8" PRO horn coaxials at 4Ω – built for bridged channels in custom builds, saddlebag lids and lower fairings
The Cicada Audio CHX8.4PRO is an 8-inch 4Ω coaxial with a horn-loaded aluminium tweeter, rated at 400W RMS (800W peak) with 92dB sensitivity. It uses a Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone, a 64mm (2.5") flat-wound coil, an N45SH neodymium motor and a vented diecast basket, with a Nanofram™ horn cover and external 12dB crossovers. Cicada designed it for 2014–2023 Harley-Davidson® 8" saddlebag lid kits and aftermarket lower fairings. Sold as a pair.
The CHX8.4PRO is the CHX8.2PRO wound for 4Ω, so it can run from bridged channels and draws less current in a full system. The original CHX8.4 remains available. The PRO steps up to an N45SH motor, a flat-wound TIL-former coil, Vortex Flow Venting™, a cloth surround and a 3-year warranty.
Who This Is For
Builders fitting 8" positions, whether custom enclosures, an 8" saddlebag lid kit on a 2014–2023 Touring bike, aftermarket lowers or a purpose-built Tour-Pak® lid, who plan to drive them from bridged amplifier channels. It also suits builds where every speaker runs at 4Ω to keep the amplifiers and charging system comfortable. If the 8" pair will run one speaker per channel on a 2Ω-stable amp, the CHX8.2PRO takes more from each channel.
What This Is Best For
- A bridged pair of 8" coaxials – the WX900.4 bridges to 450W × 2 into 4Ω, close to this driver's 400W RMS once the gain is set, and its sealed chassis suits a mount near the lowers or bags. The FLX700.4 bridges to 350W × 2 for a more conservative build.
- All-4Ω systems – the FLX2000.4 gives 331W × 4 into 4Ω, enough to run a pair of these alongside 4Ω PRO speakers elsewhere on the bike from one amp.
- Output from the lower fairing or lid – an 8" cone adds real output and fills in the stage from a low or rear position. Level-matched and delayed properly, it supports the front pair rather than competing with it.
- Reduced heat and current – a 4Ω load draws about half the current of 2Ω at the same voltage, which is a real saving across two 400W drivers.
Protect the Cone: 90Hz High-Pass
Set a high-pass of 90Hz minimum at 24dB per octave before running the CHX8.4PRO hard, lower only if the enclosure has been designed and measured for it. Over-excursion below the high-pass tears the tinsel leads. If your filter is 12dB per octave, set it higher.
Bridged, or Stereo at 2Ω?
A bridged output works each channel into half the speaker's impedance. A 4Ω speaker keeps a 2Ω-stable amp within its rating, and that's this driver. If the pair will instead run one speaker per channel in stereo on a 2Ω-stable amp, the CHX8.2PRO takes more power from each channel. Both are identical apart from the coil.

What's Inside the CHX8.4PRO
The N45SH neodymium motor and 64mm (2.5") flat-wound copper coil on a TIL composite former, sealed in Black Coat™ resin, carry 400W RMS. The SH magnet grade holds its strength when hot. On the road: consistent output from a lower fairing, even with engine heat rising around it.
The Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone stays rigid across its 8" span on a low-profile cloth surround. The Vortex Flow Venting™ diecast basket cools the coil as it moves. On the road: controlled upper bass that doesn't soften as the session goes on.
The aluminium tweeter is horn-loaded with a 44mm (1.75") coil behind the Nanofram™ cover, on a removable threaded flange. The Rain or Shine Pro™ build resists UV and moisture. On the road: rain and road spray are kept off the tweeter without muffling it.
Why 4Ω
Bridging joins two channels into one output that works each channel into half the load. With this 4Ω speaker, each channel sees 2Ω, within the rating of bridgeable motorcycle amps such as the WX900.4 and FLX700.4. In stereo, 4Ω halves the current compared with 2Ω, keeping a multi-speaker system cooler.
Sensitivity and Frequency Coverage
At 92dB (1W/1m), with a response of 75Hz to 20kHz (±3dB), the CHX8.4PRO is efficient and full-range above its 90Hz high-pass. The internal 12dB-per-octave crossover splits cone and horn at 4kHz, and –3dB or –6dB attenuation balances the horn against the rest of the system.
Mounting
Mounting depth is 83.9mm (3.3") and mounting diameter is 181mm (7.1"). Confirm both against your lid kit, lower or enclosure. Cicada lists it for the 2014–2023 H-D 8" saddlebag lid kit (14HDLID8LT) and aftermarket lower fairings.
