10″ neodymium mid-bass driver for Harley Touring — CMC™ cone, N42 NEO motor, 800W RMS with a weight-to-output ratio that ferrite can't match
The Cicada Audio CMB10.S4NEO is a 10-inch mid-bass driver built for high-output bagger systems where weight matters. The N42 neodymium slug motor delivers 800W RMS / 1,600W MAX power handling in a motor structure dramatically lighter than an equivalent ferrite magnet. The Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) cone adds rigidity without adding mass. The result is a 10-inch mid-bass driver that moves fast, handles sustained power, and doesn't weigh down the lid or enclosure that carries it. Sold individually.
The CMB10.S4NEO is the neodymium version of the CMB10.S4. Both drivers share the same 800W RMS rating, 4Ω impedance, CMC™ cone, 3-inch 6-layer Black Coat™ OFC voice coil, and die-cast aluminium basket with Vortex Flow Venting™ — the difference is the motor. The S4NEO uses an N42 neodymium slug where the S4 uses a conventional ferrite structure. If weight is a consideration — stretched lids, custom enclosures, Tour-Pak builds, or a bike where every kilogram counts — the S4NEO is the correct choice.
Who This Is For
Riders building a high-output 10-inch mid-bass stage on a Harley-Davidson® Touring model who need 800W RMS without the weight of a ferrite motor. The CMB10.S4NEO suits stretched saddlebag builds, Tour-Pak enclosures, and SPL-style systems where the full power rating is genuinely being deployed. If weight is not a constraint and you want the same output at a lower price point, see the CMB10.S4.
What This Is Best For
- High-output mid-bass in weight-sensitive builds — The N42 neodymium motor delivers the same 800W RMS / 1,600W MAX capability as the ferrite CMB10.S4 at a fraction of the motor weight. On stretched saddlebag lids and Tour-Pak enclosures, the weight saving at the motor is meaningful — less load on the lid hardware, better balance when the bags are open. On the road: a lid-mounted 10-inch driver that doesn't flex the hinge or load the saddlebag mounting points the way a heavy ferrite motor would.
- CMC™ cone for fast, accurate mid-bass to 1.8 kHz — The Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone is stiff enough to resist deformation at high excursion, lightweight enough to start and stop quickly, and weather-resistant enough to handle heat cycles, moisture, and UV. The 35 Hz – 1.8 kHz frequency response covers the full mid-bass band and hands off cleanly to a fairing or saddlebag tweeter. On the road: tight, accurate mid-bass at 110 km/h — no cone flex, no breakup at the top of the driver's range, no harshness when crossing to a tweeter at 1.8 kHz.
- 3-inch Black Coat™ OFC voice coil for sustained power — The 76mm 6-layer OFC winding maximises conductor cross-section in the gap, producing high current capacity and low DC resistance. Black Coat™ improves thermal conductivity between the coil and the former, allowing heat generated under sustained high-power use to conduct away from the gap more efficiently. On the road: consistent output over a long ride at high volume — not thermal limiting after 20 minutes.
- Vortex Flow Venting™ basket for active cooling — The die-cast aluminium basket uses venting geometry positioned to circulate air around the motor structure and voice coil gap as the cone moves. Combined with the vented voice coil gap and advanced heat-sink design at the motor, this produces active cooling that scales with the driver's output level. On the road: a 10-inch mid-bass driver that runs cooler under sustained heavy load — and maintains consistent sensitivity as the session extends.
- Rain or Shine™ all-weather construction — The CMC™ cone, motor sealing, and basket finish are designed for a motorcycle's environment: thermal cycling, humidity, rain, vibration, and UV. This is not a home-audio driver adapted for outdoor use — it is engineered for a motorcycle from the motor out. On the road: a speaker that performs identically in January cold and July heat, wet or dry.
CMB10.S4NEO vs CMB10.S4 — which 10-inch driver do you need?
Both drivers are rated at 800W RMS / 1,600W MAX, 4Ω, and use the same CMC™ cone, 3-inch 6-layer Black Coat™ OFC voice coil, and die-cast aluminium basket. The difference is the motor: the CMB10.S4NEO uses an N42 neodymium slug — substantially lighter for the same magnetic flux. The CMB10.S4 uses a conventional ferrite motor — heavier, but at a lower price point. If the speakers are going into stretched lids, Tour-Pak enclosures, or a build where total weight matters, the S4NEO is the correct choice. If weight is not a constraint, the CMB10.S4 delivers identical output performance.

