10″ ferrite mid-bass driver for Harley Touring — Y30 ceramic motor, 800W RMS, same output capability as the NEO at a more accessible price point
The Cicada Audio CMB10.S4 is a 10-inch mid-bass driver built for high-output bagger systems. A Y30 ferrite ceramic motor and 3-inch 6-layer Black Coat™ OFC voice coil deliver 800W RMS / 1,600W MAX power handling in a heavy-duty die-cast aluminium basket with advanced thermal management. Proven output, motorcycle-grade construction, and the same core power rating as the neodymium CMB10.S4NEO — at a lower price. Sold individually.
The CMB10.S4 is the ferrite-motor version of the CMB10 range. It shares the same 800W RMS rating, 4Ω impedance, 3-inch 6-layer Black Coat™ OFC voice coil, and die-cast aluminium basket as the neodymium CMB10.S4NEO — the difference is the motor. The S4 uses a Y30 ferrite ceramic magnet structure: heavier than the N42 neodymium slug in the S4NEO, but a more cost-effective route to 800W RMS mid-bass. If total system weight is not a constraint, the CMB10.S4 delivers the same output performance for less.
Who This Is For
Riders building a high-output 10-inch mid-bass stage on a Harley-Davidson® Touring model where the priority is maximum output at the best price point, and where the additional weight of a ferrite motor is not a concern. The CMB10.S4 suits saddlebag builds, Tour-Pak enclosures, and SPL-style systems where 800W RMS is genuinely being used. If you're building into stretched lids or a weight-sensitive enclosure where every kilogram matters, see the neodymium CMB10.S4NEO.
What This Is Best For
- 800W RMS mid-bass output at a lower entry price — The Y30 ferrite motor and 3-inch 6-layer Black Coat™ OFC voice coil deliver the same 800W RMS / 1,600W MAX power handling as the neodymium CMB10.S4NEO. The ferrite motor is heavier, but it produces the same magnetic flux and drives the same voice coil in the same gap. If the weight difference between ferrite and neodymium is not a factor in your build, the CMB10.S4 gets you to the same output for less. On the road: 800W RMS of mid-bass authority — chest-punching output at highway speed — without the premium of a neodymium motor.
- 3-inch Black Coat™ OFC voice coil for sustained power — The 76mm 6-layer OFC winding maximises conductor cross-section in the gap, producing high current capacity and low DC resistance. Black Coat™ improves thermal conductivity between the coil and the former, allowing heat generated under sustained high-power use to conduct away from the gap more efficiently than an untreated coil. The result is a sustained 800W RMS rating, not a peak figure the driver can only hold for a few seconds. On the road: consistent mid-bass output over a long run at high volume — no thermal compression during the best stretch of road.
- 35 Hz – 1.8 kHz frequency response covering the full mid-bass band — The CMB10.S4's usable range covers deep mid-bass from 35 Hz through to 1.8 kHz — wide enough to cover the upper bass frequencies that give a system its punch at highway speed, and to hand off cleanly to a saddlebag or fairing tweeter at the crossover point. On the road: a mid-bass stage that delivers impact across the full frequency band that matters for Harley touring audio — not just bass rumble, but the punch and body in the 100–400 Hz range where you feel it most.
- Vented voice coil gap and advanced heat-sink design — The vented voice coil gap circulates air through the motor as the cone moves, removing heat that would otherwise accumulate during extended high-power use. The advanced heat-sink architecture at the motor provides additional thermal mass and surface area for heat dissipation. Together, these systems keep the coil temperature manageable over the kind of sustained operation that high-power motorcycle audio systems actually see. On the road: a 10-inch driver that handles four hours of heavy use — not just a 30-minute demo.
- Heavy-duty die-cast aluminium basket — The basket is die-cast aluminium — rigid enough to maintain consistent gap geometry under the vibration loads a motorcycle chassis generates, and dimensionally stable across a wide temperature range. A basket that flexes under vibration lets the voice coil move off-axis in the gap, increasing distortion and accelerating coil wear. Die-cast construction prevents that. On the road: consistent driver geometry and consistent sound quality over years of use on a bike — not just when new.
