8" mid-bass at 4Ω – a bridge-ready woofer for Harley-Davidson® saddlebag lids, lower fairings and custom enclosures
The Cicada Audio CMW8.S4 is an 8-inch 4Ω mid-bass woofer rated at 250W RMS (500W peak), with 89dB sensitivity and 50Hz–7kHz response. It uses a Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone, 51mm (2.0") edge-wound aluminium voice coil on a TIL former, Y35 ferrite motor, NBR half-roll surround and a vented, powder-coated steel basket. Sold individually.
This is the CMW8.S2 wound for 4Ω. The higher impedance allows bridging and keeps current draw down in a full system. Next to Cicada's 500W CMB8.S4, it is the moderate-power 8", with a response that reaches much higher (7kHz against 3kHz). That makes it a flexible choice when the woofer has to blend with speakers above it.
Who This Is For
Builders driving a pair of 8" woofers from bridged amplifier channels, in a 14CHDLID8 lid kit on a 2014–2023 Touring bike, an aftermarket 8" lower or a custom enclosure. It also suits all-4Ω systems where every speaker shares the same load. For stereo channels at 2Ω, the CMW8.S2 takes more from each one.
What This Is Best For
- A bridged pair on a compact amp – the FLX500.4 bridges to 250W × 2 into 4Ω, an exact match for this driver's 250W RMS rating, from Cicada's smallest FLX chassis.
- Stereo at 4Ω alongside other speakers – the FLX1400.4 (225W × 4 into 4Ω) and WX900.4 (200W × 4 into 4Ω) both run it within its rating in a four-channel, all-4Ω system.
- Lower-fairing fill – a response reaching 7kHz lets an 8" in the lowers carry the upper bass and lower midrange. It bridges the gap between the fairing stage and the bags.
- Compact depth – 82mm (3.22") mounting depth suits lids and lowers where a deeper driver won't clear.
Is the 4Ω CMW8 Right for Your Amp?
Choose the CMW8.S4 when bridging. Each channel of a bridged pair sees half the speaker's impedance, so a 4Ω woofer keeps a 2Ω-stable amp within its rating. Choose it too when building all-4Ω. On a mono amp, two in parallel present 2Ω; check that the amp's 2Ω output per driver stays at or below 250W. For stereo channels on a 2Ω-stable amp, the CMW8.S2 is the better fit.

What's Inside the CMW8.S4
A Y35 ferrite motor drives a 51mm (2.0") edge-wound aluminium voice coil on a TIL composite former, sealed in Black Coat™ thermoset resin. The low-mass winding gives quick response. The ferrite motor holds a stable field through heat cycles. On the road: consistent mid-bass from cold start to the end of a hot run.
The Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone is stiff and light, on an NBR half-roll surround that controls travel and resists the elements. On the road: bass that stays tight at speed.
The powder-coated stamped steel basket has Vortex Flow Venting™ to cool the coil. The Rain or Shine™ construction resists moisture and UV. On the road: ready for spray in the lowers and sun on the lids.
Why 4Ω
At 4Ω the amplifier supplies half the current it would at 2Ω, which means less heat and less load on the charging system. 4Ω is also what makes bridging safe on 2Ω-stable amps, because the bridged pair works each channel into half the load.
Frequency Coverage and Tuning
The CMW8.S4 covers 50Hz to 7kHz (±3dB). Set the low-pass to suit the speakers above, and a high-pass (subsonic) just below the enclosure's useful range to protect the cone. No crossover is included.

Mounting depth is 82mm (3.22") and mounting diameter is 182mm (7.16"). The CMW8 suits the 14CHDLID8 lid kit and aftermarket 8" lower fairings. For a custom enclosure, build around these figures.