The Bottom Line
The CMB10.S4NEO is the right 10-inch mid-bass driver when you need 800W RMS and can't afford the weight of a ferrite motor. The N42 neodymium motor, CMC™ cone, and 3-inch 6-layer Black Coat™ OFC coil are built for sustained power in a motorcycle environment — and the 35 Hz – 1.8 kHz response covers the full mid-bass band. Pair with a FLX1400.4 running bridged channels, or a dedicated FLX1600.1 mono for a dedicated high-power mid-bass channel. For the ferrite-motor version at a lower price point, see the CMB10.S4. CMC™ Carbon Matrix Composite Cone
The cone is Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) — Cicada's proprietary blend of carbon fibre and composite polymer. CMC™ is significantly stiffer than polypropylene at the same mass, which means the cone maintains its shape under high-excursion operation rather than flexing and distorting at the limits of travel. It is also weather-resistant: dimensionally stable across a wide temperature range and resistant to humidity and UV degradation. The stiffness-to-mass ratio directly determines how accurately the driver can reproduce the upper end of its frequency range — and at 1.8 kHz, a cone that flexes at high output will produce audible distortion before the voicecoil reaches its thermal limit. On the road: a mid-bass cone that stays accurate at 800W — no cone flex, no frequency response shift, no mechanical breakup at the limits of excursion.
N42 Neodymium Motor
The motor uses an N42 Neodymium Slug — a solid N42-grade neodymium magnet rather than the ring magnet arrangement typical in ferrite motors. N42 neodymium produces a high magnetic flux density with a fraction of the mass of an equivalent ferrite magnet. This makes the CMB10.S4NEO significantly lighter than the ferrite CMB10.S4 for the same 800W RMS rating. The neodymium slug structure also typically produces a more focused magnetic field in the voice coil gap, which contributes to the driver's linearity at high excursion levels. On the road: 800W RMS of mid-bass output in a motor that doesn't require the bike to carry the extra weight of a ferrite structure — relevant on longer rides and on builds where lid weight directly affects handling.
3-Inch Black Coat™ OFC Voice Coil
The 3-inch (76mm) 6-layer Black Coat™ OFC Copper voice coil is the thermal core of the CMB10.S4NEO's power handling. Six layers of oxygen-free copper winding maximise conductor cross-section in the gap, producing high current capacity and low DC resistance at the rated 4Ω impedance. Black Coat™ is Cicada's thermal treatment: it improves heat transfer between the coil winding and the former, allowing heat generated under sustained high-power operation to conduct away from the gap more efficiently than an untreated coil. The result is a sustained power rating — not a peak figure the driver reaches for a few seconds before thermal compression sets in. On the road: an 800W RMS rating that is genuinely available over a full session at highway speed, not just on a demo track.
Vortex Flow Venting™ Basket and Cooling Architecture
The heavy-duty die-cast aluminium basket uses Cicada's Vortex Flow Venting™ geometry — vent apertures positioned and shaped to draw air through the basket and around the motor structure as the cone moves. This is active cooling: air circulation is driven by cone excursion rather than convection alone. Combined with the vented voice coil gap and the advanced heat-sink architecture at the motor, the cooling output scales with the driver's output level — the harder the driver is working, the more air it moves past the motor. The aluminium basket also provides the structural rigidity required to maintain consistent gap geometry under vibration and thermal cycling. On the road: a driver that runs cooler at high output levels than a sealed basket, and maintains consistent sensitivity and frequency response over an extended high-volume session.
Why Neodymium for Motorcycle Mid-Bass
A ferrite magnet motor must be physically large to develop the magnetic flux required for high-sensitivity, high-power applications. Neodymium produces the same flux density in a much smaller, lighter structure. For a 10-inch mid-bass driver mounted in a Harley saddlebag lid or Tour-Pak enclosure, the weight saving at the motor is not trivial: it reduces load on the lid hardware, allows the overall enclosure to be lighter, and is a real consideration on a bike where sprung-weight distribution affects dynamics. The N42 grade used in the CMB10.S4NEO is a mid-high grade neodymium — strong enough to drive a 3-inch, 6-layer voice coil in a gap sized for 800W RMS, without requiring a physically large magnet to do it. On the road: 800W RMS of mid-bass capability in a driver that doesn't change how the bike feels under load — because the motor structure weighing it down is a fraction of the size of an equivalent ferrite.