CMB10.S4 vs CMB10.S4NEO — which 10-inch driver do you need?
Both drivers are rated at 800W RMS / 1,600W MAX, 4Ω, and use the same 3-inch 6-layer Black Coat™ OFC voice coil and die-cast aluminium basket. The difference is the motor: the CMB10.S4 uses a Y30 ferrite ceramic magnet — heavier, but at a lower price point. The CMB10.S4NEO uses an N42 neodymium slug — substantially lighter for the same magnetic flux, at a higher price. If the speakers are going into stretched lids, Tour-Pak enclosures, or a build where total weight is a real consideration, choose the S4NEO. If weight is not a constraint and you want 800W RMS mid-bass at the best price, the CMB10.S4 is the right choice.

The Bottom Line
The CMB10.S4 is 800W RMS of 10-inch mid-bass in a motorcycle-grade ferrite-motor driver — proven output, heavy-duty construction, and a direct price advantage over the neodymium alternative. Pair with a FLX1400.4 running bridged channels, or a dedicated FLX1600.1 mono for a high-power dedicated mid-bass channel. For the neodymium version where weight matters, see the CMB10.S4NEO. Y30 Ferrite Ceramic Motor
The motor uses a Y30 Ferrite Ceramic magnet structure — a high-grade ferrite compound that produces a stable, consistent magnetic field across a wide temperature range. Y30 is a well-established motor material in high-power speaker applications: it is thermally stable, cost-effective at scale, and produces the magnetic flux required to drive a 3-inch voice coil in a gap sized for 800W RMS. The ferrite structure is heavier than the equivalent neodymium motor in the CMB10.S4NEO, but it is dimensionally stable under heat and does not demagnetise at elevated temperatures the way lower-grade rare-earth magnets can. On the road: a motor that maintains its magnetic properties and consistent sensitivity across a full riding season — summer heat and winter cold — without degradation over time.
3-Inch Black Coat™ OFC Voice Coil
The 3-inch (76mm) 6-layer Black Coat™ OFC Copper voice coil is the thermal core of the CMB10.S4's power handling. Six layers of oxygen-free copper winding maximise conductor cross-section in the gap, producing high current capacity and low DC resistance at the rated 4Ω impedance. Black Coat™ is Cicada's thermal treatment applied to the coil: it improves heat transfer between the coil winding and the former, allowing heat generated under sustained high-power operation to conduct away from the gap more efficiently than an untreated coil. This is the same voice coil assembly used in the neodymium CMB10.S4NEO. On the road: an 800W RMS rating that is genuinely sustained over a long session at highway speed — not a 30-second peak figure.
Vented Coil Gap and Advanced Heat-Sink Design
The vented voice coil gap circulates air through the motor structure as the cone moves, creating a pumping action that removes heat from the coil and gap with each cycle. The advanced voice coil heat-sink design adds thermal mass and surface area at the motor, providing additional capacity to absorb and dissipate heat during sustained high-power operation. On a motorcycle, where the amplifier may be running close to full output for extended highway sessions, thermal management is not a secondary consideration — it determines whether the driver maintains consistent sensitivity and output over the duration of a ride, or begins to thermally compress early. On the road: a driver that sounds the same at the end of a long day as it did at the start — no progressive sensitivity loss, no compression building up over hours of use.
Heavy-Duty Die-Cast Aluminium Basket
The heavy-duty die-cast aluminium basket provides the structural foundation that makes high-power performance reliable over time. Die-cast construction — as opposed to stamped steel — produces a dimensionally precise, rigid basket that maintains consistent voice coil gap geometry under vibration and thermal cycling. On a motorcycle, the driver lives in an environment of sustained chassis vibration across a wide temperature range; a basket that flexes under those conditions allows the coil to run off-axis in the gap, which increases distortion and accelerates coil wear. The die-cast aluminium basket prevents that, and its light weight relative to comparable steel baskets keeps the total driver mass lower than a stamped-steel-basket equivalent would be. On the road: a basket that keeps the coil centred in the gap through five years of Australian riding — and a driver that sounds as good in year five as it did on day one.
