spare. Pair it with CHX65.2PRO fronts for a four-speaker PRO system on one amp.
  • A horn tweeter aimed forward from the bags – with 92dB of efficiency and a horn-loaded dome, the rear treble reaches the rider and passenger rather than disappearing into the slipstream. Use the –3dB or –6dB setting to sit it behind the fairing tweeters.
  • Life in the lid – saddlebag lids take direct sun and rain. The Nanofram™ horn cover and Rain or Shine Pro™ construction are made for that position.

High-Pass at 90Hz or Above

Run the CHX69.2PRO behind a high-pass of 90Hz minimum at 24dB per octave. A horn 6×9 in a lid has limited air behind it and reaches its travel limit below that. Over-excursion tears the tinsel leads, and that damage is mechanical, not a power-rating issue. With a 12dB-per-octave filter, set the frequency higher.

Choosing Between the CHX69.2PRO and CHX69.4PRO

Run the rear pair from its own stereo channels on a 2Ω-stable amp and the 2Ω CHX69.2PRO makes the most of it. Bridge two channels into each rear speaker and each channel sees half the speaker's impedance, so a 2Ω speaker would load it at 1Ω. In that case the CHX69.4PRO is the right choice. Build quality and sound are the same; the amplifier wiring decides.

The Bottom Line

The CHX69.2PRO is the high-output rear stage for 2014+ Road Glide and Street Glide saddlebag lids: 400W RMS and 92dB from a horn 6×9 built for the conditions a lid sees. Add the cut-in kit for your year, or let the System Builder put together the whole system, including lid hardware.

What's Inside the CHX69.2PRO

The 64mm (2.5") mid-bass voice coil is the largest in the CHX PRO range, shared only with the 8". It is flat-wound copper on a TIL composite former, sealed in Black Coat™ high-temperature thermoset resin. A larger coil spreads 400W of heat over more copper. On the road: the rear pair keeps up with the fairing through a long run instead of fading as it heats.

An N45SH neodymium motor provides a strong field for a compact, light assembly. The SH grade holds its strength when the lid is sitting in full sun. On the road: a black lid on an Australian summer afternoon is exactly the heat this motor is rated for.

The Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone is rigid across its large oval area and rides on a low-profile cloth surround. The Vortex Flow Venting™ diecast basket pumps air past the coil. On the road: defined mid-bass from the bags, not boom.

The aluminium dome is horn-loaded with a 44mm (1.75") coil, behind a Nanofram™ cover on a removable threaded flange. On the road: rain and wash water are kept off the tweeter without muffling it.

Why 2Ω

A 2Ω speaker lets a 2Ω-stable amplifier deliver its highest per-channel rating in stereo. On the FLX1400.4, that's 350W instead of 225W at 4Ω. With a 400W RMS rating, the CHX69.2PRO takes that output comfortably. It is for stereo channels only and is never bridged.

Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage

92dB (1W/1m) sensitivity makes the rear stage efficient, and the response runs 75Hz to 20kHz (±3dB). Set the high-pass at 90Hz or above. The internal 12dB-per-octave crossover splits the cone and horn at 4kHz. If the build needs weight below the high-pass, that job belongs to a dedicated mid-bass driver, not the coaxial.

Mounting

Mounting depth is 95.4mm (3.75"), and the mounting dimension is 216mm (8.5") across the long axis. Cicada designed the CHX69PRO for 2014–2023 and 2024+ Road Glide and Street Glide saddlebag lids with a cut-in mounting kit.
