The shallow-fit 6×9" waveguide for RR2TM & RR3TM motors — horn-loaded saddlebag performance where standard horns won't fit

The Cicada Audio RR3WG-69S is a shallow-mount 6×9" acoustic waveguide engineered for Cicada Audio's RR2TM and RR3TM compression driver motors. Sold as a pair, it transforms a compact tweeter motor into a focused, high-output horn-loaded tweeter — delivering the SPL, projection, and weather resistance that saddlebag lid installs demand, without the depth penalty of a conventional horn.

Where the RR3WG-69F (flat) and RR3WG-69A (angled) waveguides suit deeper enclosures, the RR3WG-69S is the purpose-built shallow solution — same horn-loaded performance, less mounting depth. If your saddlebag lids can't accommodate a standard waveguide depth, this is the one.

Who This Is For

Riders running the RR2TM or RR3TM compression motor who need maximum high-frequency output from a 6×9" saddlebag position with limited mounting depth. If your lids have tight clearances — or you're building a clean, flush install where horn depth would compromise the fit — the RR3WG-69S solves that without compromising SPL or projection. If depth isn't a constraint in your build, the RR3WG-69F (flat) or RR3WG-69A (angled) waveguides offer additional flexibility.

What This Is Best For

  • Depth-limited saddlebag lid installs — The shallow profile is engineered for bag lids and custom pods where a standard horn won't clear. Riders who've previously ruled out horn-loaded tweeters due to clearance constraints can now get the output and projection of a full horn-loaded system without lid modifications or depth compromises. On the road: sits flush in a 6×9" saddlebag lid cutout without protruding into the luggage cavity.
  • Horn-loaded output in a compact format — A waveguide horn-loads the compression motor, directing radiated energy through a single controlled path. This delivers dramatically higher efficiency than a dome tweeter in the same position — more output per watt, lower distortion at volume, and a far more controlled dispersion pattern. On the road: the high-frequency output cuts through wind and road noise at highway speed where a dome tweeter in the same location would be inaudible.
  • Precision-matched throat geometry for RR2TM & RR3TM — The waveguide throat is engineered to match the exit diameter of both Cicada compression motors. Correct acoustic loading means smoother response, better power handling, and a wider usable frequency range. A mismatched throat creates reflections, peaks, and distortion that no EQ can fully correct. On the road: consistent, smooth high-frequency response whether you're running the ferrite RR2TM or the neodymium RR3TM — no peaking or harshness at higher volumes.
  • Wide, controlled dispersion for open-air riding — Shaped to project sound forward with authority while maintaining even off-axis coverage — critical on a motorcycle where there's no cabin to help distribute sound. Both rider and passenger receive consistent high-frequency coverage across a range of seating positions. On the road: highs reach both helmets evenly whether you're upright on the highway or two-up touring.
  • All-weather composite construction — Built from UV, moisture, heat and vibration-resistant composite materials rated for powersports environments. Saddlebag lids expose components to rain, direct sunlight, vibration, and temperature cycling that standard car audio parts aren't built for. On the road: performs identically after a downpour, a full summer of Australian sun, and extended outback touring.
  • Nanofram™ compatible — Accepts Cicada Audio's Nanofram™ horn cover for additional environmental protection without modifying the waveguide or compromising acoustic output. On the road: provides an extra weather seal for extreme-exposure installs — marine, open-cab UTV, or bikes that see heavy rain regularly.

Choosing the right 6×9" waveguide format

Cicada Audio makes three 6×9" waveguide formats for the RR2TM and RR3TM motors. The RR3WG-69S (this product) is the shallow-mount option — lowest profile, ideal for depth-constrained saddlebag lids. The RR3WG-69F is a flat-face design for standard-depth enclosures, and the RR3WG-69A is an angled version that redirects output toward the rider. Measure available mounting depth in your saddlebag lid before ordering — if clearance is tight, the RR3WG-69S is the safe choice.

The Bottom Line

The RR3WG-69S is the waveguide that makes horn-loaded tweeter performance possible in tight-clearance saddlebag builds. Paired with the RR2TM or RR3TM compression motor, it turns a depth-limited install into a focused, high-SPL horn system capable of cutting through highway wind noise. If saddlebag depth has been the reason you've been running dome tweeters, it doesn't have to be anymore. Available at MAA as Australia's authorised Cicada Audio dealer.

Fitment

Position Models Notes
Saddlebag Lids Harley-Davidson Touring 2014+ Shallow profile for depth-constrained lid positions; requires RR2TM or RR3TM motor (sold separately)
Universal / Custom UTV dashes, marine, custom enclosures Standard 6×9" footprint; any install with depth constraints and a 6×9" cutout

The RR3WG-69S uses a shaped acoustic wave path to convert the high-pressure, narrow-exit output of a compression driver into a controlled, wide-dispersion horn-loaded signal. Horn-loading the motor dramatically increases sensitivity compared to an open-baffle or dome arrangement — all radiated energy is directed forward through the horn path rather than dispersing in all directions. The result is significantly higher output per watt and a more predictable, steerable directional pattern.

On the road: the efficiency gain means the amplifier can run at lower output levels for equivalent perceived loudness — useful in thermally-managed systems or when you want to preserve dynamic headroom at high volumes.

Shallow-Mount Wave Path

The shallow profile is achieved through a curved, compact acoustic path that achieves the necessary horn length without the linear depth of a standard waveguide. Acoustic path length determines the effective cutoff frequency and loading characteristics — the RR3WG-69S reaches an appropriate path length within a fraction of the physical depth required by a conventional horn. For a tweeter motor operating above 3kHz, the slight reduction in low-end loading compared to a full-depth waveguide is acoustically irrelevant.

On the road: installs where a standard waveguide would protrude 40–60mm into the saddlebag cavity — the RR3WG-69S keeps the lid profile clean without acoustic compromise in the operating frequency range.

Throat Geometry & Motor Compatibility

The throat is precision-matched to the exit diameter of both the RR2TM (2" ferrite) and RR3TM (3" neodymium) compression motors. Throat-to-exit ratio determines how aggressively the waveguide loads the driver — too tight and the motor is over-damped; too loose and loading efficiency drops. The geometry is calculated to provide correct acoustic loading for both motor formats, giving consistent output and response regardless of which motor is in use.

On the road: swap between the RR2TM and RR3TM without re-tuning crossover points or EQ — the waveguide loading behaves correctly with both.

All-Weather Composite Construction

The RR3WG-69S is moulded from all-weather composite materials engineered to resist UV degradation, moisture ingress, heat deformation, and vibration fatigue. Saddlebag lids see a wide temperature and humidity range, direct sunlight, and constant road vibration — standard plastics crack, distort, and fade. The Cicada composite formulation is selected specifically for powersports durability.

On the road: no warping after a summer in the direct sun, no cracking after a winter, no resonance from vibration fatigue — the waveguide stays dimensionally stable and acoustically consistent over the long term.

Nanofram™ Compatibility

Fully compatible with Cicada Audio's Nanofram™ horn cover technology. Nanofram™ attaches over the waveguide mouth and provides an additional weather seal against direct water ingress and debris without meaningfully impeding the sound path. For most saddlebag installs the composite housing provides sufficient protection without it — Nanofram™ is the option for high-exposure environments.

On the road: add Nanofram™ for exposed installs — external fairings, open UTV cabs, or bikes that regularly see heavy rain — and remove it for maximum acoustic performance in drier conditions.
