An 8" 2Ω mid-bass woofer for saddlebag lids, lower fairings and custom Harley-Davidson® builds – 250W RMS, CMC™ cone
The Cicada Audio CMW8.S2 is an 8-inch 2Ω mid-bass woofer rated at 250W RMS (500W peak), with 89dB sensitivity and response from 50Hz to 7kHz. It uses a Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone, a 51mm (2.0") edge-wound aluminium coil on a TIL former sealed in Black Coat™ resin, a Y35 ferrite motor and an NBR half-roll surround. The powder-coated stamped steel basket has Vortex Flow Venting™. Sold individually.
An 8" woofer fits where a 10" won't: an 8" saddlebag lid, an aftermarket lower fairing, or a compact custom enclosure. Its response runs up to 7kHz, the widest in the CMW range, so it can reach well into the midrange before handing over. The CMW8.S4 is the 4Ω version. Cicada's CMB8.S4 is the high-power 8" at 500W RMS.
Who This Is For
Riders fitting 8" positions, such as Cicada's 14CHDLID8 lid kit on a 2014–2023 Touring bike, an 8" lower fairing or a custom box. They want solid mid-bass from a four-channel amp running at 2Ω. It suits systems where the woofer supports the fairing and lid speakers rather than trying to be a subwoofer. For bridged channels, choose the CMW8.S4. With space for a 10" and a wish for more depth, look at the CMW10.S2.
What This Is Best For
- A matched pair on a 2Ω four-channel amp – the WX900.4 gives 225W per channel at 2Ω, just under this driver's 250W rating. The FLX700.4 (175W at 2Ω) runs it comfortably within its limits.
- Tight spaces – at 82mm (3.22") mounting depth, it is noticeably shallower than the 10" CMW, which opens up lids and lowers where depth is the constraint.
- Reaching into the midrange – response to 7kHz lets it cover vocals' lower range and hand off smoothly. That's useful in lower-fairing installs, where it fills the gap between the fairing speakers and the bags.
- Built for exposed positions – the Rain or Shine™ build, NBR surround and powder-coated basket are chosen for lids and lowers, which take spray, sun and road grime.
2Ω CMW8: How to Wire It
Run one CMW8.S2 per channel in stereo on a 2Ω-stable amp. On a single mono channel, wire two in series for 4Ω, never in parallel (1Ω). A 2Ω driver should never be bridged, because each channel of a bridged pair sees half the speaker's impedance. If you're bridging, the CMW8.S4 is the right driver.
The Bottom Line
The CMW8.S2 adds 8" mid-bass where space is tight, and its wide response blends with the rest of the system. It is sized for a 2Ω four-channel amp. For a full system around 8" positions, talk to us about a custom build.

What's Inside the CMW8.S2
The Carbon Matrix Composite™ cone is light and stiff, suspended on an NBR half-roll surround that controls excursion and stands up to heat and moisture. On the road: controlled, punchy mid-bass from a compact driver.
The 51mm (2.0") voice coil uses edge-wound aluminium on a TIL composite former with Black Coat™ high-temperature resin. It is light for fast response and sealed against heat. A Y35 ferrite motor drives it. On the road: stable output as the lid or lower heats up.
The powder-coated stamped steel basket carries Vortex Flow Venting™ to cool the coil. The Rain or Shine™ build resists humidity, rain and UV. On the road: a driver made for the position, not adapted to it.
Why 2Ω
Most four-channel motorcycle amps make their best stereo power at 2Ω, and a 2Ω woofer lets them deliver it. Two in series make a clean 4Ω load for a mono amp. Bridging or paralleling below the amp's minimum load is the one thing to avoid.
Frequency Coverage and Tuning
Response runs 50Hz to 7kHz (±3dB). Use a low-pass to set where the woofer hands over to the speakers above, and a high-pass (subsonic) just below your enclosure's useful range to protect the cone. No crossover is included; set it at the amp or DSP.
Mounting
Mounting depth is 82mm (3.22") and mounting diameter is 182mm (7.16"). The CMW8 suits the 14CHDLID8 lid kit and aftermarket 8" lower fairings. For a custom enclosure, build around these figures.
