300W RMS, 4Ω. The CHX65.2 for bridged and conservative builds.

The Cicada Audio CHX65.4 is a 6.5-inch 4Ω PRO coaxial horn speaker — 300W RMS, 92 dB sensitivity, aluminium horn tweeter with Nanofram™ all-weather horn cover, Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) mid-bass cone, Black Coat™ OFC 2.0-inch mid-bass voice coil, N35SH neodymium motor, tweeter attenuation (-3/-6 dB), and an external 12 dB crossover in a die-cast aluminium basket. Designed for 2014+ Harley-Davidson factory speaker locations. Sold in pairs.

The CHX65.4 shares every construction element with the CHX65.2 — the same CMC™ cone, the same Nanofram™ Horn Cover, the same 300W RMS power handling and 92 dB sensitivity. The 4Ω impedance presents a higher electrical load to the amplifier: lower current demand, reduced thermal stress, and compatibility with bridged configurations where a 4Ω minimum load is required. In the same 2014+ H-D factory mounting footprint, with the impedance suited to a bridged or conservative amp configuration.

Who This Speaker Is For

For riders replacing 2014+ H-D factory fairing speakers who are running bridged front channels, or who prefer the conservative 4Ω impedance for better system thermal performance. The CHX65.4 is the 4Ω variant of the CHX65.2 — same driver, same PRO construction, higher impedance. For dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifiers in stereo, the CHX65.2 extracts maximum power.

What This Is Best For

  • Bridged front channels on 2014+ Street Glide, Road Glide, or Touring builds — when front channels are bridged for maximum per-channel output, the CHX65.4 satisfies the 4Ω minimum load requirement while delivering the PRO horn coaxial's 92 dB output from the factory fairing position.
  • Uniform 4Ω PRO horn builds — pairing CHX65.4 front with CHX69.4 rear gives the full system consistent 4Ω impedance across every position, simplifying amplifier matching and reducing total system current demand.
  • Conservative builds where the entire system runs 4Ω speakers — for builds where reducing total current demand across all channels is a priority, 4Ω front speakers are the correct choice for the front stage.
  • Builds where the amplifier already delivers sufficient power at 4Ω — when the amp's 4Ω rated output exceeds 300W per channel, the CHX65.4 delivers its full rated power without requiring the 2Ω operating condition.

⚠ Crossover Setting — Read Before Installing

Set your high-pass crossover to 120 Hz minimum at 24 dB/oct slope before powering the CHX65.4. Horn coaxial drivers reach their mechanical travel limit (XMAX) at low frequencies — crossing over too low causes over-excursion. The damage is mechanical: tinsel lead connections tear from the voice coil/spider assembly as the cone overextends. This is not a power problem. It is a crossover problem.

2Ω vs 4Ω — Choosing the Right Version

The CHX65.4 is a 4Ω speaker. Choose the 4Ω version for bridged amplifier configurations, conservative system designs where amplifier thermal margin matters, or when the amplifier already delivers sufficient power at 4Ω. For maximum output from a dedicated 2Ω-rated amplifier in stereo, the CHX65.2 (2Ω) is the correct choice.

The Bottom Line

300W RMS, 92 dB, 6.5-inch PRO horn coaxial with CMC™ cone, Nanofram™ all-weather cover — the 4Ω version for bridged and conservative builds in 2014+ H-D factory fairing positions.

Ready to upgrade? Add to cart above. For the 2Ω variant, the CHX65.2 is the same speaker at 2Ω. For a 6×9 PRO horn rear stage at 4Ω, the CHX69.4 is the rear-stage complement.

What's Inside the CHX65.4

The CHX65.4 is identical in construction to the CHX65.2 — all construction notes below apply equally to both impedance variants.

The tweeter is an aluminium dome in a horn waveguide, protected by the Nanofram™ Horn Cover. The removable threaded horn ring allows replacement or modification. Horn loading delivers 92 dB sensitivity. The 4Ω impedance adds thermal headroom to both the driver and the amplifier in the fairing stage operating environment. On the road: horn-loaded treble from the 2014+ H-D factory position with the amplifier running cooler on the front channels.

The mid-bass cone is Carbon Matrix Composite™ (CMC™) — lightweight, rigid, and thermally stable under sustained output. The 2.0-inch / 51mm Black Coat™ OFC copper mid-bass voice coil handles sustained 300W RMS. The 1.4-inch / 35.56mm OFC copper tweeter voice coil completes the signal path. The motor is an N35SH neodymium with H-grade temperature rating. Tweeter attenuation of -3 or -6 dB allows balancing the horn tweeter's output against the mid-bass in the fairing position.

The external 12 dB crossover is custom-tooled, vented, and encased, with the tweeter attenuation resistor heat-sink encased separately.

Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage

At 92 dB (1W/1m) and 300W RMS, the CHX65.4 matches the output of the CHX65.2 — impedance choice changes amplifier compatibility, not speaker performance. Frequency response runs 70 Hz – 20 kHz (±4 dB). The 4Ω impedance means the amplifier draws less current on the front channels — in a build where all four channels share one amplifier, 4Ω front speakers give the system more thermal headroom overall.

Why 4Ω — Bridged Amps and Thermal Margin

A 4Ω speaker presents a higher electrical load than a 2Ω speaker — lower current demand and more thermal margin on both sides. For bridged configurations where two amp channels combine to drive a speaker pair, the 4Ω load satisfies the minimum impedance requirement on amplifiers including the FLX1000.4 and FLX1400.4. For stereo installs at the amp's rated 2Ω output, the CHX65.2 is the matching choice.
