Harley Audio Upgrade Cost Australia: Speakers, Amps, DSP and Installation
Quick answer: In Australia, a Harley audio upgrade can range from roughly $300 to $700 in parts for an entry speaker pair to more than $7,000 in parts for a complete 2024+ Skyline amplified, DSP-equipped, multi-position system. Professional installation, fabrication and tuning are additional. The meaningful comparison is not one headline total but the exact bike platform, number of speaker positions, amplification, signal integration and labour scope. The Cost Ladder: Where the Money Goes
A Harley audio build scales with how much of the system you change. The tiers below run from a simple speaker swap to a full custom build:
- Entry speaker upgrade: one compatible speaker pair on the existing factory amplification, no new rear location. Parts only; installation optional.
- Four-speaker system on existing power: front and rear speakers, requiring existing powered rear channels, confirmed lid fitment and impedance, and possibly grilles or mounting hardware.
- Amplified four-speaker system (1998-2023): speakers, amplifier, amp rack, power/ground kit, input and output harnesses, optional head-unit or DSP integration, plus installation and tuning.
- Amplified 2023.5+/2024+ Skyline system: speakers, amplifier, an A2B interface, the interface-specific harness, amp rack, power wiring, rear lids/harnessing where applicable, DSP and tuning.
- Custom high-output build: multiple amplifiers, active components, a subwoofer or dedicated mid-bass, a battery and charging review, fabrication, DSP and extended tuning.
Entry: A Speaker-Only Upgrade
If your factory head unit and amplification are working fine and you just want better sound from the fairing, a compatible direct-fit speaker swap is the cheapest meaningful upgrade. A pair of quality Cicada CX fairing speakers is around $565 in parts, depending on the exact model and impedance, plus your own fitting time (a confirmed model-specific direct-fit speaker will normally use the existing mounting position without cutting, although grilles, adaptors, mounting depth and the factory audio architecture still need checking). An entry complete amplified system for a 2014-2023 Harley Touring typically starts around $1,700 in parts, and the Cicada 14FLXCX-4X2 is a useful example at $1,695. It combines a pair of CX65.2 2Ω fairing speakers with an FLX500.4 four-channel amplifier, a model-specific amplifier rack and Cicada fairing grilles, fused power and ground wiring, and Harley-specific input and speaker harnesses. It is a front-stage system initially: only two of the amplifier's four channels are used, leaving the other two available if saddlebag or Tour-Pak speakers are added later.
Output clarity: the FLX500.4 is a 500W total four-channel amplifier; with only the front pair installed it delivers 125W x2 at 2Ω (about 250W RMS to the front stage), with two channels reserved for future rear expansion. When this kit is integrated with the factory Boom! Box, budget roughly $150 to $300 for a radio flash or verified correct radio configuration before installation; a bike already using a suitable aftermarket head unit may follow a different integration path, so confirm the source before adding the flash cost. Installation labour is additional where the kit is not fitted DIY.
Because it is one matched Cicada package (speakers, amplifier, harnesses, rack, grilles and wiring), you are seeing the cost of the required system hardware rather than an amplifier price that omits its rack, wiring and integration parts.

The progression runs CX (affordable matched system), CXX (stronger coaxial performance), CH/CHX (horn output), PRO/DSP (tuning control), and active (premium high-output). All figures are parts only, before installation labour and any radio flash. One planning note on the front-stage kits: the 14FLXCX-4X2 leaves two amplifier channels spare for later rear-speaker expansion, whereas the bridged 14FLXCXX-4X2 uses all four channels to create two bridged front outputs, so it does not retain spare rear channels.
2023.5+/2024+ Skyline Systems Are Priced Separately
Skyline OS bikes cost more to build to a comparable spec, because a completed amplified system also needs the selected A2B interface, the corresponding interface harness and newer-platform mounting hardware. The underlying Cicada kit price is not the complete Skyline signal-integration cost unless the package explicitly includes the interface. Some underlying manufacturer kits exclude the A2B interface so the buyer can choose NAV-TV or SeirenHD; the MAA complete packages listed above include the ZEN-H, so no additional A2B interface needs to be added to those advertised parts prices. Typical Cicada Wiring Kits by Amplifier Class
Adding an amplifier adds a power and ground kit to the bill, and the right kit depends on the amplifier's current, not a one-size default. Do not assume an existing accessory feed is suitable for an audio amplifier: budget for the model- and amplifier-specific fused power, ground, signal and speaker harnessing, sized correctly, fused near the battery, properly grounded and routed safely.

The HDPG2KD is a 2 AWG dual/triple-amp kit with distribution and fusing for multiple amplifiers, so it is not the normal single-amplifier power kit. Current MAA system kits pair the FLX700.4PRO with HDPG6K and the FLX1400.4/PRO with HDPG4K. Build in Stages, but Design It First
A system can be installed in financial stages, and for most budgets that is the sensible way to go. But the final architecture should be planned before Stage 1, not discovered along the way. Speaker impedance, amplifier channels, signal integration, DSP outputs, electrical demand and any future rear or subwoofer positions all affect the parts you select at the beginning. The Highest-Impact Dollar
In many otherwise compatible factory-powered systems, adding external amplification produces the largest single increase in clean headroom. But the best first upgrade depends on where the existing limitation actually is: the factory signal processing, the head-unit output, a factory amplifier, the speakers, incorrect impedance, poor mounting, charging voltage or tuning. Diagnose the limitation before spending, rather than assuming it is always the amplifier.

Is professional installation worth it?
For amp and DSP wiring, generally yes: poor grounding and incorrect gain structure are common causes of noise and underwhelming output. Speaker swaps can be straightforward for anyone comfortable with basic tools, but some involve fairing disassembly, factory amplifier wiring, bi-amplified speakers, lid modification, radio configuration, A2B integration or DSP tuning, so confirm the scope for your bike before deciding.
Do I need a DSP if I'm only running one amplifier?
Not automatically, but a single-amplifier system can still benefit significantly from DSP through crossover control, per-channel EQ, input correction, level matching, limiting and arrival-time adjustment. The decision depends on the source, amplifier and tuning goals, not simply the number of amplifiers.
Will upgrading my speakers damage the factory amplifier?
Not normally, when the final impedance, wiring and crossover arrangement are compatible. Do not assume 4Ω: Harley factory systems include multiple impedance and wiring architectures, including 2Ω systems and bi-amplified configurations. Confirm the exact year, radio, factory amplifier and audio package before selecting the replacement.
Do prices change much between Harley models?
The core amplifier or speaker may cost the same across models, but the completed system price can vary a lot. Skyline A2B integration, the factory audio package, model-specific racks, grilles, saddlebag lids and harnesses can add substantial cost, particularly on 2023.5+/2024+ bikes.
